Identifying Computer-Translated Paragraphs using Coherence Features
We have developed a method for extracting the coherence features from a
paragraph by matching similar words in its sentences. We conducted an
experiment with a parallel German corpus containing 2000 human-created and 2000
machine-translated paragraphs. The result showed that our method achieved the
best performance (accuracy = 72.3%, equal error rate = 29.8%) when it is
compared with previous methods on various computer-generated text including
translation and paper generation (best accuracy = 67.9%, equal error rate =
32.0%). Experiments on Dutch, another rich resource language, and a low
resource one (Japanese) attained similar performances. It demonstrated the
efficiency of the coherence features at distinguishing computer-translated from

A Simple Linear Time Algorithm for Computing a 1-Median on Cactus Graphs
We address the problem of finding a 1-median on a cactus graph. The problem has already been solved in linear time by the algorithms of Burkard and Krarup (1998), and Lan and Wang (2000). These algorithms are complicated and need efforts. Hence, we develop in this paper a simpler algorithm. First, we construct a condition for a cycle that contains a 1-median or for a vertex that is indeed a 1-median of the cactus. Based on this condition, we localize the search for deriving a 1-median on the underlying cactus. Complexity analysis shows that the approach runs in linear time
Improving quality of health care for gender-based violence victims at health facilities in Viet Nam
This report presents the results of the May 2009 baseline (pre-intervention) assessment among health care providers (HCPs), and the July 2010 pre- and post-Training of Trainers assessments among HCPs, in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and Da Nang, regarding the issue of quality of care for victims of gender-based violence (GBV) at health facilities in Vietnam. The views of HCPs detailed in this report represent an important foundation for project development and implementation in the study locations. The pre- and post-Training of Trainers questionnaire aimed to assess the HCPs on the topics covered in the training course. The results showed that basic knowledge of hospital staff about GBV improved significantly as an immediate result of training. After the training all the participants were aware of the GBV Laws and related regulations. Many HCPs in Vietnam seek information independently to help them better serve patients who are victims of GBV. Results of this report encourage continuing support of additional training, hospital protocols, and a network of referral agencies
