IT – CAUSE AND RECOVERY TOOL IN THE ECONOMIC CRISIS CONTEXT

    Get PDF
The present paper aims to identify some of the weaknesses in the IT area that have contributed to the current financial crisis. At the same time, the crisis impact over the IT&C industry is analysed. Some case studies are introduced: credit risk evaluation software applications with low performance are one of the main causes for the collapse in the loan market, while investments in software applications for virtual campuses have the potential to contribute to the recovery as they reduce costs. Therefore, the IT&C is presented from two opposite perspectives: a factor that contributed to the on-going economic turmoil and an important tool in the recovery process. In the economic recovery plan designed by the European Union, an important place is dedicated to the investments in IT&C networks, in the Research & Development area or in the development of the global commerce as companies can make profit from every opportunity that appears on the market. Under these circumstances, the authors design a set of performance metrics that are meant to quantify the efficiency of software applications. The concluion is that the existence of performant information systems with high quality metrics and user-friendly interfaces undoubtly leads to an improvement in the economic pressure factors that characterize the crisis.economic crisis, IT, virtual campuses, credit risk evaluation applications, metrics

A Data Envelopment Analysis for Evaluating Romania's Health System

    Get PDF
AbstractHealth Systems’ efficiency is one of the most sensitive topics in Health Economics. Therefore, the importance of how resources are used to provide the maximum satisfaction attainable is crucial. This paper aims to assess the European Health Systems in terms of efficiency. In achieving the goal of the research, a set of relevant variables was selected from Eurostat database. A Data Envelopment Analysis has been applied to evaluate the efficiency of the Health Systems. There were used immunization rate and health expenditures as input variables, and survival rate for adults and tuberculosis rate as output variables. The study emphasizes that Romania has an inefficient Health System and even though the Romanian Health System has known different types of reforms and improvements in the last two decades, certain areas still fall below the European average and the system is still failing to provide proper services to its citizens

3D Modeling of Patrimonium Objectives Using Laser Technology

    Get PDF
This paper aims to present the advantages of using the terrestrial laser scanning technology (TLS) as a method of creating a 3D database and 3D documentation. This state-of-the-art technology is an innovation that has the advantage of acquiring a large amount of data in a short time. This technology together with UAV equipment has the advantage of obtaining a digital terrain model. The creation of 3D patrimony models, archaeological objects and sites in their current state requires specialized equipment, knowledge, and have a powerful methodology capable of digitally capturing and shaping geometric details and fine layout of these sites. Digital recording, documentation and preservation are required because our patrimony (natural, cultural or mixed) suffers from various anthropogenic and/or natural actions (natural disasters, climate change and forgetfulness of human neglect)

    Inflation – Unemployment Dilemma. A Cross-Country Analysis

According to Phillips’ study, there is an inverse link between inflation and unemployment. The major consequence of these imbalances lies in authorities’ ability to correct one of them, usually the unemployment, by influencing the components of the aggregate demand. Phillips' opinion is later countered by Friedman’s principle of currency neutrality. Together with Phelps, Friedman argues that, in the long run, the Phillips curve is vertical and any attempt to lower the unemployment below the natural rate leads to a simultaneous rise in unemployment and inflation. This paper aims to analyze the impact of the economic policy measures on the evolution of inflation and unemployment in the G7 countries, starting from the monetary criticism regarding the inefficiency of monetary impulses. In order to achieve this purpose, the developed econometric analysis tries to identify the existence and the direction of the nexus between variables, both in the short and long term, by using causality and cointegration methods, such as Granger, Granger-Wald and Johansen tests. Our findings support Phillips model on the short run, indicating that there is an inverse link between the inflation rate and the unemployment rate in the G7 states, during the analyzed period. However, on the long run, our results indicate that inflation and unemployment can coexist, fact that allows us to agree with the monetarist theories

    Challenges for China’s Sustainable Growth

    Get PDF
For more than a quarter of a century, China has experienced a significant economic growth. Yet, this rapid growth has brought on many economic, social and environmental challenges, which might negatively influence the future development of the country. The objective of this paper is to analyse the Chinese economic evolution in order to determine if its growth model is sustainable over time. The research methods consisted in an investigation of the specialized literature, which helped us formulate four research hypotheses, and in a statistical analysis of secondary data, which allowed us develop four models, in order to test the hypotheses. The conclusions show that, to sustain the growth rate, China needs to increase its human capital stock, to keep the pace of attracting the foreign investments, to reduce the size of the government, to diminish the public consumption and to invest in the renewable energy, for increasing the energy efficiency.JEL Codes - Q01; I25; F21; Q5

Positive evolution in economic forecasting. Case study: the evolution of a company’s capital

For the economic sciences, mainly for the planning and organization disciplines, the models display a range of varieties.  For the last decades, though, the mathematics-based models seem to be the trend, partly because of their ability to rigorously concentrate the essentials and also to be programmed via the computer-based techniques, thus creating together an unheard of instrument of scientific investigation, a resourceful ‚extension’ of human intelligence. The article herein presents certain medium-term prognosis, via the dynamic modelling, elements of bifurcation theory and the Xpp software.  The case study has been the object of a research contract with the business environment.

Depression and breast cancer; postoperative short-term implications

    Get PDF
Introduction. Pre and postoperative psychological status is an important aspect in patients diagnosed with breast cancer, having a great impact on their quality of life. Considering the high incidence, mortality rate, and the added effect on self-image, breast cancer is considered a major stressor for women worldwide, almost 50% of these experiencing psychological distress. Methods. Our study retrospectively analysed the relationship between preoperative diagnosed depression and the number of medical care days, on patients diagnosed with breast cancer and admitted for surgical treatment in Colțea Clinical Hospital between 2017 and 2018. Results. We had 62 patients scheduled for breast cancer surgery, who had been preoperatively evaluated using psychological tests. Of those patients, 18 had scores indicating significant symptoms of depression (moderate or severe symptoms, HDSR \u3e17). Patients with high HDSR scores needed an 18.4% longer hospitalization than patients without symptoms of depression. They also had 35.4% more ambulatory visits in the month following discharge, and a higher incidence of postoperative complications. Conclusions. There seem to be both physiological and somatic determinants responsible for the need of prolonged medical care, but the mechanisms responsible for these effects remain unclear. Identifying high-risk patients could not only lower the postoperative morbidity, but also increase the therapeutic outcomes

Gender Identity and Pronoun Usage in Standardized Patient Encounters

One of the most common documentation frameworks clinicians use for patient evaluations are Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan, (SOAP) notes. The clinician will usually record medical, family, social, etc. history as “subjective” information. Temperature, blood pressure, lab work, etc. would be considered “objective” information. An evaluation of the patient’s health and possible medical issues would be considered the “assessment,” and their intentions for current and future treatment would be the “plan” within these notes. Trainees often write SOAP notes after completing a standardized patient (SP) encounter—an educational practice used in medical schools to simulate real-world physician-patient interactions in order to develop and assess clinical reasoning skills. A standardized patient is employed to act as a patient, memorizing and reciting previously delineated information provided by medical educators
