    Optimization methods modeling and simulation of production systems

    The use of the modelling and simulation method in improving production systems is presented. In the analysed example, two stages were distinguished: creation of the simulation model and optimization. The second stage is illustrated by the practical examples of the use of different optimization methods like the orthogonal plan of Taguchi and fuzzy control. By using simulation connected with optimization, it is possible to check almost all admissible variants of the proposed improvements comparatively quickly in order to evaluate them and to choose the best solution

    Improvement of production processes by searching and increasing of the production system constraints with utilization of the modelling and simulation method

    There is presented the practical application example of the theory of constraints, in the paper. In all enterprises from engineering industry, the main problem connected with realization of production orders are the constraint existing in every production system. Searching and increasing of the bottleneck (constraint) should be the first step in situation, when exist necessity to increase production. There are described principles and stages of the production system improvement, which are based on the mentioned above theory. In the paper, there is demonstrated that the computer simulation is very useful aiding tool for finding constraints and facilitating the analysis of different proposed changes in production systems

    Comprehensive approach to the inventory control system improvement

    This paper describes a methodology for inventory analysis and reduction, which was developed at the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Zilina. The methodology describes the optimal procedure for the application of basic analytical methods and tools in practice. The results of the analysis are in the algorithm linked to the subsequent actions realized to improve inventory management system and to minimize inventory level in the company. Described procedure is the result of methodology examination and verification in practical conditions of production enterprises. In the following sections of this paper, there are presented a comprehensive approach to the inventory analysis and the own algorithm, which contains 3 phases: inventory analysis on enterprise level, summary analysis of individual item groups and individual analysis of material items. In the last section, there are described examples of results from such analysis and conclusions. The presented approach is an attempt to create a universal procedure of analysis which integrates methods and tools described in various publications

    Evaluation of proposals improvements in production

    Market is demanding for competing organizations in present days. Present management of enterprises has to be on high level and have to be one step ahead of the competition. This is reason to introduce modern management philosophies which can improve different processes. One of the good method which brings savings is Kaizen. This management tool is focused on continuous improvements. There are described two improvements in this paper. First one shows how to reduce cost of breakdowns. Second improvement shows how (without any investment) reduce cycle time and thus save about 4 700€ per shift. There is proposed “evaluation form of improvements” in this paper, which helps to estimate profitability of investments. This calculation can be made for improvements in areas such as breakdowns, scrap or cycle time. This small form helps to quick calculate cost savings from improvements. During implementation of the following tools (e.g. TPM, SMED), there are determined different activities, which improve production processes. These activities should be analyzed using proposed evaluation form to calculate savings

    This paper describes an algorithm of dynamic inventory control system for large numbers of material items with continuous non-stationary demand. It uses principles of pull inventory control systems, statistical inventory analysis and joint replenishment inventory systems. This algorithm was processed in software module (VBA for Excel) and applied in practice. The target of described algorithm is to keep an optimum inventory level and optimum customer service level in terms of inventory control of items with non-stationary demand

    In the paper, there is presented the practical application of the modelling and simulation in managing and planning of machines' setup. There are described principles and stages of the production system improvement with the theory of constraints (TOC) and illustrated by the example of analysis of the whole production line, which aim was the bottleneck determining, and the analysis of operations, which are realized in the bottleneck. Main attention in this analyse was focused on the problem of the production setup. Exchange of tools and reconversion of production devices on the production of other product are non value added activities. It means activities, which we should limit. There is presented, that with use of simulation it is possible to check different variants of possible ways of machines' setup and to choose the best process run for realization.W artykule przedstawiono praktyczne zastosowanie modelowania i symulacji w zarządzaniu i planowaniu przezbrojeń maszyn. Opisano zasady oraz etapy doskonalenia systemu produkcyjnego zgodne z teorią ograniczeń. Zilustrowano je praktycznym przykładem analizy linii produkcyjnej, której celem było ustalenie jej wąskiego gardła oraz szczegółowa analiza czynności wykonywanych na zidentyfikowanym ograniczającym stanowisku - wąskim gardle procesu. Główną uwagę zwrócono na problem przezbrojeń linii produkcyjnych. Wymiana narzędzi i przestawienie urządzeń na produkcję innego wyrobu jest działaniem niedodającym wartości, a więc takim, które należy ograniczać. Za pomocą symulacji można sprawdzić różne warianty sposobów przezbrojeń i wybrać do realizacji najlepszy
