Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences, 1999.Includes bibliographical references (p. 69-70).We analyze atmospheric data in order to study the upper tropospheric dynamics in the area of the Asian summer monsoon. We look at summers of four years from 1987 to 1990. The divergent upper tropospheric circulation of the monsoon often adopts the form of a unified large-scale vortex. However, when the vortex becomes elongated enough, so that the flow in most of the area is close to zonal, the vortex usually sheds secondary, or daughter, vortices that then propagate away. Eddy shedding occurs in all four summers that we examined. We use the potential vorticity and Montgomery stream-function fields to document the characteristics of eddy shedding events. In most cases, the daughter cell propagates westward. In the vertical, eddy shedding is confined to the upper troposphere, between 300 and 100 mb. The relationship between lower convergent and upper divergent levels is strong. However, we have not found any simple relationship between eddy shedding and lower-level dynamics.by Jelena M. Consumer Responsibility for Food Safety

    Get PDF
Nowadays, food safety and quality have a key role in maintaining the health of consumer, as the ultimate link in the food chain. Foodborne diseases can be a problem for every individual, but are particularly important to children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. Although food hygiene experts widely accept many cases of foodborne disease occur as a result of improper food handling and preparation by consumers, the consumers themselves are still not aware of this fact. Correct personal hygiene measures are a well known step facilitating reductions in the risk of these diseases. However, actual implementation of personal hygiene and sanitation behaviors at home remains insufficient. The aim of many studies is to assess consumers’ knowledge of food security and to determine whether that knowledge is applied in practice. Such information can be of great help to professionals who deal with education of consumers about food safety, should help promote the principle among consumers that they themselves have a critical role in reducing the risk of foodborne disease

Analiza kvaliteta vode reke Mlave na osnovu vodenih makroinvertebrata

    Get PDF

The objective of this work is to present some characteristics of water supply and drinking water quality of Žiča village. The results of analysis of of water qualty provided by the Kraljevo water supply system to most Žiča residents as well as the quality of mountain water used by fewer residents. The physicochemical and microbiological analysis of raw and desinfected water from the town’s water supply system showed its health safety. The physicochemical and microbiological analysis of mountain water indicated its poorer quality. The microbiological testing of mountain water confirm presence of Escherichia coli and mesophilic bacteria as indicators of faecal contamination. It si recommended that the whole Žiča village be connected to the water supply network of the Kraljevo town to help reduce the risk of waterborne epidemics.U radu su prikazane neke karakteristike vodosnabdevanja i kvalitet vode za piće naselja Žiča tokom 2014. i 2015. godine.

    Growth Anatomy of Croatian Economy

In this paper presented is research on anatomy of growth of Croatian economy in the period 1990-2013. Results of this analysis basically should be understood as a kind of growth diagnostic of Croatian economy. Conventional sources of growth analysis, which measure contribution of different factors of production, is given for growth of GDP and per capita GDP in relevant sub-periods. To get deeper understanding of results provided in this way, authors continue with analysis of sectorial side sources of growth. Further insights are provided by demand side sources of growth. Particular attention is, in that respect, devoted to analysis of net-export, capital formation and final consumption. Brief notions on institutional and other fundamental causes of growth are given as well. Policy recommendations for overcoming existing deadlock and acceleration of economic growth are only briefly discussed in concluding section of the paper
