Extremism Video Detection In Social Media

    Get PDF
Social media has grown to become a fundamental part of our lives over the past two decades and with its growth, the misuse of the platform for extremist purposes has become common. The wide reach of social media has allowed extremist groups to take advantage of the platform to spread terrorist propaganda and fear. Therefore, the need for a robust extremist detector in social media is evident. As an attempt to combat this problem, we present techniques to detect various forms of extremism in videos crawled from Twitter, a social media to share short posts. We build upon existing deep neural networks used for action classification and create a model capable of recog- nizing certain common extremism types. Additionally, we also expand on logo/object detection models for the same purpose. We then use these models against a sample space of roughly 2 million unlabelled videos to test the accuracy of these models

Correlation between serum ferritin level and severity of dengue fever in a tertiary care center: an observational study

Background: Serum ferritin is an acute phase protein and elevated levels of ferritin have been associated with the pathogenesis of many inflammatory infectious viral diseases. Dengue is a mosquito-borne tropical infection that caused by the dengue virus. TNFα and interleukin 1α, another proinflammatory cytokine, transcriptionally induce the H-chain of ferritin. Therefore, serum ferritin can be used as a prognostic marker for dengue severity. Methods: This is a case control study conducted between July 2017 to December 2018.Results: On the 3rd day of fever, the median values of serum ferritin in dengue, fever without warning signs, with warning signs, and severe dengue were 513.5 ng/ml, 1002 ng/ml and 2352.4 ng/ml respectively. On the 7th day of fever, the median values were 474 ng/ml, 900 ng/ml, and 2949 ng/ml respectively. Serum ferritin 1247 ng/ml on day 3 has a sensitivity of 96.4% and specificity of 91% for prediction of severity. Area under the curve for serum ferritin on day 3 was 0.963 (95% confidence limit: 0.934-0.991). Serum ferritin 1050 ng/ml on day 7 has a sensitivity of 98.2 % and specificity of 93% for prediction of severity. Area under the curve for serum ferritin on day 7 was 0.977 (95% confidence limit: 0.957-0.998).Conclusions: Elevation of serum ferritin was significantly seen in those with severe dengue. Serum ferritin can be used as a prognostic marker for dengue severity. Day 3 serum ferritin can be used as a prognostic marker for dengue severity

Design of Resonant Converter Topologies in Electric Vehicles

The world climate and environment are facing serious threats due to the carbon emission caused by diesel-based vehicles. The increased use of fossil fuels in diesel based vehicles is one of the main reasons for global warming and climate change issues. A recent report suggests that transportation is responsible for contributing 24% of global carbon emissions. Another study by the European Union mentions that carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by the transport sector are approximately 27%, while 70% of emissions are directly emitted by vehicle transport. To address these concerns, electric vehicles (EVs) have received massive attention around the world due to their zero carbon emissions, low noise, light weight, improved performance and efficiency

Enhancing photovoltaic efficiency through evaporative cooling and a solar still

The efficiency of photovoltaic panels decreases with the increase in panel temperature while converting light into electricity. The issue of temperature rise and the associated decrease in efficiency has been widely analysed by active and passive cooling methods. In those processes, normally water is used as a cooling medium, and it results in water loss along with power loss due to circulating or compensating for the lost water. The current study aims to address both efficiency as well as water loss by combining an evaporative cooling technique with a solar still. A Photovoltaic panel with rear-side evaporative cooling is attempted by using a jute sack dipped in water at both ends. As a result of capillary action, the water from a solar still rises through the sack and cools the panel’s rear side. Solar still operation is ensured by an extended portion of glass. During desalination, the evaporated vapour from the solar still condenses on the back cover of the glass surface and is collected in a collection trough. As a result, the output power increased by 5.6 % and the electrical efficiency increased by 14.51 % and the surface temperature are reduced by 8°C. After seven hours of sunshine, the proposed PV panels and solar still system produced approximately 550 ml of water
