Rejection Sensitivity, Perceived Power, and HIV Risk in the Relationships of Low-Income Urban Women
The psychological processes associated with HIV infection in long-term relationships differ from those operative in casual sexual encounters, and relatively little research has considered the aspects of personality applicable in the ongoing heterosexual relationships in which women are at greatest risk. Sensitivity to rejection has been linked with efforts to prevent rejection at a cost to the self and, therefore, may be relevant to the health risks that many women incur in relationships. We examined the association of rejection sensitivity with women\u27s sexual risk behavior in a sample of women at heightened risk for HIV exposure. Women in long-term heterosexual relationships (N = 159) were recruited for study participation in the hospital emergency room serving a low-income neighborhood in New York City, in 2001-2003. Rejection sensitivity and known HIV risk factors were assessed using verbally administered questionnaires. Rejection sensitivity was associated with lower perceived relationship power and, in turn, more frequent unprotected sex with a partner perceived to be at risk for HIV. These results held when controlling for other HIV risk factors including partner violence, economic dependence, and substance use. Understanding the association of rejection concerns with lower perceived personal power in relationships may be important for HIV prevention
Magellanic Cloud stars with TiO bands in emission: Binary post-RGB/AGB stars or young stellar objects?
14 stars from a sample of Magellanic Cloud objects selected to have a mid-infrared flux excess have been found to also show TiO bands in emission. The mid-infrared dust emission and the TiO band emission indicate that these stars have large amounts of ho
In vitro micropropogation Of Sphaeranthus amaranthoides Burm.F
Sphaeranthus amaranthoides commonly known as garden Lavender / Kesavardini is used to cure eczema, skin diseases, worm infestation, pile, aphrodisiac etc, from Ancient Era. In present investigation the auxillary buds and shoot tips were used as explants for invitro micropropogation. The initiation and best multiple shoots was developed at 4mg/L of BAP with a highest frequency of 70% and good root proliferation was observed at 2.0mg/L of IBA
INFLUENCE OF PHARMACEUTICAL CARE ACTIVITIES ON KNOWLEDGE ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE (KAP) AMONG DIABETIC PATIENTS IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL
Objective: To assess the influence of pharmaceutical care activities on Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) among type 2 diabetic patients.
Methods: A total of about 301 patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus were recruited from a tertiary care hospital. Patients were educated about their disease condition, lifestyle modifications and diet regimen to be followed and were given instructions for improving medication adherence. In the initial session, no pharmaceutical care was given, in the second session patient counseling was given verbally and in the last session patient counseling was given both verbally and non-verbally by means of pamphlet distribution. KAP questionnaire and glycemic levels (glycated hemoglobin, fasting blood sugar and post-prandial blood sugar) of participants were obtained at baseline and at follow up.
Results: The baseline values of FBS in patients before intervention was found to be 176.5±74.46 mg/dL and it was reduced to 140.7±43.9 mg/dL after 3 mo. Henceforth, there was also an improvement in the PPBS values which was found to be 254±77.3 mg/dL at the baseline and was 212.9±54.2 mg/dL after intervention. The baseline values of HbA1c is 8.144±1.727% and after intervention, value reduced to about 7.173±2.768%. After the intervention, it was found to be that 30%, 16% and 12% reduction in FBS, PPBS and HbA1c values and the P-value (<0.0001) found to be statistically significant. KAP scores also found to be improved after the intervention and statistically significant. The results clearly indicate that through proper guidance and educating the patients by the pharmacist is beneficial in managing the glycemic levels and reduce further complications.
Conclusion: The study concluded that the pharmaceutical care by the pharmacist is highly essentially and useful for the patients to manage the glycemic index and prevent further diabetic complications
Analisis Efektivitas dan Kontribusi Penagihan Pajak secara Aktif terhadap Pencairan Tunggakan Pajak (Studi Kasus pada Kantor Pelayanan Pajak Pratama Manado)
Effective tax collection is an appropriate means to achieve the maximum tax revenue target. The goals of study is to determining the effectiveness and contribution of active tax billing actions which includes the warning leter, forced letter, and seizure letter to disbursement of tax arrears in Tax Office Pratama North Manado during 2013-2014. The type of research used in this study is a descriptive study with approach case study. Data collected through interviews and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the effectiveness of tax billing rate is still not effective and the contribution of active tax billing actions to disbursement of tax arrears is still lacking. The factors is a lack of public awareness, taxpayer compliance in paying his tax debt and less optimal active tax collection process
PHYTOCHEMICALS AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF CLERODENDRUM PANICULATUM (L.) LEAF AND FLOWER EXTRACTS
Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the phytochemicals present in the flower and leaf extracts of Clerodendrum paniculatum L., collected from Nelji village of Kodagu district .
Methods: The healthy leaves and flowers of C. paniculatum were collected and the plant extracts were prepared using ethanol, hexane and distilled water separately. Phytochemical analysis was conducted using standard procedurs for the flower and leaf extracts of C. paniculatum. The antioxidant activity in leaf and flower extracts was determined by three assays, estimation of total phenolic content, reducing power assay and radical scavenging activity (DPPH) using standard procedures.
Results: Phytochemical screening conducted for the flower and leaf extracts of C. paniculatum showed the presence of three phytochemicals, namely saponins, alkaloids and terpenoids. Terpenoids were commonly present in all the extracts of flower and leaf that is in both polar (aqueous and ethanol) solvent and in non-polar (hexane) solvents. The extracts tested for the antioxidant activity showed the presence of total phenolics in ethanol, aqueous and hexane extracts. The aqueous extract showed high redox potential followed by ethanol and hexane extracts. The aqueous leaf extract showed high radical scavenging activity when compared to the flower extracts of C. paniculatum.
Conclusion: The present study showes C. paniculatum to be an important medicinal plant, since the flower and leaves showed good antioxidant activity. Thus it may used in the treatment of diseases and may also used in the preparation of natural or herbal drugs due to the presence of antioxidants
Cosmic rays and random magnetic traps
The spatial distribution of cosmic ray (CR) particles in the interstellar
medium (ISM) is of major importance in radio astronomy, where its knowledge is
essential for the interpretation of observations, and in theoretical
astrophysics, where CR contribute to the structure and dynamics of the ISM.
Local inhomogeneities in interstellar magnetic field strength and structure can
affect the local diffusivity and ensemble dynamics of the cosmic ray particles.
Magnetic traps (regions between magnetic mirrors located on the same magnetic
line) can lead to especially strong and persistent features in the CR spatial
distribution. Using test particle simulations, we study the spatial
distribution of an ensemble of CR particles (both protons and electrons) in
various magnetic field configurations, from an idealized axisymmetric trap to
those that emerge in intermittent (dynamo-generated) random magnetic fields. We
demonstrate that both the inhomogeneity in the CR sources and the energy losses
by the CR particles can lead to persistent local inhomogeneities in the CR
distribution and that the protons and electrons have different spatial
distributions. Our results can have profound implications for the
interpretation of the synchrotron emission from astronomical objects, and in
particular its random fluctuations.Comment: 19 pages, 18 figure
