How to ensure technical and operational interoperability for seamless cross boarder train movements - Arising challenges for the expanding European Train Control System (ETCS)

    No full text
The consolidation of the European Train Control System (ETCS) of the European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS) produced different versions that are used for certain lines in the European countryside. This contribution will highlight issues resulting from the way of implementing routes with ETCS, i.e. paying insufficient attention of its technical and operational interoperability. Further it will be described how to save time and money combining lab tests and field tests as well as how to ensure the technical and operational interoperability with a proper testing methodology and approach

From Requirements to Test Cases - Applying a Functional Hierarchy and Modularity for a better Transparency

    No full text
Test cases of conformity tests cover all desired testable requirements from a system specification. Related requirements mostly are spread over different chapters. This paper presents a new hierarchical approach for the test case generation taking advantage of hierarchical approach differentiating principle, functional and procedural requirements of the system requirements specification for the European Train Control System. Benefits of the approach are more modular and focused test cases, easier to be updated and closer to the structure of the system requirements. First results of the application of the approach during the version change from Baseline 2 to 3 of ETCS are depicted
