CONTENTS OF THE BOOK From the original research for the knowledge and evaluation of family prevention programs in the five European countries we decided to enrich our study with different contributions in this field. Thus, some researchers have contributed to the organization of this book, having participated in the elaboration of some chapters. In the first chapter a description and a socio-historical framework of the evolution of the prevention concept are made. Throughout the years we have been learning how to better define and interpret the true meaning of drug use primary prevention. From the information to prevention as science a long way has been covered in a short period of time. In the second chapter we mention and describe all the existing theoretical models. We remind you that only some time ago preventive interventions were performed according to the idea that information on drugs was necessary and sufficient to avoid youngsters using them. The prevention models give support and frame the different preventive interventions, justifying the options made. In the third chapter, and based on the wider and deeper knowledge on protective and risk factors, we present the prevention strategies more often used. We also describe the preventive programs mentioned in the three areas we highlighted: Family – School – Community. In Chapter 4, after the definition of our research aims, we present the grids used in the reading of the selected projects in the five countries. They are two distinct grids that help us to understand the different levels of preventive intervention: a) one, which we call Level I grid, that refers to all the preventive interventions socalled occasional; b) Level II grid, which mentions long time actions with a theoretical framework. We also present and discuss the obtained data. In the fifth chapter we present the contribution of three of our researchers, approaching several themes. Professor Boyer, bearing in mind the results of IREFREA’s research (Mendes & Relvas et al, 1999) develops the issue of religion/spirituality as a protective factor. Dr. Susanna Pietralunga describes the preventive activities in family context and their evolution, from the Italian reality. Professor Paula Relvas approaches the family life cycle: a framework for primary prevention of drug use. In Chapter 7 the conclusions of our work are presented and a series of orientations are suggested, taking into account future preventive activities in family context

Tungsten oxide nanowires grown on amorphous-like tungsten films

Tungsten oxide nanowires have been synthesized by vacuum annealing in the range 500-710 °C from amorphous-like tungsten films, deposited on a Si(100) substrate by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) in the presence of a He background pressure. The oxygen required for the nanowires formation is already adsorbed in the W matrix before annealing, its amount depending on deposition parameters. Nanowire crystalline phase and stoichiometry depend on annealing temperature, ranging from W18O49-Magneli phase to monoclinic WO3. Sufficiently long annealing induces the formation of micrometer-long nanowires, up to 3.6 μm with an aspect ratio up to 90. Oxide nanowire growth appears to be triggered by the crystallization of the underlying amorphous W film, promoting their synthesis at low temperatures

Pandemic and right to university study in prison

The article n°34 of the Italian Constitution establishes that the school is open to all, without any reference to the personal conditions of the student that can be deprived of his freedom. This right to education is inviolable. The education is an es- sential element to reach the re-educational function of the sentence. The article n°17 of the Norms for the Penitentiary Sy- stem establishes the important role of the in the external community and of private and public subjects to help in re-educating and re-socializing prisoners. In normal conditions there are often contradictions between the principle and the reality of prison condition so in a condition of crisis such as the covid-19 pandemic there is a high risk to break important achievements in this part. Our article starts from thoughts on the right to study in prison and on the history of Criminology’s attention to the treatment of the offender and from studies on the sector of sentence execution. Then our article presents the results of surveys carried out by the National Conference of Delegates of Rectors for the Prison University Centers at the prison facilities where they are established, during the Coronavirus Pandemic

Origin of femtosecond laser induced periodic nanostructure on diamond

    Get PDF
We study the evolution of periodic nanostructures formed on the surface of diamond by femtosecond laser irradiation delivering 230 fs pulses at 1030 nm and 515 nm wavelengths with a repetition rate of 250 kHz. Using scanning electron microscopy, we observe a change in the periodicity of the nanostructures by varying the number of pulses overlapping in the laser focal volume. We simulate the evolution of the period of the high spatial frequency laser induced periodic surface structures at the two wavelengths as a function of number of pulses, accounting for the change in the optical properties of diamond via a generalized plasmonic model. We propose a hypothesis that describes the origin of the nanostructures and the principal role of plasmonic excitation in their formation during multipulse femtosecond laser irradiation

Quantum technologies in diamond enabled by laser processing

Integrated photonic circuits promise to be foundational for applications in quantum information and sensing technologies, through their ability to confine and manipulate light. A key role in such technologies may be played by spin-active quantum emitters, which can be used to store quantum information or as sensitive probes of the local environment. A leading candidate is the negatively charged nitrogen vacancy (NV−) diamond color center, whose ground spin state can be optically read out, exhibiting long (≈1 ms) coherence times at room temperature. These properties have driven research toward the integration of photonic circuits in the bulk of diamond with the development of techniques allowing fabrication of optical waveguides. In particular, femtosecond laser writing has emerged as a powerful technique, capable of writing light guiding structures with 3D configurations as well as creating NV complexes. In this Perspective, the physical mechanisms behind laser fabrication in diamond will be reviewed. The properties of waveguides, single- and ensemble-NV centers, will be analyzed, together with the possibility to combine such structures in integrated photonic devices, which can find direct application in quantum information and sensing

La medicina legale di fronte all'esperienza del morire

    No full text

Optical absorption enhancement in thin Si films induced by 2D periodic patterns of metallic nanodisks is discussed. The critical dimensions and conditions for spectrally resonant enhancement are evaluated. In case of SOI films, absorption peaks can exceed 450%
