Online Load Balancing for Network Functions Virtualization

Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) aims to support service providers to deploy various services in a more agile and cost-effective way. However, the softwarization and cloudification of network functions can result in severe congestion and low network performance. In this paper, we propose a solution to address this issue. We analyze and solve the online load balancing problem using multipath routing in NFV to optimize network performance in response to the dynamic changes of user demands. In particular, we first formulate the optimization problem of load balancing as a mixed integer linear program for achieving the optimal solution. We then develop the ORBIT algorithm that solves the online load balancing problem. The performance guarantee of ORBIT is analytically proved in comparison with the optimal offline solution. The experiment results on real-world datasets show that ORBIT performs very well for distributing traffic of each service demand across multipaths without knowledge of future demands, especially under high-load conditions

Governance plays a crucial role in most activities of socio-economic life. For any organizations, units, businesses or higher, a country, a community, the role of governance becomes more important than ever. For businesses, with globalization taking place and market becoming more competitive than ever, good Corporate Governance is now considered as a factor of success. Good corporate governance will help the company improve its ability to access to various sources of capital and operate more efficiently. However, in Vietnam particularly, Corporate Governance system still need to enhance and improve. Therefore, with the aim of surveying the current situation of Corporate Governance practices in Vietnam and giving the analysis of its impacts on businesses’ performance, this research is conducted from a sample of 60 listed-companies in both Construction and Food & Beverage industry for the time 2015, 2017 and 2018. By using the tool of ASEAN balanced scorecard to evaluate Vietnam Corporate Governance practices on 05 aspects: Rights of shareholders, Equitable treatment of shareholders, Roles of stakeholders, Disclosure and transparency and Board duties and responsibilities, the paper came to the low results of companies’ Corporate Governance practices in Vietnam. Based on this method, different relationships were found, one of which is the positive relationship between Corporate Governance Index and Tobin’s Q. Family is a cell of society, the first social institution contributing a fairly decisive part to build personality of each person. The family’s stability is the premise for the development of a civilized and wealthy society. Family organization exists and changes with the existence and change of the social life. Over the last years, Vietnamese society have seen vigorous changes in many aspects thereby Vietnamese family is in transition from traditional family to modern one. This article focuses on clarifying the concept of family, traditional Vietnamese family, features of traditional Vietnamese family, especially pointing out the changes from traditional Vietnamese family to Vietnamese family today. Key word: Family, Vietnam, tradition, modern, change

Predicting Performances of Mutual Funds using Deep Learning and Ensemble Techniques

Predicting fund performance is beneficial to both investors and fund managers, and yet is a challenging task. In this paper, we have tested whether deep learning models can predict fund performance more accurately than traditional statistical techniques. Fund performance is typically evaluated by the Sharpe ratio, which represents the risk-adjusted performance to ensure meaningful comparability across funds. We calculated the annualised Sharpe ratios based on the monthly returns time series data for more than 600 open-end mutual funds investing in listed large-cap equities in the United States. We find that long short-term memory (LSTM) and gated recurrent units (GRUs) deep learning methods, both trained with modern Bayesian optimization, provide higher accuracy in forecasting funds' Sharpe ratios than traditional statistical ones. An ensemble method, which combines forecasts from LSTM and GRUs, achieves the best performance of all models. There is evidence to say that deep learning and ensembling offer promising solutions in addressing the challenge of fund performance forecasting.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures, 4 table

Changes in lesson plans as teachers participate in a professional development on statistical literacy

Research on mathematics teacher knowledge has gained momentum recently; however, research on teacher planning is scarce, especially using lesson plans as the primary data source. This study examines how teachers' lesson plans change as they participate in a professional development, supporting them in implementing the Vietnamese reformed Curriculum 2018. Using a design-based research methodology, we developed a research-informed framework that assesses teachers' lesson plans for developing students' statistical literacy as emphasized in the mathematics Curriculum. Informed by research literature and data collected from teachers, the framework including seven criteria was shared and used by 61 teachers to reflect on the quality of their lessons. The analysis of 38 lesson plans shows all criteria have improved from pre- to post-lesson plans. The teachers included more explicit and comprehensive learning intentions in their post-lessons. Tasks in the post-lesson plans afforded more opportunities for students to develop statistical literacy, helped them engage in the statistical investigation using real data, and included multiple representations. Finally, the post-lesson plans tended to follow the constructivist teaching principles. Implications on ways to develop teachers' planning competence and suggestions for future studies are included. © 2023 Authors

This paper is devoted  to the study of the relationship between structure and optical properties of silica glasses doped with optically active Er3+ ions and reported the influence of the suitably selected heat treatment on the optical properties of silica glasses. The physico-chemical properties of Er3+doped silica are presented, which has been related with the effects of hydroxyl groups on the luminescence property  of Er3+ in the host matrix of silica

Risk Management at Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank in Vietnam

    Get PDF
This research is conducted for examining the framework for risk management in the Basel II accord, the Basel II risk management model at the Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank. Data were collected from annual reports for the period from 2015 to 2017 of the Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank. The results show that the implementation of risk management under Basel II at Military Bank still faces many difficulties in the pressure of capital increase, database system, human resource quality, and cost of implementation. The study suggest some solutions for Military Bank to implement successfully Basel II, emphasizing the role of human resource quality, modernizing the data system and the specific mechanism for raising capital. The results of this research is a reference for Vietnamese commercial banks in identifying, controlling and responding various risks in banking activities in the context of Vietnam.
