Otocephaly, and pulmonary malformation association: two case reports.
Otocephaly is a rare lethal malformation of the first and second branchial arches. We report two infants with otocephaly and failed resuscitation. Both infants had pulmonary malformations: pulmonary hypoplasia and two-lobed right lung. We report these rare associations with a brief review of the literature
Bile-stained amniotic fluid: a case report
Abstract Background Green-stained amniotic fluid does not always indicate that meconium was passed in utero. Case presentation We report the case of a 2280-g Hispanic preterm female born at 32 weeks of gestation with congenital jejunal atresia. The amniotic fluid was greenish stained; the initial impression was meconium-stained amniotic fluid. Postnatal findings revealed no meconium in her rectum. The content of her first stool appeared sticky and white. Conclusion In the absence of meconium in the rectum, the pediatrician should consider the possibility that the greenish amniotic fluid is not meconium stained, but rather stained with bile due to the fetus vomiting in utero secondary to intestinal obstruction
Poland-Mobius syndrome in an infant girl
Mobius syndrome is a rare condition of unclear origin, characterized by a unilateral or bilateral congenital facial weakness with impairment of ocular abduction, which is frequently associated with limb anomalies. Poland described a condition in which there was unilateral absence of pectoralis major muscle and ipsilateral syndactyly. The combination of Poland-Mobius syndrome is rare, with an estimated prevalence 1:500 000. We describe a case of Poland-Mobius syndrome in association with congenital bilateral vocal fold immobility. To our knowldge, this is the first report of such an association between Poland-Mobius syndrome and congenital bilateral vocal fold immobility
