    PRODUCTION AND PROFIT OF QUAIL FARMING AS AN ALTERNATIVE INCOME. The demand for livestock products every year had increased, so it needs to be balanced with its availability. Local poultry including quail can be developed to support self-sufficiency in providing food sources of animal protein. Quail had the prospect of being developed considering the city of Manado as a foreign tourist destination and its population tends to increase. Youth of Ulil Albab Mosque as a group that had introduced the quail farming business. The problem was the extent to which the success of the quail livestock business introduced by the Youth Group of Ulil Albab Mosque. This study was conducted with the aim of knowing the production and profit of quail farming as source of alternative income. The research method was survey method, the sample was determined purposively. The data collected were primary and secondary data. Respondents were youth group of the Ulil Albab Mosque on the Unsrat Campus determined by purposive sampling of 4 people. The data analysis was descriptive. The success of quail business depends on the characteristics of the group members. The business was developed as many as 200 heads with egg production increasing every day. Egg marketing was through online. Quail egg consumers were housewives. Purchases of eggs were made for consumption by family members. In conclusion, egg production of quail business of the Ulil Albab Mosque Youth group increased and the profits obtained were positive with R/C value of 1.38 Suggestion, it is necessary to expand the business so that the maximum consumption of quail eggs can be increased

    Optical Lattice Induced Light Shifts in an Yb Atomic Clock

    We present an experimental study of the lattice induced light shifts on the 1S_0-3P_0 optical clock transition (v_clock~518 THz) in neutral ytterbium. The ``magic'' frequency, v_magic, for the 174Yb isotope was determined to be 394 799 475(35)MHz, which leads to a first order light shift uncertainty of 0.38 Hz on the 518 THz clock transition. Also investigated were the hyperpolarizability shifts due to the nearby 6s6p 3P_0 - 6s8p 3P_0, 6s8p 3P_2, and 6s5f 3F_2 two-photon resonances at 759.708 nm, 754.23 nm, and 764.95 nm respectively. By tuning the lattice frequency over the two-photon resonances and measuring the corresponding clock transition shifts, the hyperpolarizability shift was estimated to be 170(33) mHz for a linear polarized, 50 uK deep, lattice at the magic wavelength. In addition, we have confirmed that a circularly polarized lattice eliminates the J=0 - J=0 two-photon resonance. These results indicate that the differential polarizability and hyperpolarizability frequency shift uncertainties in a Yb lattice clock could be held to well below 10^-17.Comment: Accepted to PR

    CARCASS QUALITY OF BROILER FED RATION CONTAINING COFFEE (Coffea sp) HUSK WASTE PRODUCT TREATED BY SIMPLE PROCESSING AND SUBSTITUTING PARTS OF CORN WITH DIFFERENT LEVELS. The aim of this research  was to know coffee husk waste product treated by simple processing and substituting parts of corn on body weight, carcass percentage and weight of abdominal fat Study was applied at Faculty of Animal Science, Sam Ratulangi University during 35 days. Total of 144 day old chick unsexed broilers, strain of CP 707, involving 36 experimental units of battery pens were used in this study. Each unit of pen was filled 4 birds under completely randomized design on factorial patter of 3x4. Factor A was focused on three processing treatments including coffee husk heated under sun light (A1), coffee husk immersed in the water (A2), and coffee husk boiled under water (A3). Factor B was focused on four treatments of substitution levels including ration containing corn without coffee husk substitution (B0), ration containing corn substituted with 25% coffee husk (B1), ration  containing corn substituted with 50% coffee husk (B2), ration  containing corn substituted with 75% coffee husk (B3). Variables observed were including final body weight, carcass weight percentage and abdominal fat weight. Analysis of variance showed that interaction of processing treatments did not affect significantly on final body weight, carcass weight percentage and abdominal fat weight. This study showed that utilization of coffee husk waste product by above simple processing could substitute part of corn in ration of 25% - 75% producing high carcass quality of broiler. Key word: Coffee husk by product, corn, broiler carcass percentag

This study indicated that simple processing of coffee husk were not affected the carcass percentages of broiler. The substitution levels significantly affected carcass percentage of broiler. Percentages of thigh, wing, breast and back part were 28.92%-30.98%, 10.38%-12.68%, 35.10%-38.55% and 19,68%-22,71%, respectively.     TYPES AND POPULATION OF FLY ON BEEF CATTLE AROUND TOLOK VILLAGE AT TOMPASO DISTRICT OF MINAHASA REGENCY. The Study was conducted to evaluate types and population of fly on beef cattle around Tolok village at Tompaso district of Minahasa regency. Observation was applied during a month involving sixteen beef cattle. Flies were cached using insect net one time on every two weeks. Collections of flies were conducted three times and types of fly were also identified including their population. Results of observation showed that there were three types fly on beef cattle including Haematobia exigua, Stomoxys Calcitrans and Musca domestica. The population of these flies were Haematobia exigua of 94.43 individuals, Stomoxys Calcitrans of 10.49 individuals and Musca domestica of 7.74 individuals. The dominant fly during collection at Tolok village was type of Haematobia exigua. Key words: Fly population, dominating fly type, beef cattle

    THE EFFECT OF SKIN WASTE COFFEE SIMPLE PROCESSING COFFEE WASTE WITH CORN SUBTITUTION LEVELS ON THE APPEARANCE OF CHICKEN PRODUCTION. The study aims to determine the extent of the effect of coffee skin waste in the ration on the appearance of broiler production. Chicken strain used by CP. 707 aged 1 day as many as 144 tails using a completely randomized design (CRD) factorial pattern 3 x 4 where, factor A1 is the skin of the sun dried, A2 soaked and A3 boiled. Meanwhile, Factor B is 4 levels of coffee skin substitution for corn where, B0 = 0%, B1 = 25%, B2 = 50%, B3 = 75% with each treatment of 3 replications. The results of the diversity analysis showed that, the interaction between coffee skin (A) drying, soaking, boiling with substitution level (B) had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on ration consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion. Meanwhile, different results are shown by the level of substitution (B) which gives a different effect (P <0.05) on body weight gain. ration consumption, feed conversion, i.e. portion of ration consumption 1014.18% - 125.47%, weight gain 25.13% - 54.95%, and ration conversion 2.28% - 2.55%. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the coffee skin can replace some of the corn with the best replacement at the level of 25% in all processing methods.Keywords: Broiler, coffee skin waste, feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion

    Daya dukung pastura alam dalam pemenuhan kebutuhan nutrien Sapi lokal di Kabupaten bolaang Mongondow Utara

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi daya dukung pastura alam dalam pemenuhan kebutuhan nutrien sapi lokal di Kabupaten Bolaang Mongondow Utara. Materi yang dijadikan objek pengamatan langsung adalah ternak sapi lokal yang dipelihara menurut kearifan lokal, dan pastura alam, yang ditentukan secara acak di 3 (tiga) willayah kecamatan sebagai representasi dari seluruh wilayah, sebagai sumber data primer. Data sekunder diperoleh dari instansi terkait di wilayah penelitian, juga referensi dan hasil penelitian terdahulu. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif komparatif dengan pendekatan secara kuantitatif, dan selanjutnya melakukan komparasi dengan hasil penelitian dan rekomendasi yang diperoleh dari sumber-sumber artikel, jurnal penelitian yang terpercaya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, bahwa jenis-jenis hijauan pakan yang tumbuh sebar di wilayah penelitian, umumnya dikonsumsi oleh sapi-sapi lokal didominasi jenis rumput, sekalipun terdapat beberapi jenis-jenis legume rambat dan legume pohon, juga hasil-hasil sisa pertanian, seperti jerami padi dan jrami jagung. Berdasrkan luas penggunaan lahan yang tersebar di 6 (enam) kecamatan, antara lain: padang rumput alam, tegal/kebun, perkebunan, irigasi /sawah, luas panen padi sawah dan luas panen jagung, masing-masing luasan memberi kontribusi terhadap produksi bahan kering (BK) hijauan, dengan total produksi 127.513 ton per tahun. Daya dukung wilayah terhadap hidup dan produksi ternak sapi (kapasitas tampung ternak sapi) berdasarkan produksi hijauan dari luas penggunaan lahan adalah sebesar 55.441 satuan ternak (ST) per tahun.     Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hasil penerapan teknologi inseminasi buatan (IB) pada ternak sapi potong yang berlokasi di Kecamatan Sangkub. Materi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu sapi potong milik petani peternak di beberapa desa yang memiliki jumlah ternak sapi terbanyak di Kecamatan Sangkub Kabupaten Bolaang Mongondow Utara. Pemilihan sampel desa ditentukan secara sengaja (purposive) dengan pertimbangan tertentu, dan desa yang memiliki populasi ternak sapi potong terbanyak yaitu desa Sidodadi, Desa Monompia, dan Desa Pangkusa. Pemilihan responden peternak sapi potong menggunakan metode Simple Random Sampling karena pengambilan sampel anggota populasi dilakukan secara acak tanpa memperhatikan strata yang ada dalam populasi.  Metode pengambilan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode survei, dengan pengumpulan data primer dan sekunder. Analisis data mengenai variabel yang diteliti menggunakan analisis deskriptif dengan mengacu pada model pengukuran setiap variabel.  Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa evaluasi hasil penerapan teknologi inseminasi buatan pada ternak sapi potong di Kecamatan Sangkub, diperoleh service per conception (S/C) sebesar 1,41, conception rate (CR) 58,33%, dan calving interval (CI) yaitu 377,5 hari.  Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah hasil inseminasi buatan (IB) pada sapi potong di Kecamatan Sangkub menghasilkan conseption rate (CR) rendah, dan calving interval (CI) Panjang.Kata  kunci :  Inseminasi buatan  (IB),  sapi potong, performans reproduks

    DAILY BEHAVIOUR OF SULAWESI BEAR CUSCUS (Ailurops ursinus) IN TANGKOKO BATU ANGUS NATURE RESERVE. This study aimed to describe dailly behaviour of Sulawesi Bear Cuscus (Ailurops ursinus) in Tangkoko Batu Angus Nature Reserve. This reseach is expected to provide information about inactive, foraging, intake, groom and social behavior of  Ailurops ursinus as primary behavior variables of the animal daily activities. The usie of vegetation during animal daily activities were introducted in this research as a secondary variable. This research used obsevation as research  method and instantinous animal sampling technique. This method observed Ailurops ursinus behavior three times per day . Each single observe was done in 60 minutes with 60 seconds time interval. Every single observe was replicated 14 times. The result of this research showed that the daily behaviour of Ailurops ursinus was dominated by inactive behaviour with 56.86 percents consisted of 30.5 minutes were spent in the morning, 42.6 minutes at noon and 29.2 minutes in the afternoon. Intake behaviour took times of 26.98 percents consisted of 17.2 minutes were spent in the morning, 8 minutes at noon and 23.3 minutes in the afternoon. The foraging behaviour took times of 15.11 percents consisted of 11.7 minutes were spent in the morning, 8.7 minutes at noon and 6.6 minutes in the afternoon. Groom activity spent times of 0.98% consisted of 0.5 minutes spent  in the morning, 0.5 minutes at noon and 0.7 minutes in the afternoon.     Frequency evaluation of the doubly forbidden 1S0→3P0^1S_0\to ^3P_0 transition in bosonic 174^{174}Yb

    We report an uncertainty evaluation of an optical lattice clock based on the 1S0↔3P0^1S_0\leftrightarrow^3P_0 transition in the bosonic isotope 174^{174}Yb by use of magnetically induced spectroscopy. The absolute frequency of the 1S0↔3P0^1S_0\leftrightarrow^3P_0 transition has been determined through comparisons with optical and microwave standards at NIST. The weighted mean of the evaluations is ν\nu(174^{174}Yb)=518 294 025 309 217.8(0.9) Hz. The uncertainty due to systematic effects has been reduced to less than 0.8 Hz, which represents 1.5×10−151.5\times10^{-15} in fractional frequency.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure -Submitted to PRA Rapid Communication
