    Programmable unitary spatial modes manipulation

Free space propagation and conventional optical systems such as lenses and mirrors all perform spatial unitary transforms. However, the subset of transforms available through these conventional systems is limited in scope. We present here a unitary programmable mode converter (UPMC) capable of performing any spatial unitary transform of the light field. It is based on a succession of reflections on programmable deformable mirrors and free space propagation. We first show theoretically that a UPMC without limitations on resources can perform perfectly any transform. We then build an experimental implementation of the UPMC and show that, even when limited to three reflections on an array of 12 pixels, the UPMC is capable of performing single mode tranforms with an efficiency greater than 80% for the first 4 modes of the TEM basis

    Active damping of large trusses

    No full text
This chapter reviews various ways of damping large space trusses. The first part discusses the use of active struts consisting of a piezoelectric actuator collocated with a force sensor. The guaranteed stability properties of the integral force feedback are reviewed and the practical significance of the modal fraction of strain energy is stressed. The second part explains the concept of active tendon control of trusses; the similarity of this concept with the previous one is pointed out. The third part describes an active damping generic interface based on a Stewart platform architecture with piezoelectric legs. The similarity with the previous concepts is emphasized. Finally, the damping of microvibrations is briefly discussed.Chapter 11SCOPUS: ch.binfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Acute myocardial infarction in early postpartum

    No full text
We present a case of acute anterior myocardial infarction in a breastfeeding woman, 10 days after delivery. The presumed cause was proximal left anterior artery vasospasm, induced by a combination of smoking a fi rst cigarette in the early morning and salbutamol inhalation, in the particular context of peripartum. We discuss briefl y the epidemiology, pathophysiology, risk factors, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of myocardial infarction related to pregnancy and the postpartum period.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
