Elastic Wave Scattering and Dynamic Stress Concentrations in Stretching Thick Plates with Two Cutouts by Using the Refined Dynamic Theory
Based on the refined dynamic equation of stretching plates, the elastic tension–compression wave scattering and dynamic stress concentrations in the thick plate with two cutouts are studied. In view of the problem that the shear stress is automatically satisfied under the free boundary condition, the generalized stress of the first-order vanishing moment of shear stress is considered. The numerical results indicate that, as the cutout is thick, the maximum value of the dynamic stress factor obtained using the refined dynamic theory is 19% higher than that from the solution of plane stress problems of elastic dynamics
RFID-enabled real-time manufacturing execution system for discrete manufacturing: Software design and implementation
Discrete manufacturing (DM) refers to produce products in non-sequential processes so as to respond to market and customer requirements quickly under limited lead-time. However, in shop-floor management, DM companies usually confront challenges such as information gaps between different manufacturing units, slow responsiveness to customer changes, and poor visualization. The main reasons are lacking of efficient manufacturing data collection manners and software to support shop-floor management. This paper introduces an RFID-enabled real-time manufacturing execution system (RT-MES) for improving DM shop-floor management level in the perspective of illustrating the RT-MES software design and implementation. Several contributions from this paper are significant. First, a framework of RFID-enabled RT-MES is proposed, which is generic and helpful for enterprise information system (EIS) construction. Second, a plug-universal database-aided design (PUDAD) concept and its realization are elaborated, which could reduce RT-MES development and implementation cycle. Third, an interface middleware is reported to enable RT-MES real-time intercommunication with other EISs such as SAP ERP. Temporal and Spatial Dynamics of Carbon Fixation by Moso Bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens) in Subtropical China
To study the temporal and spatial dynamics of carbon fixation by Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens) in subtropical China, carbon fixation of leaves within the canopy of P. pubescens was measured with a LI-6400 portable photosynthesis system. The results showed that the capability of carbon fixation of P. pubescens leaves had obvious temporal and spatial dynamic variations. It was revealed that there were two peak periods and two low periods in the season variation of carbon fixation capability. Data also revealed that the capability of carbon fixation by five-year-old P. pubescens was more than that of one-year-old and three-year-old. Daily and seasonal carbon fixation showed a negative correlation with the CO2 concentration. The temporal and spatial dynamics of carbon fixation by P. pubescens described above provided a scientific basis for development of technologies in bamboo timber production
Proteomic analysis of a preneoplastic phenotype in ovarian surface epithelial cells derived from prophylactic oophorectomies
Objective. To study the pattern of protein expression associated with a predisposition to develop ovarian cancer. Methods. Prophylactic oophorectomy is used to prevent ovarian carcinoma in high-risk populations who have a strong family history of breast/ovarian cancer. In ovarian specimens of these women, the ovarian surface epithelium (OSE), which is tissue of origin of epithelial ovarian cancer, often shows altered morphology, growth patterns and differentiation features that are believed to be preneoplastic. This study has used a proteomic approach, based on two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry, to compare the protein profiles of OSE from women with a history of familial ovarian cancer (FH-OSE), i.e., at least two first-degree relatives with such cancer and/or testing positive for BRCA1 mutations, to those without such history (NFH-OSE). Results. Of >1500 protein spots, there were 8 proteins whose levels were significantly altered in FH-OSE. Three were known ovarian tumor associated proteins, others were novel changes. A number of the alterations seen were accompanied with protein modifications and have not been previously reported. There was a predominance of sequences related to the stress response pathway. Differential expression of selected genes was confirmed by Western blotting and real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Conclusions. Our findings define the OSE phenotype of women at a high risk of developing ovarian cancer. Protein alterations seen in these tissues may represent an early, irreversible, non-mutational step in ovarian epithelial neoplastic progression and may be potential early and sensitive markers for the evaluation of cancer risk. © 2005 Elsevier Inc. A model for ranking sentence pairs in parallel corpora
In this paper, the problem of ranking sentence pairs in parallel corpora was addressed for the first time. To solve this problem, a novel model was proposed. In this model, both syntax features and semantics features of sentence pairs are considered. Since most today's Statistical Machine Translation models depend on word alignment, features related to word alignment information are also included. Two experiments were carried out and the results showed that the model had promising performance
Synchronous bursts on scale-free neuronal networks with attractive and repulsive coupling
This paper investigates the dependence of synchronization transitions of
bursting oscillations on the information transmission delay over scale-free
neuronal networks with attractive and repulsive coupling. It is shown that for
both types of coupling, the delay always plays a subtle role in either
promoting or impairing synchronization. In particular, depending on the
inherent oscillation period of individual neurons, regions of irregular and
regular propagating excitatory fronts appear intermittently as the delay
increases. These delay-induced synchronization transitions are manifested as
well-expressed minima in the measure for spatiotemporal synchrony. For
attractive coupling, the minima appear at every integer multiple of the average
oscillation period, while for the repulsive coupling, they appear at every odd
multiple of the half of the average oscillation period. The obtained results
are robust to the variations of the dynamics of individual neurons, the system
size, and the neuronal firing type. Hence, they can be used to characterize

A Comparison of Centering Algorithms in the Astrometry of Cassini Imaging Science Subsystem Images and Anthe’s Astrometric Reduction
In the CAVIAR software package, a standard tool for astrometry of images from the Cassini imaging science subsystem (ISS), Gaussian fitting is used to measure the centre of point-like objects, achieving a typical precision of about 0.2 pixels. In this work, we consider how alternative methods may improve on this. We compare three traditional centroiding methods: two-dimensional Gaussian fitting, median, and modified moment. Results using 56 selected images show that the centroiding precision of the modified moment method is significantly better than the other two methods, with standard deviations for all residuals in sample and line of 0.065 and 0.063 pixels, respectively, representing a factor of over 2 improvement compared to Gaussian fitting. Secondly, a comparison of observations using Cassini ISS images of Anthe is performed. Anthe results show a similar improvement. The modified moment method is then used to reduce all ISS images of Anthe during the period 2008–2017. The observed-minus-calculated residuals relative to the JPL SAT393 ephemeris are calculated. In terms of α × cos(δ) and δ in the Cassini-centred international celestial reference frame, mean values of all residuals are close to 0 km, and their standard deviations are less than 1 km for narrow angle camera images, and about 4 km for wide angle camera images
Characterization and application of monoclonal antibodies against turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) rhabdovirus
Five monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), 1G8, 1H9, 2D2, 2D3, and 2F5, against Scophthalmus maximus rhabdovirus (SMRV) were prepared. Characterization of the mAbs included indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, isotyping, viral inhibition assay, immunofluorescence staining of virus-infected cell cultures, and Western blot analysis. Isotyping revealed that 1G8 and 1H9 were of the IgG2b subclass and that the other three were IgM. 2D2, 2D3, and 2F5 partially inhibited SMRV infection in epithelioma. papulosum cyprinid (EPC) cell culture. Western blotting showed that all five mAbs could react with two SMRV proteins with molecular masses of approximately 30 kDa (P) and 26 kDa (M). These two proteins were localized within the cytoplasm of SMRV-infected EPC cells by immunofluorescence assay. Also, progressive foci of viral replication in cell cultures were monitored from 6 to 24 h, using mAb 2D3 as the primary antibody. A flow cytometry procedure was used to detect and quantify SMRV-infected (0.01 PFU/cell) EPC cells with mAb 2D3, and 10.8% of cells could be distinguished as infected 36 h postinfection. Urban energy consumption and CO2 emissions in Beijing: current and future
This paper calculates the energy consumption and CO2 emissions of Beijing over 2005–2011 in light of the Beijing’s energy balance table and the carbon emission coefficients of IPCC. Furthermore, based on a series of energy conservation planning program issued in Beijing, the Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning System (LEAP)-BJ model is developed to study the energy consumption and CO2 emissions of Beijing’s six end-use sectors and the energy conversion sector over 2012–2030 under the BAU scenario and POL scenario. Some results are found in this research: (1) During 2005–2011, the energy consumption kept increasing, while the total CO2 emissions fluctuated obviously in 2008 and 2011. The energy structure and the industrial structure have been optimized to a certain extent. (2) If the policies are completely implemented, the POL scenario is projected to save 21.36 and 35.37 % of the total energy consumption and CO2 emissions than the BAU scenario during 2012 and 2030. (3) The POL scenario presents a more optimized energy structure compared with the BAU scenario, with the decrease of coal consumption and the increase of natural gas consumption. (4) The commerce and service sector and the energy conversion sector will become the largest contributor to energy consumption and CO2 emissions, respectively. The transport sector and the industrial sector are the two most potential sectors in energy savings and carbon reduction. In terms of subscenarios, the energy conservation in transport (TEC) is the most effective one. (5) The macroparameters, such as the GDP growth rate and the industrial structure, have great influence on the urban energy consumption and carbon emissions
