DESIGN STRATEGIES FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE: INNOVATING TRADITIONS WITHIN MUSEUMS

    No full text
As part of the relationship between Heritage and Design, we are interested in exploring modes so that the museum tradition can, through design practice, establish a virtuous dialogue with innovation. We, therefore, propose the application of the established practice of strategic design to cultural institutions, considering it as an appropriate process to build innovative museum systems. We assume that the museum has an important social function and should build empathic relationships with its stakeholders; we stress the importance of building a design driven system, led by co-curation actions, able to involve, proactively, all stakeholders, with their different skills and, finally, we suggest guidelines, a minimum mapping of the main existing communication artifacts and some practical examples of transmedia devices realized ad hoc for reaching different conceptual framework of innovative museum models. In conclusion it emerges the function of the designer as an activator of a continuous process of interpretation of phenomena, in the role of mediator, with the ability to translate reality and different languages and to achieve concrete artifacts, that use the most advanced technologies
