    Correlation Cube Attack Revisited: Improved Cube Search and Superpoly Recovery Techniques

    In this paper, we improve the cube attack by exploiting low-degree factors of the superpoly w.r.t. certain special index set of cube (ISoC). This can be viewed as a special case of the correlation cube attack proposed at Eurocrypt 2018, but under our framework more beneficial equations on the key variables can be obtained in the key-recovery phase. To mount our attack, one has two challenging problems: (1) effectively recover algebraic normal form of the superpoly and extract out its low-degree factors; and (2) efficiently search a large quantity of good ISoCs. We bring in new techniques to solve both of them. First, we propose the variable substitution technique for middle rounds of a cipher, in which polynomials on the key variables in the algebraic expressions of internal states are substituted by new variables. This will improve computational complexity of the superpoly recovery and promise more compact superpolys that can be easily decomposed with respect to the new variables. Second, we propose the vector numeric mapping technique, which seeks out a tradeoff between efficiency of the numeric mapping technique (Crypto 2019) and accuracy of the monomial prediction technique (Asiacrypt 2020) in degree evaluation of superpolys. Combining with this technique, a fast pruning method is given and modeled by MILP to filter good ISoCs of which the algebraic degree satisfies some fixed threshold. Thanks to automated MILP solvers, it becomes practical to comprehensively search for good cubes across the entire search space. To illustrate the power of our techniques, we apply all of them to Trivium stream cipher. As a result, we have recovered the superpolys of three cubes given by Kesarwani et al. in 2020, only to find they do not have zero-sum property up to 842 rounds as claimed in their paper. To our knowledge, the previous best practical key recovery attack was on 820-round Trivium with complexity 253.172^{53.17}. We put forward 820-, 825- and 830-round practical key-recovery attacks, in which there are 280Ɨ87.8%\mathbf{2^{80}\times 87.8\%}, 280Ɨ83%\mathbf{2^{80}\times 83\%} and 280Ɨ65.7%\mathbf{2^{80}\times 65.7\%} keys that could be practically recovered, respectively, if we consider 260\mathbf{2^{60}} as the upper bound for practical computational complexity. Besides, even for computers with computational power not exceeding 252\mathbf{2^{52}} (resp. 255\mathbf{2^{55}}), we can still recover 58%\mathbf{58\%} (resp. 46.6%\mathbf{46.6\%}) of the keys in the key space for 820 rounds (resp. 830 rounds). Our attacks have led 10 rounds more than the previous best practical attack

    Traditional Chinese Medicine Improves Activities of Daily Living in Parkinson's Disease

    We evaluated the effects of a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), named Zeng-xiao An-shen Zhi-chan 2 (ZAZ2), on patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Among 115 patients with idiopathic PD enrolled (mean age, 64.7 Ā± 10.2 years old), 110 patients (M = 65, F = 45; mean age, 64.9 Ā± 10.7 years old) completed the study. Patients took either ZAZ2 (n = 59) or placebo granule (n = 56) in a blind manner for 13 weeks while maintaining other anti-Parkinson medications unchanged. All participants wore a motion logger, and we analyzed the power-law temporal autocorrelation of the motion logger records taken on 3 occasions (before, one week, and 13 weeks after the drug administration). Drug efficacy was evaluated with the conventional Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS), as well as the power-law exponent Ī±, which corresponds to the level of physical activity of the patients. ZAZ2 but not placebo granule improved the awake-sleep rhythm, the UPDRS Part II, Part IIā€‰+ā€‰III, and Part IV scores, and the Ī± values. The results indicate that ZAZ2 improved activities of daily living (ADL) of parkinsonism and, thus, is a potentially suitable drug for long-term use

    Aim. To determine one traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) Nao-Xue-Shu oral liquid which protects and improves secondary brain insults (SBI) in hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage (HCH). Methods. 158 patients with HCH were divided into routine clinical medicine plus Nao-Xue-Shu oral liquid (n=78) as treatment group, and routine clinical medicine (n=80) only served as the control group. The incidence of SBI and the classification of a favorable prognosis and a bad prognosis using the Glasgow outcome scale (GOS) were assessed to evaluate the clinical effects. The changes of IL-6 and TNF-Ī± levels were determined to study the mechanism of the effects for the TCM. Results. The incidence of SBI at the end of week 2 was 8.97% in the treatment group and 23.75% in the control group, and the difference was significant (P<0.001). The incidence of a favorable prognosis was 48.72% in the treatment group and 32.72% in the control group, and the difference was significant (P<0.01) at the end of week 2. These findings indicate clear differences for IL-6 and TNF-Ī± at the end of week 1 and week 2 compared with before treatment for the treatment group and a marked difference at the end of week 2 between the two groups. It also shows a significant difference between the end of week 2 and before treatment for IL-6 and TNF-Ī± for the control group, although the difference was much smaller than the treatment group. Conclusion. Nao-Xue-Shu oral liquid could protect against the occurrence of SBI and improve HCH and SBI patients. It may also decrease the damage and the mass effects of the hematoma by reducing IL-6 and TNF-Ī± to obtain the effects, and thus it is a potentially suitable drug for HCH and SBI

    The Use of Integrative Therapies in Patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in Shanghai, China

    Objective. To investigate the current use of integrative therapies (IT) in the treatment of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Methods. A cross-sectional, multicenter clinical epidemiological survey was conducted in 12 hospitals in Shanghai. We investigated the type and frequency of IT use and determined whether the use of IT correlated with demographic, social, or disease-specific characteristics in our patient population. Results. A total of 231 (89.5%) of 258 patients with ALS were eligible for the study and 229 (99% of all) of 231 reported the use of at least one IT for the treatment of ALS. Vitamins and Chinese herb decoctions, Chinese herb compounds, massage therapy, and acupuncture were the 5 most commonly used therapies. There was a strong association between education level, income, and use of IT. A household income of more than 75,000ā€‰RMB ($49,995) correlated with multiple IT use, and married patients used IT more often than single individuals. The main reasons for using IT were to treat weakness and fatigue, muscle atrophy, the development of ALS, depression, insomnia, limb pain or numbness, and side effects associated with Riluzole. Conclusion. The use of IT is common in patients with ALS in Shanghai. Vitamins and TCM are the most used additional therapies and the widespread and largely unexamined use of IT for ALS requires more attention

    A Study on Nonlinear Dynamic Response of the Large-Span Roof Structure with Suspended Substructure

    Nowadays, it is common to see large public buildings, e.g., stadiums, with some equipment or substructure suspended from the center of the roof. These substructures will tend to be larger and heavier the more gear is needed, which may have negative impacts on the dynamic performance of the roof structures. In this paper, to explore the dynamic response of a large-span roof structure with a suspended substructure, a real structure model is simplified into a two-degrees-of-freedom system. The essential consideration of nonlinear vibration is elaborated in the equations of motions. Approximate analytical solutions for free and forced vibrations are derived using perturbation methods, while numerical analysis is carried out to validate the solutions. The ratio of linear to nonlinear amplitude is proposed to represent the nonlinear effect of the primary structure, and the nonlinear effect, varying with structural parameters of frequency ratio, mass ratio, excitation ratio, and external force to the primary structure, is investigated. It is shown that internal resonance occurs when the structural frequency ratio is close to 1:2 and that secondary resonance takes place due to certain external excitations; internal resonance and secondary resonance will magnify the amplitude of the primary structure during vibration. Finally, a case of a designed practical dome with a suspended substructure is studied to verify the outcomes from the above research. According to these findings, some design proposals for this type of structure are provided

Although it is partially reversible, the obstructive ventilatory schema of COPD often causes chronic inflammation that primarily affects peripheral airways, pulmonary parenchyma, and the development of lung lymphoid follicles. Among various T-helper (Th) cell types associated with COPD, Th1, Th2 and Th17 cell numbers are increased in COPD patients, whereas Treg cell number is reduced.
