    System for Increasing the Seismic Safety of Pipelines in the Water Supply and Distribution Networks

    Seismic activity of small, medium or high intensity has a destructive effect on existing water supply and distribution networks. In the scholar literature, these are included in Class I&mdash Vital Performance Systems, whose operation must be uninterrupted in case of a seismic event. Water networks are also essential for the safe operation of certain critical subsystems in the event of an earthquake (fire-extinguishing systems, etc.), in order to avoid loss of human lives, reduce adverse environmental impacts and limit damage caused by fires. The article proposes a seismic safety system for the water transport pipelines obtained by designing, executing and testing an experimental design, a system that can be used to increase the seismic resilience of the water supply and distribution network pipelines. The experimental data obtained were verified on the basis of the theoretical data available in the literature. The results of the research are particularly useful and can be proposed for use from the stage of designing new networks to providing expertise for existing networks, for establishing the most-stressed areas in which to be installed, and for implementing both execution and at the same time rehabilitation and upgrading.     cited By 48International audienceNew 1,3,4-thiadiazole, 6, 7 and 1,2,4-triazole derivatives, 8, 9 containing a phenylalanine moiety have been synthesized by intramolecular cyclization of 1,4- disubstituted thiosemicarbazides, 4, 5, in acid and alkaline media, respectively; the thiosemicarbazides were obtained by reaction of hydrazide 3 with appropriate aromatic isothiocyanates. The toxicity of the synthesized compounds was evaluated and the antiinflammatory study of the triazole compound 9 established an appreciable antiinflammatory activity that is comparable with that of other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents. © 2009 by the authors; licensee Molecular Diversity Preservation International, Basel, Switzerland

    cited By 8International audienceIn order to obtain new compounds with antitumoural action the N-(meta-acylaminobenzoyl)-α-acylaminobenzoyl)-α-aminoacids 4-9 were prepared. These compounds were subsequently converted into the corresponding Δ2-oxazolin-5-ones 10-15, which in turn were submitted to a ring opening reaction with di-(β-chloroethyl)amine to afford the peptide supported N-mustards 16-21, which showed low toxicity and cytostatic activity similar to that of sarcolisine against the Ehrlich ascite and Walker 253 carcinosarcoma. © 2007 by MDPI

    Synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of (2-oxaadamant-1-yl)amines.

    The synthesis of several (2-oxaadamant-1-yl)amines is reported. They were evaluated as NMDA receptor antagonists and several of them were more active than amantadine, but none was more potent than memantine. None of the tested compounds displayed antiviral activity. Two of the derivatives showed a significant level of trypanocidal activity
