Performance analysis of large scale MU-MIMO with optimal linear receivers

    Get PDF
We consider the uplink of multicell multiuser MIMO (MU-MIMO) systems with very large antenna arrays at the base station (BS). We assume that the BS estimates the channel through uplink training, and then uses this channel estimate to detect the signals transmitted from a multiplicity of autonomous users in its cell. By taking the correlation between the channel estimate and the interference from other cells into account, we propose an optimal linear receiver (OLR) which maximizes the received signal-to-interference-plus-noise (SINR). Analytical approximations of the exact and lower bound on the achievable rate are then derived. The bound is very tight, especially at large number of BS antennas. We show that at low SINR, maximalratio combing (MRC) receiver performs as well as OLR, however at high SINR, OLR outperforms MRC. Compared with the typical minimum mean-square error receiver, our proposed OLR improves systematically the system performance, especially when the interference is large

Enhanced low C/N nitrogen removal in an innovative microbial fuel cell (MFC) with electroconductivity aerated membrane (EAM) as biocathode

© 2016 Elsevier B.V. A novel microbial fuel cell (MFC) was developed to enhance simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) by employing electrons from the anode. The cathode chamber of the reactor consisted of a membrane aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) which was made of an electroconductivity aerated membrane. The maximum power density of 4.20 ± 0.12 W m−3was obtained at a current density of 4.10 ± 0.11 A m−2(external resistance = 10 Ω). Compared with an open-circuit system, the removal rates of NH4+-N and TN were improved by 9.48 ± 0.33% and 19.80 ± 0.84%, respectively, which could be ascribed to the electrochemical denitrification. The anode (chemical oxygen demand, COD) and cathode (NO3−) chambers reached the maximum coulombic efficiencies (CEs) of 40.67 ± 1.05% and 42.84 ± 1.14%, respectively. It suggested that the electroconductivity MABR has some advantages in controlling aeration intensity, thus improving SND and CEs. Overall, EAM-MFC could successfully generate electricity from wastewater whilst showing high capacity for removing nitrogen at a low COD/N ratio of 2.8 ± 0.07 g COD g−1N

Statistical Mechanics of the Hyper Vertex Cover Problem

We introduce and study a new optimization problem called Hyper Vertex Cover. This problem is a generalization of the standard vertex cover to hypergraphs: one seeks a configuration of particles with minimal density such that every hyperedge of the hypergraph contains at least one particle. It can also be used in important practical tasks, such as the Group Testing procedures where one wants to detect defective items in a large group by pool testing. Using a Statistical Mechanics approach based on the cavity method, we study the phase diagram of the HVC problem, in the case of random regualr hypergraphs. Depending on the values of the variables and tests degrees different situations can occur: The HVC problem can be either in a replica symmetric phase, or in a one-step replica symmetry breaking one. In these two cases, we give explicit results on the minimal density of particles, and the structure of the phase space. These problems are thus in some sense simpler than the original vertex cover problem, where the need for a full replica symmetry breaking has prevented the derivation of exact results so far. Finally, we show that decimation procedures based on the belief propagation and the survey propagation algorithms provide very efficient strategies to solve large individual instances of the hyper vertex cover problem.Comment: Submitted to PR

Free nitrous acid-based nitrifying sludge treatment in a two-sludge system enhances nutrient removal from low-carbon wastewater

© 2017 Elsevier Ltd A new method to enhance nutrient removal from low carbon-wastewater was developed. The method consists of a two-sludge system (i.e., an anaerobic-anoxic-oxic reactor coupled to a nitrifying reactor (N-SBR)) and a nitrifying-sludge treatment unit using free nitrous acid (FNA). Initially, 65.1 ± 2.9% in total nitrogen removal and 69.6 ± 3.4% in phosphate removal were obtained without nitrite accumulation. When 1/16 of the nitrifying sludge was daily treated with FNA at 1.1 mg N/L for 24 h, ∼28.5% of nitrite was accumulated in the N-SBR, and total nitrogen and phosphate removal increased to 72.4 ± 3.2% and 76.7 ± 2.9%, respectively. About 67.8% of nitrite was accumulated at 1.9 mg N/L FNA, resulting in 82.9 ± 3.8% in total nitrogen removal and 87.9 ± 3.5% in phosphate removal. Fluorescence in-situ hybridization analysis showed that FNA treatment reduced the abundance of nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB), especially that of Nitrospira sp

Nitrogen removal and nitrous oxide emission in surface flow constructed wetlands for treating sewage treatment plant effluent: Effect of C/N ratios

© 2017 Elsevier Ltd In order to design treatment wetlands with maximal nitrogen removal and minimal nitrous oxide (N2O) emission, the effect of influent C/N ratios on nitrogen removal and N2O emission in surface flow constructed wetlands (SF CWs) for sewage treatment plant effluent treatment was investigated in this study. The results showed that nitrogen removal and N2O emission in CWs were significantly affected by C/N ratio of influent. Much higher removal efficiency of NH4+-N (98%) and TN (90%) was obtained simultaneously in SF CWs at C/N ratios of 12:1, and low N2O emission (8.2 mg/m2/d) and the percentage of N2O-N emission in TN removal (1.44%) were also observed. These results obtained in this study would be utilized to determine how N2O fluxes respond to variations in C/N ratios and to improve the sustainability of CWs for wastewater treatment

On the solutions of universal differential equation by noncommutative Picard-Vessiot theory

Basing on Picard-Vessiot theory of noncommutative differential equations and algebraic combinatorics on noncommutative formal series with holomorphic coefficients, various recursive constructions of sequences of grouplike series converging to solutions of universal differential equation are proposed. Basing on monoidal factorizations, these constructions intensively use diagonal series and various pairs of bases in duality, in concatenation-shuffle bialgebra and in a Loday's generalized bialgebra. As applications, the unique solution, satisfying asymptotic conditions, of Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations is provided by d\'evissage

On The Global Renormalization and Regularization of Several Complex Variable Zeta Functions by Computer

This review concerns the resolution of a special case of Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations (KZ3KZ_3) using our recent results on combinatorial aspects of zeta functions on several variables and software on noncommutative symbolic computations. In particular, we describe the actual solution of (KZ3)(KZ_3) leading to the unique noncommutative series, ΦKZ\Phi_{KZ}, so-called Drinfel'd associator (or Drinfel'd series). Non-trivial expressions for series with rational coefficients, satisfying the same properties with ΦKZ\Phi_{KZ}, are also explicitly provided due to the algebraic structure and the singularity analysis of the polylogarithms and harmonic sums
