Blood filling and flow in lungs during change in body position in space
In the horizontal position (supine and lateral), in the upright position (head up and head down) and during change of the cat body position in space, quantitative responses of regional blood volume and blood flow in the lungs (ml/100 cu cm) revealed presence of the gradient in the gravitation direction. Blood volume and blood flow of different lung portions changed qualitatively and quantitatively in different ways. These changes occurred only in the direction producing the equality of regional hydrostatical and hemodynamic loads in the lungs at either horizontal level
Saturation effect for dependence of the electrical conductivity of planar oriented nematic liquid crystal 6CB on the concentration of Cu7PS6 nanoparticles
The influence of Cu7PS6 nanoparticles with the average size 117 nm on the dielectric properties of planar oriented nematic liquid crystal 6CB has been investigated within the frequency range 10(1) ...10(6) Hz and at the temperature 293 K. It has been shown that when changing the concentration of nanoparticles within the range 0 to 1 wt.%, the conductivity of the liquid crystal changes stronger than its dielectric permittivity. It has been shown that the electrical conductivity increases monotonously with increasing the concentration of nanoparticles. However, for this dependence a saturation effect is observed. Spectroscopic signatures of magnetospheric accretion in Herbig Ae/Be stars. I. The case of HD101412
Models of magnetically-driven accretion and outflows reproduce many
observational properties of T Tauri stars. This concept is not well established
for the more massive Herbig Ae/Be stars. We intend to examine the
magnetospheric accretion in Herbig Ae/Be stars and search for rotational
modulation using spectroscopic signatures, in this first paper concentrating on
the well-studied Herbig Ae star HD101412. We used near-infrared spectroscopic
observations of the magnetic Herbig Ae star HD101412 to test the magnetospheric
character of its accretion disk/star interaction. We reduced and analyzed 30
spectra of HD101412, acquired with the CRIRES and X-shooter spectrographs
installed at the VLT (ESO, Chile). The spectroscopic analysis was based on the
He I lambda 10,830 and Pa gamma lines, formed in the accretion region. We found
that the temporal behavior of these diagnostic lines in the near-infrared
spectra of HD101412 can be explained by rotational modulation of line profiles
generated by accreting gas with a period P = 20.53+-1.68 d. The discovery of
this period, about half of the magnetic rotation period P_m = 42.076 d
previously determined from measurements of the mean longitudinal magnetic
field, indicates that the accreted matter falls onto the star in regions close
to the magnetic poles intersecting the line-of-sight two times during the
rotation cycle. We intend to apply this method to a larger sample of Herbig

Spectropolarimetry of the H-alpha line in Herbig Ae/Be stars
Using the HiVIS spectropolarimeter built for the Haleakala 3.7m AEOS
telescope, we have obtained a large number of high precision spectropolarimetrc
observations (284) of Herbig AeBe stars collected over 53 nights totaling more
than 300 hours of observing. Our sample of five HAeBe stars: AB Aurigae,
MWC480, MWC120, MWC158 and HD58647, all show systematic variations in the
linear polarization amplitude and direction as a function of time and
wavelength near the H-alpha line. In all our stars, the H-alpha line profiles
show evidence of an intervening disk or outflowing wind, evidenced by strong
emission with an absorptive component. The linear polarization varies by 0.2%
to 1.5% with the change typically centered in the absorptive part of the line
profile. These observations are inconsistent with a simple disk-scattering
model or a depolarization model which produce polarization changes centered on
the emmissive core. We speculate that polarized absorption via optical pumping
of the intervening gas may be the cause.Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ Letter
Weak Magnetic Fields in Two Herbig Ae Systems: The SB2 AK Sco and the Presumed Binary HD 95881
We report the detection of weak mean longitudinal magnetic fields in the
Herbig Ae double-lined spectroscopic binary AK Sco and in the presumed
spectroscopic Herbig Ae binary HD95881 using observations with the High
Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher polarimeter (HARPSpol) attached to the
European Southern Observatory's (ESO's) 3.6m telescope. Employing a multi-line
singular value decomposition (SVD) method, we detect a mean longitudinal
magnetic field =-83+-31G in the secondary component of AK Sco on one
occasion. For HD95881, we measure =-93+-25G and =105+-29G at two
different observing epochs. For all the detections the false alarm probability
is smaller than 10^-5. For AK Sco system, we discover that accretion diagnostic
Na I doublet lines and photospheric lines show intensity variations over the
observing nights. The double-lined spectral appearance of HD95881 is presented
here for the first time
Characterising the magnetic fields of the Herbig Ae/Be stars HD97048, HD150193, HD176386, and MWC480
Our knowledge of the presence and the role of magnetic fields in
intermediate-mass pre-main-sequence stars remains very poor.
We present the magnetic properties of four Herbig Ae/Be stars that have not
been previously studied in detail.
Our results for the three Herbig Ae/Be stars HD97048, HD150193, and HD176386
are based on multi-epoch low-resolution spectra obtained in spectropolarimetric
mode with FORS2 mounted on the VLT. New high-resolution polarimetric spectra
were obtained for MWC480 with the SOFIN spectrograph installed at the Nordic
Optical Telescope. We discuss 41 FORS2 low-resolution observations of the
Herbig Ae/Be stars HD97048, HD150193, and HD176386 and determine their
rotational periods. Using stellar fundamental parameters and the longitudinal
magnetic field phase curves, we place constraints on the magnetic field
geometry. Three high-resolution circularly polarised SOFIN spectra obtained for
MWC480 were measured using the moment technique where wavelength shifts between
right- and left-hand side circularly polarised spectra are interpreted in terms
of a longitudinal magnetic field .
Our search for periodicities resulted in P=0.693d for HD97048, P=1.317d for
HD150193, and P=0.899d for HD176386. The magnetic field geometry can likely be
described by a centred dipole with a polar magnetic field strength B_d of
several hundred Gauss. The longitudinal magnetic-field measurements of MWC480
reveal the presence of a strong kG field, which was undetected in our previous
low-resolution polarimetric observations with FORS1. A weak magnetic field was
detected in the circumstellar components of the Ca II H&K lines and the Na I D
lines, indicating a complex interaction between the stellar magnetic field and

The polarization effects of radiation from magnetized envelopes and extended accretion structures
The results of numerical calculations of linear polarization from magnetized
spherical optically thick and optically thin envelopes are presented. We give
the methods how to distinguish magnetized optically thin envelopes from
optically thick ones using observed spectral distributions of the polarization
degree and the positional angle. The results of numerical calculations are used
for analysis of polarimetric observations of OB and WR stars, X-ray binaries
with black hole candidates (Cyg X-1, SS 433) and supernovae. The developed
method allows to estimate magnetic field strength for the objects mentioned
