Authoring Relational Queries on the Mobile Devices
AbstractIn this paper, we present the design and implementation of a graphical user interface to interact with a relational database management system on touch screen based mobile devices. Our system allows users to author arbitrary graphical relational queries on the touch screen using a collection of on-screen widgets and gestures. The user can interact, introspect and integrate pieces of sub-queries on the mobile device. The system dynamically performs type checking during the authoring, so the user receives immediate visual feedback in case of semantic error in the resulting query. We have deployed our system on several Android devices ranging from the 4” smart phones to 7” and 10” tablets. Our usability study shows that our query interface provides a significant improvement in the user experience when querying a relational data model. The system allows fast authoring speed of complex queries, and user friendly experience
Aharonov-Casher phase and persistent current in a polyacetylene ring
We investigate a polyacetylene ring in an axially symmetric, static electric
field with a modified SSH Hamiltonian of a polyacetylene chain. An effective
gauge potential of the single electron Hamiltonian due to spin-field
interaction is obtained and it results in a Fr\"{o}hlich's type of
superconductivity equivalent to the effect of travelling lattice wave. The
total energy as well as the persistent current density are shown to be a
periodic function of the flux of the gauge field embraced by the polyacetylene
ring.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figure
Fermionic R-operator approach for the small-polaron model with open boundary condition
Exact integrability and algebraic Bethe ansatz of the small-polaron model
with the open boundary condition are discussed in the framework of the quantum
inverse scattering method (QISM). We employ a new approach where the fermionic
R-operator which consists of fermion operators is a key object. It satisfies
the Yang-Baxter equation and the reflection equation with its corresponding
K-operator. Two kinds of 'super-transposition' for the fermion operators are
defined and the dual reflection equation is obtained. These equations prove the
integrability and the Bethe ansatz equation which agrees with the one obtained
from the graded Yang-Baxter equation and the graded reflection equations.Comment: 10 page
Dendritic Morphology of Caudal Periaqueductal Gray Projecting Retinal Ganglion Cells in Mongolian Gerbil (Meriones unguiculatus)
In this study we investigated the morphological features of the caudal periaqueductal gray (cPAG)-projecting retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) in Mongolian gerbils using retrograde labeling, in vitro intracellular injection, confocal microscopy and three-dimensional reconstruction approaches. cPAG-projecting RGCs exhibit small somata (10–17 µm) and irregular dendritic fields (201–298 µm). Sizes of somata and dendritic fields do not show obvious variation at different distance from the optic disk (eccentricity). Dendrites are moderately branched. Morphological analysis (n = 23) reveals that cPAG-projecting RGCs ramified in sublamina a and b in the inner plexiform layer. These cells exhibit different stratification patterns based on the thickness of dendritic bands in sublaminas a and b: majority of analyzed cells (16 out of 23) have two bands of arborizations share similar thickness. The rest of analyzed cells (7 out of 23) exhibit thinner band in sublamina a than in sublamina b. Together, the present study suggests that cPAG of Mongolian gerbil could receive direct retinal inputs from two types of bistratified RGCs. Furthermore, a small subset of melanopsin-expressing RGCs (total 41 in 6 animals) is shown to innervate the rostral PAG (rPAG). Functional characteristics of these non-visual center projecting RGCs remain to be determined.published_or_final_versio
