Generalization of the Manley-Rowe relations for non-periodic signals constrained in bandwidth with finite energy

    Get PDF
General relations for the energy spectral densities of nonperiodic signals constrained in bandwidth in nonlinear reactances are derived. It is assumed that the charge-voltage characteristics of the reactances are polynomials. In addition certain conditions for the frequency bands of the signals must be met. By contrast with the Manley-Rowe relations integrals with respect to frequency appear instead of the ratios power over frequency. The integrands are energy spectral densities divided by frequency. For parametric devices inequalities can be derived for the ratios of the energy levels in the different circuits and the limiting frequencies of the energy spectral densities. With these inequalities it is possible to determine limits for the energy levels

Confidence Corridors for Multivariate Generalized Quantile Regression

We focus on the construction of confidence corridors for multivariate nonparametric generalized quantile regression functions. This construction is based on asymptotic results for the maximal deviation between a suitable nonparametric estimator and the true function of interest which follow after a series of approximation steps including a Bahadur representation, a new strong approximation theorem and exponential tail inequalities for Gaussian random fields. As a byproduct we also obtain confidence corridors for the regression function in the classical mean regression. In order to deal with the problem of slowly decreasing error in coverage probability of the asymptotic confidence corridors, which results in meager coverage for small sample sizes, a simple bootstrap procedure is designed based on the leading term of the Bahadur representation. The finite sample properties of both procedures are investigated by means of a simulation study and it is demonstrated that the bootstrap procedure considerably outperforms the asymptotic bands in terms of coverage accuracy. Finally, the bootstrap confidence corridors are used to study the efficacy of the National Supported Work Demonstration, which is a randomized employment enhancement program launched in the 1970s. The development of German new technology-based firms from a resource-based view

The author analyzed three different perspectives of the development of new technology-based firms (NTBFs) from the resource-based view. The first article discusses how the resource base impacts the internationalization behavior of German NTBFs. Some companies go international early, some internationalize only after a few years. We argued that the resource base is a substantial factor determining if a NTBF will internationalize or not. In the second article, we analyze how the resource base impacts the survival of German NTBFs. We argued that a lack of sufficient resources can lead to early business failure. We further state that the different resources are necessary to fulfill the requirements within the development phases of the NTBF. To broaden our perspective we combined the resource-based view with the market view. In the third article, we analyzed how the resource base impacts the business model innovation of NTBFs. The business model for NTBFs must often be tailored to fulfill the requirements of potential customers or to further grow the business. A sufficient resource base is necessary to be able to change the business model and buffer the transition phase.:1 Introduction 2 Research gap 3 Different themes on NTBF research 4 The resource-based perspective 5 Corresponding research project 6 Scientific contribution for the doctoral thesis 7 Further academic and practical contributions 8 Acknowledgement 9 Literature 10 Declaration of authorship 11 Appendi

John Rice, Music in the Eighteenth Century

John Rice’s Music in the Eighteenth Century is part of W. W. Norton’s effort to update their period-specific textbook offerings, a welcome event given that the volume from their previous series, Philip G. Downs’s Classical Music: The Era of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven,is now more than twenty years old. Much has changed in those intervening decades, especially insofar as a textbook on the Classical era is concerned

The Integrated Reporting Journey and the Influence of Sustainability Reporting - Experiences and Practices from Sweden and Germany

    Get PDF
Integrated reporting is an approach to corporate reporting that seeks to integrate significant financial and non-financial information and demonstrate how they are connected to each other. By doing so, integrated reporting is expected to lead to integrated thinking and decision-making, reflecting how an organisation impacts and is impacted by the economic, social and environmental context in which it operates. The reporting approach is still in the early phases of development where knowledge relating to its implementation and the implications for reporting organisations is scarce. The aim of this thesis is to contribute to the knowledge of how integrated reporting fits into the existing corporate reporting landscape, how organisations apply integrated reporting in practice and how they are affected by taking this approach. The study investigates the interactions between integrated and sustainability reporting, including a comparison of relevant frameworks. It presents result from 17 interviews with company representatives and other experts involved in integrated reporting. Moreover, six integrated reports from Swedish and German companies are analysed. Findings highlight the importance of sustainability reporting for the integrated reporting process and suggest that integrated reporting might influence how sustainability information will be communicated in the future. The thesis uncovers different factors that motivate companies to move towards integrated reporting and outlines corresponding challenges. Integrated reporting is found to positively influence interdepartmental collaboration and to increase the mutual understanding between different corporate functions. The study shows that integrated reporting enables a better understanding of sustainability aspects throughout a company and supports the integration of sustainability considerations in discussions on corporate strategy. Analysed integrated reports are found to be very diverse and examples show different approaches of how integrated reporting can be applied. The insights might provide guidance on the way towards integrated reporting and can help companies to better assess the possible benefits and drawbacks of taking this approach
