    Consider Engineering Program

    Consider Engineering is a challenging and rewarding four-day summer program for high school juniors to get a taste of college life and what it takes to be an engineer. This program is offered three times in July to groups of 36 students who have completed their junior year of study, excel in math and science, and demonstrate communication and leadership skills. This free-of-charge educational and inspiring program is competitive, with only half the applicants gaining admission. Food and lodging is included

    The University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation recruits, financially supports and prepares talented engineering students to become the next great leaders in the pulp and paper industry, while also helping to meet the workforce needs of the industry. The oldest pulp and paper foundation in America and a pioneer of the first program in the country to study pulp and paper engineering, University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation was organized in 1950, and incorporated in 1953, as a non-profit corporation. The Foundation awards more than 100 full or partial tuition scholarships annually and are represented by the most alumni in the industry.     There’s a lot of excitement around the UMaine Pulp and Paper Foundation family these days. Our very own President, Carrie Enos, was recently announced by The Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) as a 2021 TAPPI Fellow! TAPPI Fellows are awarded because of their commitment and extraordinary technical or service contributions to not only TAPPI, but the entire pulp and paper industry. Each year, the Association at TAPPI elects a small percentage of its 14,000 member engineers, scientists, managers, academics and other pulp and paper industry professionals to be TAPPI Fellows. This is a distinguished honor among its members and an honorary title to be forever proud of achieving. The title of Fellow is also given to TAPPI Board chairs, vice chairs, directors and other distinguished award recipients

Jordon Gregory, class of 2022, took over our social media stories for one day to show everyone what a typical day as a chemical engineering student looks like for her. Jordon mentioned some of our favorite things about campus: the beautiful Mall, the center of campus, and that we’re only a short two-hour car ride to one of the most visited national parks in the country—Acadia National Park. Being a UMaine engineering student and pulp and paper scholarship recipient is challenging, for sure. But our students receive all the resources and support they need in order to succeed
