A mathematical model of the the Morlaix Estuary has been set up, which provides a knowledge of currents, dispersion and bacterial contamination due to inputs from a sewage treatment plant (STP). Measured die-off rates appear very low (T90 from two days to several days). The model confirms these values and shows that physical dilution factors are responsible for a bacterial contamination decrease about one hundred times faster than mortality. The model is then used to seek ways of improving the present situation. It concludes that the best choice would be to increase the STP efficiency
