Constraints on the Interaction between Dark Matter and Baryons from Cooling Flow Clusters

    Get PDF
Other nongravitational heating processes are needed to resolve the disagreement between the absence of cool gas components in the centers of galaxy clusters revealed recently by Chandra and XMM observations and the expectations of conventional radiative cooling models. Here we propose that the interaction between dark matter particles and ordinary baryonic matter may act as an alternative for the reheating of intracluster medium (ICM) in the inner regions of clusters, in which kinetic energy of dark matter is transported to ICM to balance the radiative cooling. Using the Chandra and XMM data of typical clusters, we set a useful constraint on the dark matter-baryon cross-section: σxp/mx∼1×10−25\sigma_{xp}/m_x \sim 1 \times 10^{-25} cm2^2GeV−1^{-1}, where mxm_x is the mass of dark matter particles

Steady Vibration of Flexible Circular Plate on an Elastic Half Space

    Get PDF
The steady vibration of a flexible circular plate with finite rigidity resting on an elastic half space and subjected to harmonic vertical loads on the surface of the plate is studied in the present paper. The contact between the plate and the half space is assumed to be frictionless. Three types of load are considered: 1. the load uniformly distributed over the entire surface of the plate, 2. the load uniformly distributed over a ring zone of the surface of the plate, 3. the concentrated load applied at the center of the plate. By expanding the distribution of the contact stress between the plate and the half space into a series of the Jacobi polynomials, the problem is reduced to solve a system of simultaneous algebraic equations. The numerical results show that: when the rigidity of the plate is rat her large, the plate behaves like a rigid one, on the other hand, when the flexibility of the plate is rather large, the dynamic behavior of the plate is dependent of the type of the applied load

Large-time Behavior of Solutions to the Inflow Problem of Full Compressible Navier-Stokes Equations

Large-time behavior of solutions to the inflow problem of full compressible Navier-Stokes equations is investigated on the half line R+=(0,+∞)R^+ =(0,+\infty). The wave structure which contains four waves: the transonic(or degenerate) boundary layer solution, 1-rarefaction wave, viscous 2-contact wave and 3-rarefaction wave to the inflow problem is described and the asymptotic stability of the superposition of the above four wave patterns to the inflow problem of full compressible Navier-Stokes equations is proven under some smallness conditions. The proof is given by the elementary energy analysis based on the underlying wave structure. The main points in the proof are the degeneracies of the transonic boundary layer solution and the wave interactions in the superposition wave.Comment: 27 page

Universality class of the depinning transition in the two-dimensional Ising model with quenched disorder

With Monte Carlo methods, we investigate the universality class of the depinning transition in the two-dimensional Ising model with quenched random fields. Based on the short-time dynamic approach, we accurately determine the depinning transition field and both static and dynamic critical exponents. The critical exponents vary significantly with the form and strength of the random fields, but exhibit independence on the updating schemes of the Monte Carlo algorithm. From the roughness exponents ζ,ζloc\zeta, \zeta_{loc} and ζs\zeta_s, one may judge that the depinning transition of the random-field Ising model belongs to the new dynamic universality class with ζ≠ζloc≠ζs\zeta \neq \zeta_{loc}\neq \zeta_s and ζloc≠1\zeta_{loc} \neq 1. The crossover from the second-order phase transition to the first-order one is observed for the uniform distribution of the random fields, but it is not present for the Gaussian distribution.Comment: 16 pages, 16 figures, 3 table

Foreground object segmentation in RGB-D data implemented on GPU

This paper presents a GPU implementation of two foreground object segmentation algorithms: Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and Pixel Based Adaptive Segmenter (PBAS) modified for RGB-D data support. The simultaneous use of colour (RGB) and depth (D) data allows to improve segmentation accuracy, especially in case of colour camouflage, illumination changes and occurrence of shadows. Three GPUs were used to accelerate calculations: embedded NVIDIA Jetson TX2 (Maxwell architecture), mobile NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050m (Pascal architecture) and efficient NVIDIA RTX 2070 (Turing architecture). Segmentation accuracy comparable to previously published works was obtained. Moreover, the use of a GPU platform allowed to get real-time image processing. In addition, the system has been adapted to work with two RGB-D sensors: RealSense D415 and D435 from Intel.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, submitted to KKA 2020 conferenc

Radiative and Collisional Energy Loss, and Photon-Tagged Jets at RHIC

The suppression of single jets at high transverse momenta in a quark-gluon plasma is studied at RHIC energies, and the additional information provided by a photon tag is included. The energy loss of hard jets traversing through the medium is evaluated in the AMY formalism, by consistently taking into account the contributions from radiative events and from elastic collisions at leading order in the coupling. The strongly-interacting medium in these collisions is modelled with (3+1)-dimensional ideal relativistic hydrodynamics. Putting these ingredients together with a complete set of photon-production processes, we present a calculation of the nuclear modification of single jets and photon-tagged jets at RHIC.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, contributed to the 3rd International Conference on Hard and Electro-Magnetic Probes of High-Energy Nuclear Collisions (Hard Probes 2008), typos corrected, published versio
