Effect of Autoclave Process Parameters on Mechanical Behaviors of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composites Fabricated via Additive Manufacturing

    Get PDF
Additively manufactured carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) are vastly studied for their remarkable mechanical properties compared to most other 3D printed materials. Different methods were employed to further increase mechanical performance of CFRP 3D printed parts. The objective of the study is to investigate the effect of autoclave postprocessing on the interlaminar shear behavior between 3D printed CFRP layers. 3D printed CFRP samples were processed with nine combinations of temperature and vacuum in an autoclave. Short beam shear (SBS) tests were performed to characterize the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of the samples after autoclave processing. Digital image correlation (DIC) was utilized to quantify the strain and failure mode of the samples during SBS tests. From SBS mechanical tests, the curing temperature and vacuum of 170 C and -90 kPa produced samples with the highest ILSS, 39 MPa, a 46% improvement compared to uncured samples. The observed failure modes were fracture and delamination. Little work in additive manufacturing has applied autoclave as a post-process procedure. This study aims to explore this technique and establish its viability in improving mechanical performance of 3D printed fiber-reinforced parts

    Get PDF
The purpose of the study is to provide information about the current physical condition of 19-year-old male students of the Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCMC) dormitory. The research used the methods of synthesizing sport-related documents, interviewing experts, applying pedagogical tests, and statistical analysis to determine appropriate physical fitness assessment tests. Afterward, the figures for the physical condition of male students at the VNUHCMC dormitory were compared with that of the average Vietnamese people, of Hanoi National University (HNU), University of Danang (UD), Can Tho University (CTU), and Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) students at the same age and gender, and with the standard shown in Decision 53/2008/BGDDT of the Ministry of Education and Training. The results show that the “good” group accounts for 28.75%, the “acceptable” group for 23.19% and the “failed” group for 48.06%. It is notable that the agility, leg muscular strength, endurance, and motor skills of 19-year-old male students at the VNUHCMC dormitory are greater than the average physical fitness of Vietnamese people, as well as students of the same age and gender at HNU, UD, and CTU. Their endurance is also higher than that of male HCMC pupils of the same age, but their leg muscular strength and motor abilities are almost comparable.  Article visualizations

AMRViz enables seamless genomics analysis and visualization of antimicrobial resistance

    Get PDF
We have developed AMRViz, a toolkit for analyzing, visualizing, and managing bacterial genomics samples. The toolkit is bundled with the current best practice analysis pipeline allowing researchers to perform comprehensive analysis of a collection of samples directly from raw sequencing data with a single command line. The analysis results in a report showing the genome structure, genome annotations, antibiotic resistance and virulence profile for each sample. The pan-genome of all samples of the collection is analyzed to identify core- and accessory-genes. Phylogenies of the whole genome as well as all gene clusters are also generated. The toolkit provides a web-based visualization dashboard allowing researchers to interactively examine various aspects of the analysis results. Availability: AMRViz is implemented in Python and NodeJS, and is publicly available under open source MIT license at https://github.com/amromics/amrviz

Efficient inference of large prokaryotic pangenomes with PanTA

    Get PDF
Pangenome inference is an indispensable step in bacterial genomics, yet its scalability poses a challenge due to the rapid growth of genomic collections. This paper presents PanTA, a software package designed for constructing pangenomes of large bacterial datasets, showing unprecedented efficiency levels multiple times higher than existing tools. PanTA introduces a novel mechanism to construct the pangenome progressively without rebuilding the accumulated collection from scratch. The progressive mode is shown to consume orders of magnitude less computational resources than existing solutions in managing growing datasets. The software is open source and is publicly available at https://github.com/amromics/panta and at 10.6084/m9.figshare.23724705

Astaxanthin Production by Newly Isolated Rhodosporidium toruloides: Optimization of Medium Compositions by Response Surface Methodology

    Get PDF
Astaxanthin is a valuable carotenoid pigment, which has been extensively used in various industries. In this study, Rhodosporidium toruloides was first used as a new microbial source for producing natural astaxanthin. Various carbon, nitrogen, and mineral sources were evaluated for their effect on astaxanthin production of R. toruloides. Response surface methodology (RSM) was then used to optimize the medium compositions for maximizing the astaxanthin concentration. Among the examined nutrients, glucose, peptone, and KH2PO4 were the most efficient carbon, nitrogen, and mineral source for astaxanthin production, respectively. Through RSM, a maximum astaxanthin concentration of 927.11 µg l-1 was obtained by using Hansen broth containing 83.74 g l-1 glucose, 20.01 g l-1 peptone, and 6.19 g l-1 KH2PO4. This study suggested that R. toruloides is a promising candidate to produce natural astaxanthin

AMRomics: a scalable workflow to analyze large microbial genome collections

    Get PDF
Whole genome analysis for microbial genomics is critical to studying and monitoring antimicrobial resistance strains. The exponential growth of microbial sequencing data necessitates a fast and scalable computational pipeline to generate the desired outputs in a timely and cost-effective manner. Recent methods have been implemented to integrate individual genomes into large collections of specific bacterial populations and are widely employed for systematic genomic surveillance. However, they do not scale well when the population expands and turnaround time remains the main issue for this type of analysis. Here, we introduce AMRomics, an optimized microbial genomics pipeline that can work efficiently with big datasets. We use different bacterial data collections to compare AMRomics against competitive tools and show that our pipeline can generate similar results of interest but with better performance.
