Synthesis and characterization of Thiol functionalized Mesoporous Zirconia and its utilizisation for the removal of methyl blue from waste water
In this work, functionalized mesoporous zirconia have been synthesized by a simple chemical process, in the presence of pluronic F127, MPTMS and toluene. The microscopic assembly of the thiol functionalized material and the crystallinity of the pore walls were studied by using small X-ray powder diffractions. Batch adsorption study was conducted to investigate the removal of methyl blue from waste water by using thiol functionalized mesoporous zirconia. Adsorption experiments were conducted as a function of adsorbent dose, equilibrium pH, contact time, initial concentration, adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherms. The characterization and mechanisms involved in adsorption of methyl blue on the material were studied by using instrumental technique like XRD, FTIR, SEM, BET and chemical methods. The adsorption kinetic studies indicated that the overall adsorption process was best described by pseudo-second-order kinetics. The adsorption data were fitted linearly transformed Langmuir isotherm with R2 (correlation coefficient) > 0.97. The results indicate that thiol functionalized mesoporous zirconia can be used as an effective and low cost adsorbent for the treatment of wastewater

Assessment of Allelopathic Potential of an Obnoxious Weed-Hyptis Suaveolens (l.) Piot. on the Seed Germination of Crops-Triticum Aestivum L. and Eleusine Coracana Gaertn
The plant, Hyptis suaveolens (L.) Poit. commonly known as Wilayati tulsi belongs to the family Lamiaceae .The plant has been considered as an obnoxious weed, distributed throughout the tropics and subtropics. It is naturalized in India and is considered as a potent invader. Although it has several medicinal properties and used in folklore remedies but its spread is so fast that in due course of its establishment it disrupts the recruitment pattern in the nearby occupied. Not only it restricts the area for other species but it increases livestock pressure on the native species because of its unpalatable nature due to presence of essential oils. However, no information is available in the literature on the allelopathic activity of this obnoxious weed on the germination of the crop plants like Triticum aestivum L., (wheat) and Eleusine coracana Gaertn., (Ragi). The allelopathy of Hyptis suaveolens (L.) Piot., was studied by extracting the crude aqueous extracts- leachates from the leaves of this plant and 3 different concentrations – 0.01%, 0.25% and 1% of these extracts were assessed on the germination of test crops - Triticum aestivum L and Eleusine coracana Gaertn. The linear growth - Root length and Shoot length and the Fresh and Dry matter accumulation were recorded. The Growth equations- Percent Germination of seeds, Percentage Seed mortality, Relative Growth Ratio, Relative Elongation of Shoot, Relative Elongation of Roots, Relative Biomass Ratio and Seed Vigour index of seeds were calculated for the above test crops. The results show that the 1% leachate showed inhibition on all the above mentioned parameters analyzed in Wheat while the same 1% concentration in case of Ragi showed inhibitory effect on Percent Germination of seeds, Percentage Seed mortality, Relative Growth Ratio, Relative Elongation of Shoot and Relative Biomass Ratio While, the Relative Elongation of Roots and Seed Vigour index of seeds were promoted by the sam

Semantic Retrieval of Relevant Sources for Large Scale Virtual Documents
AbstractThe term big data has come into use in recent years. It is used to refer to the ever-increasing amount of data that organizations are storing, processing and analyzing. An Interesting fact with bigdata is that it differ in Volume, Variety, Velocity characteristics which makes it difficult to process using the conventional Database Management System. Hence there is a need of schema less Management Systems even this will never be complete solution to bigdata analysis since the processing has no focus on the semantic information as they consider only the structural information. Content Management System like Wikipedia stores and links huge amount of documents and files. There is lack of semantic linking and analysis in such systems even though this kind of CMS uses clusters and distributed framework for storing big data. The retrieved references for a particular article are random and enormous. In order to reduce the number of references for a selected content there is a need for semantic matching. In this paper we propose framework which make use of the distributed parallel processing capability of Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) to perform semantic analysis over the volume of documents (bigdata) to find the best matched source document from the collection source documents for the same virtual document
Machining and Tribological Characterisation of Uncoated and Coated Carbide Inserts while Turning Tungsten Heavy Alloy
Tungsten heavy alloys are high density alloys containing 80 to 98 wt.% tungsten and the balance is a matrix made of relatively low melting elements such as copper, nickel and iron. These alloys are used as radiation shields, CG adjusters and also in armour piercing ammunition. Machining these alloys to close tolerances and finish leads to excessive tool wear, surface damage and hence proves to be a challenging task. This study focuses on turning operation carried out under dry and wet cutting conditions using three different commercially available cemented carbide inserts. Three different feed rates have been used at a constant depth of cut and cutting speed. The best possible cemented carbide tooling solution for machining tungsten heavy alloys has been determined based on the surface finish obtained, chip geometry, cutting forces, and machining temperature. The observations made during machining are correlated to the tribological behavior of the inserts and the alloy with the help of pin-on disc tests. Coated cemented carbide inserts provide surface roughness values lower than 1 µm under finish turning conditions. On the other hand, PVD coated inserts give consistently better results over different feed rates and are found to experience lower tool wear for the specific cutting conditions. Analytical tool wear model suggests better tool life for the PVD coated insert

A GATA-binding protein expressed predominantly in the pupal ovary of the silkworm, Bombyx mori
Preferential localization of Bkm (Banded krait minor-satellite) DNA sequences on Y/W chromosomes of higher eukaryotes, which remain highly condensed in somatic cells but undergo extensive decondensation in the germ cells during early stages of development, led to the postulation for the existence of a sex- and tissue-specific Bkm-binding protein (BBP). Accordingly, we purified and characterized a BmBBP expressed predominantly in pupal ovary of the silkworm (Bombyx mori). 2D-PAGE revealed BmBBP as moderately basic (pI 7.8-8, in the range expected for DNA-binding proteins) and Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time of Flight exhibited a value of 37.5-kDa. BmBBP neither contains nor requires divalent metal ions for its DNA-binding activity, suggesting that it does not belong to the well-studied GATA-family of transcription factors. BmBBP is unusually strong in its DNA-binding characteristics to Bkm (GATA-repeats), which suggests its probable role in bringing about coordinated chromatin conformational changes to activate genes present in associated chromosomal domains. Fluorescence immuno-localization studies employing specific anti-BmBBP antibodies revealed its presence in the follicle cells and in the ooplasm, as well as the nucleus of different developmental stages of oocytes
