The semantic varieties of space and time based on the content-related and functional criterion are considered in this paper on the example of the novel «The time of women» written by the modern writer E. Chizhova living in St. Petersburg. The principles of the author’s artistic world organization, based on coexisting and interpenetrating worlds (past and present, reality and dreams, the world of living and the dead, life and myth, reality and convention) are pointed out; their meaning in the structure of the artistic whole is defined. The artistic chronotope is proved to be one of the most important means of realization of the author’s idea

The paper is related to the study of national and regional spatial images in the Russian literature. The analysis was carried out on the material of the Orenburg literature and was based on structural-semantic approach to the literary space.
