Extrapunitive and intropunitive anger of HIV caregivers: Nursing implications
The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate the anger of individuals who have provided direct patient care to loved ones who are living with or who have died from AIDS. The sample consisted of eight individuals who are currently involved in an AIDS service organization in northeast Tennessee. Data were collected using semistructured taped interviews. At the beginning of the study, two group interviews were conducted. Subsequently, each of the participants was interviewed privately. Extrapunitive and intropunitive anger were predominant themes in each of the interviews. Participants also reported ways of coping with their anger. Nurses can suggest these strategies to other caregivers who are experiencing anger. Recommendations for additional nursing interventions are offered
Macrostructural analysis : unravelling polyphase glacitectonic histories
Many Pleistocene glacial profiles look extremely simple, comprising till, or glacitectonite, overlying
older sediments or bedrock (Figure 4.1). In more complex sequences the till may itself be overlain by
younger sediments laid down as the ice retreated or during a completely separate, later phase of
advance. Macroscopically, subglacial traction tills (Evans et al., 2007) are typically massive,
unstructured deposits suggesting that it should be relatively straightforward to unravel the
glacitectonic deformation history recorded by the sequence. Many reconstructions do indeed look
very simple, slabs of sediment have been tilted and stacked and then overridden by the glacier to
cap the structure with till. Added to this is the use of vertical exaggeration which makes the whole
structure look like alpine tectonics (for an example see fig. 5 in van Gijssel, 1987). Dropping the
exaggeration led to the recognition that actually we were looking at much more horizontal
structures, i.e. overriding nappes and not imbricated slabs (van der Wateren, 1987).
Traditionally (van der Meer, 1987) glaciotectonics was thought to relate to large structures
like big push moraines and not to smaller structures like drag structures underneath tills (Figure 4.2),
let alone to the tills themselves. With the notion that deforming bed tills are tectonically and not
sedimentologically structured and could be regarded as tectomicts (Menzies et al., 2006), comes the
realisation that glacitectonics happens across a wide range of scales, from the microscopic to tens of
kilometres. Only by realising the full range of glaciotectonic scales can we hope to understand the
processes
Screening current effects in Josephson junction arrays
The purpose of this work is to compare the dynamics of arrays of Josephson
junctions in presence of magnetic field in two different frameworks: the so
called XY frustrated model with no self inductance and an approach that takes
into account the screening currents (considering self inductances only). We
show that while for a range of parameters the simpler model is sufficiently
accurate, in a region of the parameter space solutions arise that are not

Insulin Response Genes in Different Stages of Periodontal Disease
Bacterial infections are known to alter glucose metabolism within tissues via mechanisms of inflammation. We conducted this study to examine whether insulin response genes are differentially expressed in gingival tissues, comparing samples from experimental gingivitis and periodontitis subjects to those from healthy individuals. Total RNA was extracted from gingival biopsies from 26 participants: 8 periodontally healthy, 9 experimental gingivitis, and 9 periodontitis subjects. Gene expression patterns were evaluated with a polymerase chain reaction array panel to examine 84 candidate genes involved with glucose metabolism, insulin resistance, and obesity. Array data were evaluated with a t test adjusted by the false discover rate (P < 0.05), and ingenuity pathway analysis was performed for statistical testing of pathways. Although tissue samples were not sufficient to enable protein quantification, we confirmed the upregulation of the key gene using lipopolysaccharide-stimulated primary gingival epithelial cells by Western blot. The mRNA expression patterns of genes that are associated with insulin response and glucose metabolism are markedly different in experimental gingivitis subjects compared with healthy controls. Thirty-two genes are upregulated significantly by at least 2-fold, adjusted for false discover rate (P < 0.05). Periodontitis subjects show similar but attenuated changes in gene expression patterns, and no genes meet the significance criteria. Ingenuity pathway analysis demonstrates significant activation of the carbohydrate metabolism network in experimental gingivitis but not in periodontitis. G6PD protein increases in response to lipopolysaccharide stimulation in primary gingival epithelial cells, which is in the same direction as upregulated mRNA in tissues. Acute gingival inflammation may be associated with tissue metabolism changes, but these changes are not evident in chronic periodontitis. This study suggests that acute gingival inflammation may induce localized changes that modify tissue insulin/glucose metabolism
Fluctuations of an evaporating black hole from back reaction of its Hawking radiation: Questioning a premise in earlier work
This paper delineates the first steps in a systematic quantitative study of
the spacetime fluctuations induced by quantum fields in an evaporating black
hole. We explain how the stochastic gravity formalism can be a useful tool for
that purpose within a low-energy effective field theory approach to quantum
gravity. As an explicit example we apply it to the study of the
spherically-symmetric sector of metric perturbations around an evaporating
black hole background geometry. For macroscopic black holes we find that those
fluctuations grow and eventually become important when considering sufficiently
long periods of time (of the order of the evaporation time), but well before
the Planckian regime is reached. In addition, the assumption of a simple
correlation between the fluctuations of the energy flux crossing the horizon
and far from it, which was made in earlier work on spherically-symmetric
induced fluctuations, is carefully analyzed and found to be invalid. Our
analysis suggests the existence of an infinite amplitude for the fluctuations
of the horizon as a three-dimensional hypersurface. We emphasize the need for
understanding and designing operational ways of probing quantum metric

Row-switched states in two-dimensional underdamped Josephson junction arrays
When magnetic flux moves across layered or granular superconductor
structures, the passage of vortices can take place along channels which develop
finite voltage, while the rest of the material remains in the zero-voltage
state. We present analytical studies of an example of such mixed dynamics: the
row-switched (RS) states in underdamped two-dimensional Josephson arrays,
driven by a uniform DC current under external magnetic field but neglecting
self-fields. The governing equations are cast into a compact
differential-algebraic system which describes the dynamics of an assembly of
Josephson oscillators coupled through the mesh current. We carry out a formal
perturbation expansion, and obtain the DC and AC spatial distributions of the
junction phases and induced circulating currents. We also estimate the interval
of the driving current in which a given RS state is stable. All these
analytical predictions compare well with our numerics. We then combine these
results to deduce the parameter region (in the damping coefficient versus

Isotope Effect for the Penetration Depth in Superconductors
We show that various factors can lead to an isotopic dependence of the
penetration depth . Non-adiabaticity (Jahn-Teller crossing) leads to
the isotope effect of the charge carrier concentration and, consequently,
of in doped superconductors such as the cuprates. A general equation
relating the isotope coefficients of and of is presented for
London superconductors. We further show that the presence of magnetic
impurities or a proximity contact also lead to an isotopic dependence of
; the isotope coefficient turns out to be temperature dependent,
, in these cases. The existence of the isotope effect for the
penetration depth is predicted for conventional as well as for high-temperature

The feasibility of milkfish (Chanos chanos) aquaculture in Solomon Islands
Fish is crucial to food and nutrition security in Solomon Islands, and demand is expected to increase due to a growing population. However, it is projected that current capture fisheries production will not meet this growing demand. Aquaculture has the potential to mitigate the capture fishery shortfall, and the Government of Solomon Islands is prioritizing aquaculture as a solution to meet future food and income needs. Aquaculture in Solomon Islands is still in early development. Mozambique tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) is farmed for household consumption, but its prolific reproductive rate and resulting slow growth limit its potential as a commercial aquaculture species. More productive fish species that are not indigenous to Solomon Islands but are successfully farmed overseas could be introduced; however, such a decision needs to take into account the potential ecological or social impacts. For land-based pond aquaculture, the only indigenous species that has been farmed extensively elsewhere is milkfish (Chanos chanos). This report presents a feasibility assessment for milkfish farming in Solomon Islands. It synthesizes the current knowledge about milkfish farming and presents results of a 4-year study on the potential for milkfish aquaculture in Solomon Islands
Asymptotic Expansions for Stationary Distributions of Perturbed Semi-Markov Processes
New algorithms for computing of asymptotic expansions for stationary
distributions of nonlinearly perturbed semi-Markov processes are presented. The
algorithms are based on special techniques of sequential phase space reduction,
which can be applied to processes with asymptotically coupled and uncoupled
