This thesis is concerned with the application of computer-aided design to classical control theory. In classical control theory, much of the effort of control system design is concerned with the generation of charts for such aspects as time response, root locus and frequency response characteristics. These charts are time consuming to prepare by hand, even though short cut techniques are often available to obtain sketches which closely approximate the actual characteristics. A digital computer is able to assist in these conventional design procedures by generating the appropriate charts for inspection by the designer, thereby taking much of the manual effort out of the design processes. This thesis describes the development of an interactive design package. Software for computer-aided control system design has been programmed to operate, via a visual display terminal, in an online interactive mode. The control designer, using the terminal console, is able to specify certain designs and evaluate their effectiveness in terms of the various graphical analyses produced by the computer and displayed on the screen of the terminal

Osteogenesis activity of fractions extracted from Clinacanthus nutans (Burm. F.) Lindau

    Get PDF
Osteogenesis activity of fractions extracted from Clinacanthus nutans was evaluated on an in vitro model using osteoblast MC3T3-E1 cells. The results showed that all fractions, including ethanol (EtOH), n-hexane, ethyl acetate (EtOAc) and butanol (BuOH) were not significantly toxic to the osteoblast cells at the test concentrations of 5, 10, 25, and 50 Āµg/mL. The EtOH and EtOAc fractions exhibited the highest osteogenesis activity in terms of enhancement of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and mineralization activity of MC3T3-E1 cells, especially the EtOAc fraction which increased ALP activity up to 30% and mineralization activity up to 100%. Thus, the EtOAc fraction shows osteogenesis activity through stimulating activites of the two markers for bone generation including ALP and mineralization in osteoblast cells. The fraction is now under extensive investigation to isolate and fully understand the modes of action of the active compounds.Ā

USING BENTHOS TO EVALUATE THE QUALITY OF MARINE ENVIRONMENT: CASE STUDY FROM CENTRAL VIETNAM AFTER THE INCIDENT CAUSED BY FORMOSA

    Get PDF
In this study, we evaluated the quality of marine environment in central Vietnam after the disaster caused by Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation (Formosa), using both bio-indicators (benthos) and chemical indicators. Results show that using benthic fauna, especially meio-benthos can obtain data on the quality of marine environment faster and more accurate than using chemical indicators. In marine environment, monitoring contaminated areas and contamination sources is difficult since currents are normally strong, contaminants often move fast and far away from the sources. For the reasons, using benthos as indicator to localize the contaminated areas as well as assess the quality of marine environment can be an effective method. However, this indicator cannot help to identify the exact contaminants and using this requires a comprehensive knowledge on sea bottom topography, sedimentary characteristics, sea currents, biological competition, etc

This paper investigates the role of personality traits in nurturing entrepreneurial intention in South Korea and Vietnam. We developed a research model to examine the integrated influence of both positive entrepreneurial characteristics and dark triad on entrepreneurial intention in South Korea and Vietnam. Primary data was collected from 550 students in South Korea and 700 students in Vietnam using the convenient sampling method in a self-administered questionnaire survey. We used structural equation modelling (SEM) to analyse structural relationships between positive entrepreneurial attributes, dark triads, and entrepreneurial intention in two samples. T-tests were also performed to explore any differences in studentsā€™ entrepreneurial intention in South Korea and Vietnam regarding their family background and gender. Findings showed that positive entrepreneurial attributes and dark triads influence entrepreneurial intention differently in the two countries. While the dark triad mainly influenced Vietnamese studentsā€™ intention to startup, Korean students received more impact from the positive entrepreneurial characteristics such as risk tolerance, locus of control, and entrepreneurial alertness. Surprisingly, both gender and family tradition do not affect studentsā€™ entrepreneurial intention. Based on our findings, we suggested that policymakers and higher education institutions in both South Korea and Vietnam promote studentsā€™ entrepreneurial intentions in the future.

Impact of Foreign Direct Investment on Economic Restructuring in Bac Ninh

    Get PDF
In recent years, foreign direct investment (FDI) has played an important role in Bac Ninhā€™s economic restructuring. Of all provinces, Bac Ninh has always been leading the way for attracting foreign investment in Vietnam. The goal of this article is to study the relationship between FDI and the structure of economy of Bac Ninh. We use Ordinary Least Squares regression (OLS) to analyze the influence of the provinceā€™s FDI on its economic restructuring over the period from 2009 to 2019. The result partly shows that the FDI has had a strong impact on Bac Ninhā€™s economic restructuring in both speed and quality. Through these findings, we propose several recommendations for the local authorities to continue to attract the FDI and reinforce the positive impacts of the FDI on the provinceā€™s economic restructuring in the future. BMF CP70: Exploring the climate change-related factors constraining stakeholdersā€™ willingness to protect the ocean

    Get PDF
The current study is conducted to examine the following research questions: - Do perceptions that mitigate climate change risk (e.g., developing technology to help address climate change) reduce stakeholdersā€™ willingness to protect the ocean? - Do perceptions of the costs associated with combating climate change (e.g., the belief that responding to climate change will harm economies and societies that are already actively addressing the issue) reduce stakeholdersā€™ willingness to protect the ocean? The findings from this study are expected to provide insights into how perceptions of climate change mitigation and cost beliefs influence stakeholdersā€™ willingness to protect the ocean. This information can inform targeted strategies for policymakers and conservationists to enhance support for marine protection and build the eco-surplus culture in the face of climate change challenges

We investigated the genetic variation of Cunninghamia lanceolata var. konishii, on basis of eight ISSR markers. Samples from 182 trees of four populations in the Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces were included in this study. The ISSR data showed low genetic variability at both population and species level, with an average of 0.1025 and 0.1357, respectively. Genetic differentiation among populations was high (Gst = 0.2554) indicating limited gene flow (Nm = 1.4575). The implication of the results from the study to conserve genetic resources of the species was proposed
