Impedance Analysis of Bunch Length Measurements at the ATF Damping Ring

    Get PDF
We present energy spread and bunch length measurements at the Accelerator Test Facility (ATF) at KEK, as functions of current, for different ring rf voltages, and with the beam both on and off the coupling resonance. We fit the on-coupling bunch shapes to those of an impedance model consisting of a resistor and an inductor connected in series. We find that the fits are reasonably good, but that the resulting impedance is unexpectedly large.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, presented at 10th International Symposium on Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics (ISEM2001

Dynamic aperture studies for the LHC version 4

    Get PDF
The limitations of the dynamic aperture due to field errors of the super-conducting magnets is a notorious problem for the LHC. Given the large amount of independent studies performed by a sizeable research team it becomes necessary to define a common tracking strategy. The emphasis is placed on an elaborate on - and off - line processing of the tracking data making use of all tools presently available. To manage the very time-comsuming investigations our approach is two-fold: firstly we are maximising the computing power running optimised code on state of the art equipment which is continuously upgraded and secondly we speed up the studies by using reliable and automated early indicators for long-term losses. The procedure is exemplified with a series of tracking runs for the LHC version 4 at injection

Effect of MgO content in sintered ore on viscosity of blast furnace slag bearing high Al2O3

    Get PDF
The effect of MgO content on the viscosity of blast furnace slag bearing high Al2O3 was studied under laboratory conditions. The viscosity of slag was determined by rotation method. The research results indicate that when the Al2O3 content in blast furnace slag is 17 % -18 %, the MgO content in blast furnace slag should be controlled at 10 %. When the Al2O3 content is 19 %, the MgO content should be controlled at 11 %, and the binary basicity of the slag should be controlled at around 1,10. This type of blast furnace slag has a lower melting point and better fluidity. The purpose of reducing the MgO content in the slag can be achieved by reducing the MgO content in sintered ore, that is, the MgO content in sintered ore should be controlled at 2,0 %-2,5 %

Coherent laser control of the current through molecular junctions

The electron tunneling through a molecular junction modeled by a single site weakly coupled to two leads is studied in the presence of a time-dependent external field using a master equation approach. In the case of small bias voltages and high carrier frequencies of the external field, we observe the phenomenon of coherent destruction of tunneling, i.e. the current through the molecular junction vanishes completely for certain parameters of the external field. In previous studies the tunneling within isolated and open multi-site systems was suppressed; it is shown here that the tunneling between a single site and electronic reservoirs, i.e. the leads, can be suppressed as well. For larger bias voltages the current does not vanish any more since further tunneling channels participate in the electron conduction and we also observe photon-assisted tunneling which leads to steps in the current-voltage characteristics. The described phenomena are demonstrated not only for monochromatic fields but also for laser pulses and therefore could be used for ultrafast optical switching of the current through molecular junctions.Comment: 6 pages and 4 figure

Phase diagram of a Bose-Fermi mixture in a one-dimensional optical lattice in terms of fidelity and entanglement

We study the ground-state phase diagram of a Bose-Fermi mixture loaded in a one-dimensional optical lattice by computing the ground-state fidelity and quantum entanglement. We find that the fidelity is able to signal quantum phase transitions between the Luttinger liquid phase, the density-wave phase, and the phase separation state of the system; and the concurrence can be used to signal the transition between the density-wave phase and the Ising phase.Comment: 4 pages 3 figure
