    Factors Influencing Feedback Receptivity

    Get PDF
Current methods in assessing a person’s receptivity to feedback are inherently biased. First, these methods are founded upon differing assumptions about feedback availability. Feedback seeking, operationalized as effort toward acquiring feedback, assumes feedback must be actively sought, also thus assumes feedback is not imminent. Feedback avoidance, operationalized as effort toward delaying or avoid receipt of feedback, assumes feedback must be actively avoided, and thus also assumes feedback is imminent. Second, implicit in the methods’ definitions of effort toward or away from feedback is the assumption that feedback receptivity results from a motivated state rather than being influenced by default feedback availability. This research provides a more comprehensive account of feedback receptivity by systematically varying both motivations and feedback availability and examining their relative effects on receptivity. The data supported the influence of motivated factors on receptivity but failed to support the influence of defaulted feedback availability on receptivity. Further, coping resources, perceived utility, and perceived feedback recommendation influenced receptivity. These results may help managers leverage this knowledge to maximize feedback receptivity behaviors in the workplace

    Get PDF
Established in Nantes beginning in 1780, and stakeholder in the family business of naval construction for the State, Mahurian Crucy left an autobiography entitled L’Exorde, detailing his formative years, his activities in the service of the city, and his participation in the company of the L. Crucy brothers until their bankruptcy, and the resulting dissensions with his family at the end of the Empire. This highly personal document is indispensable for probing the private life of one of the personalities at the center of the naval war of the Revolution and the Empire. In addition to retailing his criticisms of his brothers and the successive revolutionary governments from 1793 onwards, L’Exorde affords an original approach to the understanding of the operation of naval shipyards

In the 18th Century, the mainspring of French sea power was based on the naval dockyards. And yet, these industrial and port complexes were obviously subjected to an infinite number of temporal restraints that were difficult to reconcile with one another. Moreover, these temporalities didn’t intermingle simply at all because of the maritime reforms of the 18th century since they set more complicated schedules on the dockyards and considerably increased the reaction time of these military structures
