ABOUT BELGRADE’S CONTEMPORARY HODONYMS OF ANTHROPONYMIC ORIGIN
Starija verzija ovoga rada sa naslovom With regards to the structure and semantics of contemporary Serbian hodonyms izložena je na XXIV međunarodnom onomastičkom kongresu Names in daily life (XXIV International Congress of Onomastic Sciencies)
održanom u Barseloni između 5. i 9. septembra 2011. godine. This paper analyzes the most important structural and semantic features of contemporary
hodonyms (street names) of anthroponymic origin in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. Structural analysis showed that the majority of hodonyms are noun phrases with the noun street
in the center and incongruent attribute expressed with possessive genitive of anthroponym. The most important results of motivationally-semantic analysis can be summarized as
follows: (a) the biggest number of analyzed hodonyms is ideologically motivated by
preserving memories of pre-war members of the Communist movement and the Partisan
movement during World War II, (b) a large number of hodonyms is motivated by preserving
the memory of the famous people from Serbian and world culture (writers, scientists and
artists) and the famous people from Serbian medieval and modern history, (c) only a few
hodonyms of anthroponymic origin with real motivation (streets named after people or
families who are living or lived in the area where the street was established) were recorded.Publishe
Serbian Early Printed Books: Towards Generic Model for Automatic Text Recognition using Transkribus
The paper describes the process of creating and evaluating a new version of the generic model for automatic text recognition of Serbian Church Slavonic printed books within the Transkribus software platform, based on the principles of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The generic model Dionisio 2.0. was created on the materials of Serbian Church Slavonic books from various printing houses of the 15th and 16thcenturies (Cetinje, Venice, Goražde, Mileševa, Gračanica, Belgrade and Mrkša’s Church), and, during the evaluation of its performance, it was noticed that CER was about 2–3%. The Dionisio 2.0. model will be publicly available to all users of the Transkribus software platform in the near future.Publishe
NEGATIVE CONCORD IN OLD SERBIAN
This paper explores the most important syntactic, semantic and pragmatic features of the
structures with negative concord in Old Serbian. The basic aims of the paper are the following: (a)
to describe the state of the use of these constructions in Old Serbian in the 12th‒15th century; (b) to
compare the results with the state in standard Serbian in order to determine the presence/absence of
the syntactic change; (c) to compare the results with the state of other Slavic languages (especially
Old Church Slavonic, Old Czech and Old Russian) in order to determine the Proto-Slavic situation
and precisely define the chronology of the development in individual Slavic languages. The research
revealed two types of structures with the negative concord in the Old Serbian corpus: (a) type NegQ
+ Neg V (negated universal quantifier with the absence of the predicate negation), found only in
monastery charters, or more precisely in those parts of the charters that were written in Serbian
Church Slavonic, represents a syntactic Grecism inherited from Old Church Slavonic and as such
can be considered a feature of a higher style of the Serbian Church Slavonic language; (b) type
NegQ + Neg V (negated universal quantifier and negated predicate), used in Serbian Church Slavonic contexts only in some exceptions, represents a syntactic pattern inherited from the ProtoSlavic language and can be considered a feature of a lower style in the Serbian Church Slavonic
language of the charters that were investigated. The isolation of the type NegQ + Neg V only in the
Serbian Church Slavonic parts of the monastery charters leads to the following conclusions: (a) the
comparison of Old Serbian and contemporary standard Serbian indicates the absence of the syntactic change, i.e. a continuity in the development; consequently, (b) Old Serbian, just like standard
Serbian, belongs to the type of languages with a consistent negative concord; and finally, (c) the
previous two conclusions imply that the Proto-Slavic situation needs to be redefined, as well as the
development of this linguistic feature in Slavic languages.Publishe
Оцифровка кириллических рукописей для исторического словаря сербского языка с использованием технологии распознавания рукописного текста
The paper explores the possibilities of using information technologies based on the principles of machine learning and artificial intelligence in the process of digitizing Cyrillic manuscripts for the purposes of creating a historical dictionary of the Serbian language. Empirical research is based on the use of the Transkribus software platform in the creation of a model for automatic text recognition of the manuscripts by Gavril Stefanović Venclović, the most significant and prolific Serbian cultural enthusiast of the 18th century, whose extensive manuscript legacy in Serbian vernacular represents the most significant primary source for the historical dictionary of the Serbian language of this period. Following the results of conducted research, it can be concluded that the process of digitizing Cyrillic manuscripts for the purposes of creating a historical dictionary of the Serbian language can be significantly accelerated using Transkribus by creating specific and generic models for automatic text recognition. The advantage of automatic text recognition compared to the traditional methods is particularly reflected in the possibility of continuous improvement of the performance of specific and generic models in accordance with the progress of the transcription process and the increase in the amount of digitized text that can be used to train a new version of the model. ON THE GRAPHICS AND ORTHOGRAPHY IN THE LETTERS OF AHMET-PASHA HERZEGOVICH
The paper investigates the most important graphic and orthographic traits of the six original letters Ahmet-Pasha Herzegovich wrote and sent to Dubrovnik at the end of 15th and in the early 16th centuries. The research is primarily aimed at determining the extent of the presence of the most important graphic and orthographic features of the Western (Bosnia-Hum) and the Eastern (Ras and Resava) provenance, as well as the Latin and Ottoman influences in the given aspect of those letters. The research carried out points to a considerable degree of variation both in individual letters and in specific graphic and orthographic features. The comparison of the graphics and the orthography of the examined letters with the Sultan’s acts of the Serbian Office of the Ottoman Porte (especially with the letters of the Sultan Bayezid II ) indicate a general match in the most important features but also point to a few differences: the separation of consonant clusters with a special character within or at the end of the word, the doubling of graphemes for the /o/ vowel and marking the vowel-like /r/ with a symbol indicating a semi-vowel nature of the given grapheme or by using the grapheme in front of .Publishe
Srpski jezik i njegove normePublishe
