Possible Way to Synthesize Superheavy Element Z=117
Within the framework of the dinuclear system model, the production of
superheavy element Z=117 in possible projectile-target combinations is analyzed
systematically. The calculated results show that the production cross sections
are strongly dependent on the reaction systems. Optimal combinations,
corresponding excitation energies and evaporation channels are proposed in this
letter, such as the isotopes ^{248,249}Bk in ^{48}Ca induced reactions in 3n
evaporation channels and the reactions ^{45}Sc+^{246,248}Cm in 3n and 4n
channels, and the system ^{51}V+^{244}Pu in 3n channel.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, 1 tabl
Erraticity of Rapidity Gaps
The use of rapidity gaps is proposed as a measure of the spatial pattern of
an event. When the event multiplicity is low, the gaps between neighboring
particles carry far more information about an event than multiplicity spikes,
which may occur very rarely. Two moments of the gap distrubiton are suggested
for characterizing an event. The fluctuations of those moments from event to
event are then quantified by an entropy-like measure, which serves to describe
erraticity. We use ECOMB to simulate the exclusive rapidity distribution of
each event, from which the erraticity measures are calculated. The dependences
of those measures on the order of of the moments provide single-parameter
characterizations of erraticity.Comment: 10 pages LaTeX + 5 figures p
Exact Analysis of Scaling and Dominant Attractors Beyond the Exponential Potential
By considering the potential parameter as a function of another
potential parameter [47], We successfully extend the analysis of
two-dimensional autonomous dynamical system of quintessence scalar field model
to the analysis of three-dimension, which makes us be able to research the
critical points of a large number of potentials beyond the exponential
potential exactly. We find that there are ten critical points in all, three
points } are general points which are possessed by all
quintessence models regardless of the form of potentials and the rest points
are closely connected to the concrete potentials. It is quite surprising that,
apart from the exponential potential, there are a large number of potentials
which can give the scaling solution when the function
equals zero for one or some values of
and if the parameter also satisfies the condition
Eq.(16) or Eq.(17) at the same time. We give the differential equations to
derive these potentials from . We also find that, if some
conditions are satisfied, the de-Sitter-like dominant point and the
scaling solution point (or ) can be stable simultaneously but
and can not be stable simultaneity. Although we survey scaling
solutions beyond the exponential potential for ordinary quintessence models in
standard general relativity, this method can be applied to other extensively
scaling solution models studied in literature[46] including coupled
quintessence, (coupled-)phantom scalar field, k-essence and even beyond the
general relativity case . we also discuss the disadvantage
of our approach.Comment: 16 pages,no figure, this new revision has taken the suggestions from

Void Analysis of Hadronic Density Fluctuations at Phase Transition
The event-to-event fluctuations of hadron multiplicities are studied for a
quark system undergoing second-order phase transition to hadrons. Emphasis is
placed on the search for an observable signature that is realistic for
heavy-ion collisions. It is suggested that in the 2-dimensional y-phi space the
produced particles selected in a very narrow p_T window may exhibit clustering
patterns even when integrated over the entire emission time. Using the Ising
model to simulate the critical phenomenon and taking into account a p_T
distribution that depends on the emission time, we study in the framework of
the void analysis proposed earlier and find scaling behavior. The scaling
exponents turn out to be larger than the ones found before for pure
configurations without mixing. The signature is robust in that it is
insensitive to the precise scheme of simulating time evolution. Thus it should
reveal whether or not the dense matter created in heavy-ion collisions is a
quark-gluon plasma before hadronization.Comment: 11 pages in LaTeX + 6 figures in p
-scaling and Information Entropy in Ultra-Relativistic Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions
The -scaling method has been applied to ultra-relativistic p+p, C+C
and Pb+Pb collision data simulated using a high energy Monte Carlo package,
LUCIAE 3.0. The -scaling is found to be valid for some physical
variables, such as charged particle multiplicity, strange particle multiplicity
and number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions from these simulated
nucleus-nucleus collisions over an extended energy ranging from = 20
to 200 A GeV. In addition we derived information entropy from the multiplicity
distribution as a function of beam energy for these collisions.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, 1 table; to appear in the July Issue of Chin.

Cooperation of decay-accelerating factor and membrane cofactor protein in regulating survival of human cervical cancer cells
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Decay-accelerating factor (DAF) and membrane cofactor protein (MCP) are the key molecules involved in cell protection against autologus complement, which restricts the action of complement at critical stages of the cascade reaction. The cooperative effect of DAF and MCP on the survival of human cervical cancer cell (ME180) has not been demonstrated.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>In this study we applied, for the first time, short hairpin RNA (shRNA) to knock down the expression of the DAF and MCP with the aim of exploiting complement more effectively for tumor cell damage. Meanwhile, we investigated the cooperative effects of DAF and MCP on the viability and migration, moreover the proliferation of ME180 cell.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The results showed that shRNA inhibition of DAF and MCP expression enhanced complement-dependent cytolysis (CDC) up to 39% for MCP and up to 36% for DAF, and the combined inhibition of both regulators yielded further additive effects in ME180 cells. Thus, the activities of DAF and MCP, when present together, are greater than the sum of the two protein individually.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>These data indicated that combined DAF and MCP shRNA described in this study may offer an additional alternative to improve the efficacy of antibody-and complement-based cancer immunotherapy.</p
Synaptic Connections of the Neurokinin 1 Receptor-Like Immunoreactive Neurons in the Rat Medullary Dorsal Horn
The synaptic connections between neurokinin 1 (NK1) receptor-like immunoreactive (LI) neurons and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-, glycine (Gly)-, serotonin (5-HT)- or dopamine-β-hydroxylase (DBH, a specific marker for norepinephrinergic neuronal structures)-LI axon terminals in the rat medullary dorsal horn (MDH) were examined under electron microscope by using a pre-embedding immunohistochemical double-staining technique. NK1 receptor-LI neurons were observed principally in laminae I and III, only a few of them were found in lamina II of the MDH. GABA-, Gly-, 5-HT-, or DBH-LI axon terminals were densely encountered in laminae I and II, and sparsely in lamina III of the MDH. Some of these GABA-, Gly-, 5-HT-, or DBH-LI axon terminals were observed to make principally symmetric synapses with NK1 receptor-LI neuronal cell bodies and dendritic processes in laminae I, II and III of the MDH. The present results suggest that neurons expressing NK1 receptor within the MDH might be modulated by GABAergic and glycinergic inhibitory intrinsic neurons located in the MDH and 5-HT- or norepinephrine (NE)-containing descending fibers originated from structures in the brainstem
