    Label-free piezoelectric biosensor for prognosis and diagnosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

    [EN] An autoantigen piezoelectric sensor to quantify specific circulating autoantibodies in human serum is developed. The sensor consisted on a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) where TRIM21 and TROVE2 autoantigens were covalently immobilized, allowing the selective determination of autoantibodies for diagnosis and prognosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). The sensitivity of the biosensor, measured as IC50 value, was 1.51 U/mL and 0.32 U/mL, for anti-TRIM21 and anti-TROVE2 circulating autoantibodies, respectively. The sensor is also able to establish a structural interaction fingerprint pattern or profile of circulating autoantibodies, what allows scoring accurately SLE patients. Furthermore, a statistical association of global disease activity with TRIM21-TROVE2 interaction was found (n=130 lupic patient samples, p-value=0.0413).     Use of separate single-tooth implant restorations to replace two or more consecutive posterior teeth: a prospective cohort study for up to 1 year

    PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the periodontal and prosthodontic complications of multiple freestanding implants in the posterior jaws for up to 1 year of function. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Eight patients received 20 implants posterior to canines. Two or more implants were consecutively inserted to each patient. Single crowns were delivered onto the implants. Marginal bone loss, implant mobility, probing depth, and screw loosening were examined to evaluate the clinical success of such restorations for maximum 1 year of functional loading. RESULTS. All the implants performed well during the observation period. Neither periodontal nor prosthodontic complications were found except a slight porcelain chipping. While the marginal bone level was on average 0.09 mm lower around the implant after 6 months of loading, it was 0.15 mm higher after 1 year. CONCLUSION. Within the limits of this investigation, separate single-tooth implant restorations to replace consecutive missing teeth may clinically function well in the posterior jaw

    Contains fulltext : 49769.pdf (publisher's version ) (Closed access)OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present study was to determine the relationship between implant surface parameters, surgical approach and initial implant fixation. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Sixty tapered, conical, screw-shaped implants with machined or etched surface topography were implanted into the explanted femoral condyle of goats. The implant sites were prepared either by a conventional technique, by undersized preparation, or by the osteotome technique. Peak insertion & removal torque, bone-to-implant contacts (BIC) and morphological bone appearance were assessed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and micro-computer tomography. (micro-CT). RESULTS: Insertion and removal torque values were significantly higher for etched implants inserted with the undersized technique (115.2 +/- 31.1, 102.9 +/- 36.4 N cm) respectively. Also, the average BIC value was higher for the etched implants placed with the undersized technique (87.5 +/- 5.6), which was statistically significant compared with machined and etched implants inserted by conventional technique. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, this study shows that the surgical technique has a decisive effect on implant fixation (represented in this study by installation torque value/removal torque value and histomorphometric evaluation) in trabecular bone. Nevertheless, additional in vivo studies have to be done to prove the importance of surgical protocol for the final implant-bone response
