Can a pseudo-symmetry solve the cosmological constant problem?
A general no-go theorem dampens hope that the cosmological constant problem
can be solved by a local symmetry mechanism. The possibility is considered here
that this no-go theorem can be avoided by a pseudo-symmetry. A simple
macroscopic effective field theory is constructed which admits an enhanced
pseudo-symmetry in the absence of a cosmological term. It is pointed out that
this pseudo-symmetry is an exact classical invariance of superstrings. The
conjecture that this pseudo-symmetry survives in the quantum theory has several

Neutralino Dark Matter from MSSM Flat Directions in light of WMAP Result
The minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) has a truly supersymmetric
way to explain both the baryon asymmetry and cold dark matter in the present
Universe, that is, ``Affleck-Dine baryo/DM-genesis.'' The associated late-time
decay of Q-balls directly connects the origins of the baryon asymmetry and dark
matter, and also predicts a specific nature of the LSP. In this paper, we
investigate the prospects for indirect detection of these dark matter
candidates observing high energy neutrino flux from the Sun, and hard positron
flux from the halo. We also update the previous analysis of the direct
detection in hep-ph/0205044 by implementing the recent result from WMAP

Non-thermal dark matter via Affleck-Dine baryogenesis and its detection possibility
The formation and late time decays of Q-balls are generic consequences of the
Affleck-Dine (AD) baryogenesis. A substantial amount of the lightest
supersymmetry (SUSY) particles (LSPs) are produced non-thermally as the decay
products of these Q-balls. This requires a significantly large annihilation
cross section of the LSP so as not to overclose the universe, which predicts a
higgsino- or wino-like LSP instead of the standard bino LSP. We have reexamined
the AD baryogenesis with special attention to the late-time decays of the
Q-balls, and then specified the parameter regions where the LSPs produced by
the Q-ball decays result in a cosmologically interesting mass density of dark
matter by adopting several SUSY breaking models. This reveals new
cosmologically interesting parameter regions, which have not attracted much
attention so far. We have also investigated the prospects of direct and
indirect detection of these dark matter candidates, and found that there is an
intriguing possibility to detect them in various next generation dark matter

Inhibition of CDK1 by RO-3306 Exhibits Anti-Tumorigenic Effects in Ovarian Cancer Cells and a Transgenic Mouse Model of Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is the deadliest gynecological malignancy of the reproductive organs in the United States. Cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) is an important cell cycle regulatory protein that specifically controls the G2/M phase transition of the cell cycle. RO-3306 is a selective, ATP-competitive, and cell-permeable CDK1 inhibitor that shows potent anti-tumor activity in multiple pre-clinical models. In this study, we investigated the effect of CDK1 expression on the prognosis of patients with ovarian cancer and the anti-tumorigenic effect of RO-3306 in both ovarian cancer cell lines and a genetically engineered mouse model of high-grade serous ovarian cancer (KpB model). In 147 patients with epithelial ovarian cancer, the overexpression of CDK1 was significantly associated with poor prognosis compared with a low expression group. RO-3306 significantly inhibited cellular proliferation, induced apoptosis, caused cellular stress, and reduced cell migration. The treatment of KpB mice with RO-3306 for four weeks showed a significant decrease in tumor weight under obese and lean conditions without obvious side effects. Overall, our results demonstrate that the inhibition of CDK1 activity by RO-3306 effectively reduces cell proliferation and tumor growth, providing biological evidence for future clinical trials of CDK1 inhibitors in ovarian cancer
The semiology of changing brand image
This article considers the attempted change to the image of an established brand by studying the semiotics within the brand’s historical advertising campaigns. The use of semiotics to study the interpretation of messages is discussed, and the link between interpretation of messages and advertising effectiveness in changing brand image is explored. The authors deconstruct advertisements of a brand to provide a model containing opposing dialectics that may aid managers by highlighting alternative symbolic messages contained in advertisements. Oncwe identified, these alternative symbolic messages may be used to help change brand image and influence advertising effectiveness. Although the study focuses upon a major brand of beer, this is an industry in which there are numerous small firms, and many of those have constrained marketing budgets, and thus need to make sure that their advertising is effective. Equally, entrepreneurial marketing is not to found only in the small firm, and the case study discusses a radical and imaginative brand repositioning of a well established product
Diving into the vertical dimension of elasmobranch movement ecology
Knowledge of the three-dimensional movement patterns of elasmobranchs is vital to understand their ecological roles and exposure to anthropogenic pressures. To date, comparative studies among species at global scales have mostly focused on horizontal movements. Our study addresses the knowledge gap of vertical movements by compiling the first global synthesis of vertical habitat use by elasmobranchs from data obtained by deployment of 989 biotelemetry tags on 38 elasmobranch species. Elasmobranchs displayed high intra- and interspecific variability in vertical movement patterns. Substantial vertical overlap was observed for many epipelagic elasmobranchs, indicating an increased likelihood to display spatial overlap, biologically interact, and share similar risk to anthropogenic threats that vary on a vertical gradient. We highlight the critical next steps toward incorporating vertical movement into global management and monitoring strategies for elasmobranchs, emphasizing the need to address geographic and taxonomic biases in deployments and to concurrently consider both horizontal and vertical movements
Application of a risk-management framework for integration of stromal tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in clinical trials
Stromal tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (sTILs) are a potential predictive biomarker for immunotherapy response in metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). To incorporate sTILs into clinical trials and diagnostics, reliable assessment is essential. In this review, we propose a new concept, namely the implementation of a risk-management framework that enables the use of sTILs as a stratification factor in clinical trials. We present the design of a biomarker risk-mitigation workflow that can be applied to any biomarker incorporation in clinical trials. We demonstrate the implementation of this concept using sTILs as an integral biomarker in a single-center phase II immunotherapy trial for metastatic TNBC (TONIC trial, NCT02499367), using this workflow to mitigate risks of suboptimal inclusion of sTILs in this specific trial. In this review, we demonstrate that a web-based scoring platform can mitigate potential risk factors when including sTILs in clinical trials, and we argue that this framework can be applied for any future biomarker-driven clinical trial setting
Collider aspects of flavour physics at high Q
This review presents flavour related issues in the production and decays of
heavy states at LHC, both from the experimental side and from the theoretical
side. We review top quark physics and discuss flavour aspects of several
extensions of the Standard Model, such as supersymmetry, little Higgs model or
models with extra dimensions. This includes discovery aspects as well as
measurement of several properties of these heavy states. We also present public
