"You can’t corrupt eight million voters": corruption as a topic in Miloš Zeman's populist strategy
This paper can be seen as a contribution to the debate on political populism. More specifically, we focus on the relation between populist strategies and the perception of corruption. The issue of corruption and the fight against it is a part of various political strategies, programs, and rhetoric. In some cases, however, it lingers only on a rhetorical level, and the issue of corruption is used by politicians merely as a tool for gaining political points or to harm political opponents, whom they label "corruptionists". The goal of this paper is to provide an interpretation of the ways in which Czech President Miloš Zeman constructs the issues that are related to the topic of corruption and to interpret how such content figures into the theoretical framework of populism. Methodologically speaking, the text is established as a CAQDAS dataset created by all of Zeman’s speeches, interviews, statements, etc., which were processed using MAXQDA11+ software. This paper shows that the dominant treatment of the topic of corruption by the president is primarily linked to the creation and assignment of delegitimising labels ("corruptionist") to his opponents or the legitimisation of his allies and himself (as "corruption fighter"), which is the quintessence of populist strategies

Surfovánà na migračnà vlně v době populismu: Sekuritizace migrace ze strany poslanců Parlamentu České republiky
The contribution of the following article is based on contribution to current discussion related to political populism. The study is anchored in theoretical approaches to populism and designed as CAQDAS of stenographs of speeches related to the “migration crisis” held by members of the Czech Chamber of Deputies. According to the theory of populism, we derived criteria for measuring populism and those were in the analytical part applied to analyzed data corpus. Main contributions of our study are following: 1. operationalization of analytical possibilities of the concept; 2. using valid and analytically relevant data that are not frequently used; 3. broadening of Czech debate related to populism (by empirically proving, that political party Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) is using very strong populist rhetoric 4. building ground for possible following research od populism in Czech/ European context
“Thanks, America!”: A Dramaturgical Analysis of the Liberation Festival in the “Most American” city in Europe
The following article aims to provide an interpretation of the annual public occasion called the “Liberation Festival” in Pilsen. The Liberation Festival serves as a celebration of the liberation of Pilsen by the U.S. army. Our paper presents a dramaturgical analysis of this occasion. More specifically, our effort is focused on two main interpretative threads. With respect to the first one (called “the production of discourse”) we analyse the processes of the (re)production of political discourse related to this public occasion. We also identify the main discourse that is typically produced or reinforced during the Liberation Festival. The second interpretative thread is called “the organizational line of the Liberation Festival”. Here, we try to provide examples and identify characteristics of the strategies and practices that can be employed by state apparatuses to present themselves as guarantors of the security of festival goers. Our findings confirm that public ceremonies (like the Liberation Festival) can fulfil the role of a medium that serves to spread actual political discourse, the veneration of actual societal normative order, and a positive portrait of state apparatuses. Our article can thus be viewed as a contribution to the debate on the reproduction of political discourse through public spectacles. The following article aims to provide an interpretation of the annual public occasion called the “Liberation Festival” in Pilsen. “How to Sustain National Security”: A Case Study of the Celebrations of the Slovak National Uprising as a Securitization Platform
This paper focuses on the ways in which political actors make use of historical legacies to present their own determination to sustain their country’s national security. We use the example of the annual celebrations of the anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising (SNU) to demonstrate the ways in which similar celebrations can become a platform for political actors to express requests and address their audience. Using semi-participant observation, we have analyzed six years of these celebrations (2015-2020) and the securitizing strategies and moral panic creation strategies contained in the speeches of participating politicians. Our analysis shows that securitization is taking place, and labels of threat sources are being given not only to topics that are naturally linked to the celebrated event, but also topics that are in no way related to SNU. Despite this fact, politicians use the legitimacy of the event to manifest their own attempts at sustaining security
Public Events as Theatrical Performance
In the following article we will utilize dramaturgical analysis to analyse two selected state-organized public events in Slovakia. We contend that public events serve political elites as a tool to manifest their superiority and perform sovereignty, legitimate social hierarchy by constructing an ideological “false consciousness”, and produce social cohesion and solidarity by invoking culturally significant symbols. As the objects of our analysis we selected the commemoration of the Slovak national uprising and the ceremonial unveiling of the sculptures of St. Constantine and Methodius. Both of these events can be defined as celebrations of the Slovak state as well as of the Slovak nation
Makroskopická perspektiva politické filosofie versus mikroskopická perspektiva empirie
The following article focuses on issuesof social justice. This text is divided into two mainparts. In the first one, I am concerned with thecharacteristic of the theory of social justice itselfand with the main theoretical approaches of thistheory – namely with egalitarianism, prioritarianismand (left) libertarianism. The second part isfocused on an analysis of the electoral programsof political parties which were elected into theCzech parliament in the elections of 2010. Themain point of this analysis is to locate and identifyproclamations about social justice which can berelated to theories of social justice. Through thisanalysis I want to demonstrate the possibility oftheories of social justice as a way of explaining thepolitical actions and the relation of political representationto social marginality
