A possible way to relate the "covariantization" and the negative dimensional integration methods in the light cone gauge

    Get PDF
In this work we present a possible way to relate the method of covariantizing the gauge dependent pole and the negative dimensional integration method for computing Feynman integrals pertinent to the light-cone gauge fields. Both techniques are applicable to the algebraic light-cone gauge and dispense with prescriptions to treat the characteristic poles.Comment: 9 page

Inscriptions apparatus according latour and woolgar: working with materiality in documents

    Get PDF
In this essay, we seek out a way to work in documents using the interface of “inscriptors” concept, which was developed by the anthropologist Bruno Latour and the sociologist Steve Woolgar when both were starting their studies within the so called Actor-Network Theory. The “inscriptors” have the responsibility to “fabricate” things that are being investigated (maps, graphs, photos, etc.). As an example of documents seen in this framework we point out the dictionaries that express and construct language, which we understand as a practice. Thus, documents as the dictionary propagate ways of daily life that goes beyond the compilation of vocabulary once it creates possibilities of interpretation and visibility thatexpress practices of power. Therefore, documents must be analyzed as “tools of inscription” built in shared articulation, networks. Documents are materialized as much as by the agencies that grant them existence, as by the agencies that produce them

Nowadays with the advancement of technology and its wide availability, information has been digitally generated, whether documents, photos, videos created by people or data files generated by electronic devices. This creates a huge amount of available data, which causes a burden when it comes to accessing to information and relating different pieces of data. This dissertation aims to create an online repository that is capable of storing any type of digital file and associating information to them, both automatically and manually, so that they are found more easily.

Decades of constant wars have produced millions of military personnel returning home after their stints protecting their country. Though many of these military members are able to fully reintegrate into society, a significant minority return with psychical and psychological difficulties. Included in this vast list of difficulties is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This disorder is particularly endemic to military populations, and although numerous treatment modalities are available to veterans with PTSD, they are not all effective for every individual. Thus, numerous grassroots and private organizations have been working to pair veterans with service dogs for the treatment of PTSD. Despite mainly anecdotal evidence claiming the positive effects of pairing veterans with PTSD with service dogs, it is highly suggestible that these service dogs can provide substantial benefits for veterans. In the current research design, a survey was devised to gauge the attitudes and beliefs of veterans with PTSD toward their service dogs. The preliminary results of the current research strongly suggest that veterans with PTSD are strongly in favor of their service dogs, and are claiming that their service dogs are helping ameliorate their symptoms of PTSD.https://scholarworks.sjsu.edu/lrsp/1002/thumbnail.jp

Evaluation of the surrender and the minimum guaranteed rate of return options in life insurance products

    Get PDF
This paper aims to value a Guaranteed Investment Contract (GIC), offered by insurance companies, with a minimum rate of return and an option to surrender the contract (surrender option) at any time before the maturity date. The valuation framework uses a set of different models to value each one of these two options included on a GIC contract commercialized by a Portuguese financial group. We estimate that the surrender option value is around 1.18 percent of the net premium and that the value for the minimum guaranteed rate of return option varies between 0 an 7 percent, according to the used model.N/

From Secret War to Cold War: Race, Catholicism, and the Un-Making of Counterrevolutionary Mexico, 1917-1946

This dissertation examines the rise and fall of Catholic women’s opposition to the secularizing efforts and seemingly progressive gender and racial politics of the Mexican Revolution of 1910 and its nascent state apparatus. Through rigorous discursive analyses of state and Catholic print media published between 1917 and 1946, it traces middle- and upper-class women’s ideological production and argues that their counterrevolutionary religious movement was both driven and un-made by gendered constructions of whiteness. The first half of this dissertation (Chapters 1-3) analyzes the Mexican Church-state conflict prior to 1930 as a transnational struggle between two racialized and competing forms of historical subjectivity, meaning-making, and world being—namely, religion (Catholicism) and secular “Revolution.” The second half of this work (Chapter 4-6) examines institutional development during the 1930s and 40s, demonstrating how Catholic women’s groups and state institutions’ lingering distrust of working-class mobilization gave way to their gradual convergence under hegemonic national discourses of mixed-race identity designed to subdue indigenous actors

Equity valuation of an insurance company : insights from Zurich Insurance Group

Mestrado Bolonha em FinançasZurich Insurance Group is a Swiss insurance company founded 150 years ago and currently one of the most known insurers in the world present in more than 200 countries. The group is listed on SIX Swiss Exchange and has Life and non-Life insurance services with the two biggest segments being Property & Casualty and Life. The present document consists of an Equity Research Report on the group and was drafted according with the guidelines from the CFA Institute. Zurich’s main valuation is performed through a Discounted Dividend Model (DDM) and complemented with a Residual Income Valuation as well as a Relative Valuation. These methods were chosen due to the industry’s particularities. This report issues a HOLD recommendation with a price target of CHF 434,38 with an upside potential of 5,02% with medium risk. All valuations are based on Zurich’s performance from 2018 to 2022 and the forecasted period from 2023 to 2032. The HOLD recommendation derives mainly from the group’s early focus on sustainability, the recent gain in North America and Asia-Pacific’s market share, the slow growth in EMEA and their strong resilience through pandemic years and the recent Ukraine-Russia conflict. The medium risk is mainly justified by the industry’s risk (natural and human-made catastrophes and their potential losses are unpredictable) and the group’s ability to gain market share in underdeveloped regions and maintain their performance in developed regions.O grupo Zurich Insurance é uma seguradora suíça fundada há 150 anos e atualmente uma das seguradoras mais conhecidas do mundo, presente em mais de 200 países.

    Get PDF
In this essay we approach some clues of research that move at the interface between Social Psychology and Ethology, discussing responsive relationships with animals from the contributions of Vinciane Despret. We argue that to be apart of the emerging social psychology of aspects critical in Latin America after the 1970s crisis, ethology has become not to evolutionary social psychologists interested in the study of the agency not restricted to human. What practices can bring the Ethology for Social Psychologies? Which derive stories (re)encounter between the animal studies in this field translated and placed under other questions by the Social Psychologies? From a body in movement, employed as psychosocial research method, we have testimony of production which is beyond survival through pairing elements and paired opposites that lead the body to resistance limits, the limits of the human borders
