Maize cultivation has many advantages, such as: high yield, strong stability, great potential for increasing yield, strong disaster resistance, wide application range, and high economic benefits. It plays an important role in food production, and it is also due to the growth of animal husbandry and the food processing industry.     The analyse of the antioxidant effect of natural peloidotherapy in aging process

    Medical research has developed remarkably in recent years, including the involvement of the glutathione peroxidase (GPx) family of enzymes in the course of human aging, with numerous clinical studies published in the literature reporting this particular fact. Thus, mud therapy and its effect on biological aging have been represented in papers that have been published to date. Papers published in the literature analyzing GPx vari-ation during sapropelic mud therapy suggest the beneficial effect of this family of en-zymes in diseases with an important inflammatory component, mainly monitored in patients with osteoarthritis. This study investigated the effects of sapropelic mud treat-ment on GPx values in patients receiving treatment with sapropelic mud at the Balneal and Rehabilitation Sanatorium of Techirghiol, Romania. We included 52 patients, split into two groups, who received treatment with cold mud baths and warm mud baths. Values close to statistical significance were found in patients who received treatment with cold mud baths in terms of mean GPx values at the four-time points studied.     Sex difference and intra-operative tidal volume: Insights from the LAS VEGAS study

    BACKGROUND: One key element of lung-protective ventilation is the use of a low tidal volume (VT). A sex difference in use of low tidal volume ventilation (LTVV) has been described in critically ill ICU patients.OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to determine whether a sex difference in use of LTVV also exists in operating room patients, and if present what factors drive this difference.DESIGN, PATIENTS AND SETTING: This is a posthoc analysis of LAS VEGAS, a 1-week worldwide observational study in adults requiring intra-operative ventilation during general anaesthesia for surgery in 146 hospitals in 29 countries.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Women and men were compared with respect to use of LTVV, defined as VT of 8 ml kg-1 or less predicted bodyweight (PBW). A VT was deemed 'default' if the set VT was a round number. A mediation analysis assessed which factors may explain the sex difference in use of LTVV during intra-operative ventilation.RESULTS: This analysis includes 9864 patients, of whom 5425 (55%) were women. A default VT was often set, both in women and men; mode VT was 500 ml. Median [IQR] VT was higher in women than in men (8.6 [7.7 to 9.6] vs. 7.6 [6.8 to 8.4] ml kg-1 PBW, P < 0.001). Compared with men, women were twice as likely not to receive LTVV [68.8 vs. 36.0%; relative risk ratio 2.1 (95% CI 1.9 to 2.1), P < 0.001]. In the mediation analysis, patients' height and actual body weight (ABW) explained 81 and 18% of the sex difference in use of LTVV, respectively; it was not explained by the use of a default VT.CONCLUSION: In this worldwide cohort of patients receiving intra-operative ventilation during general anaesthesia for surgery, women received a higher VT than men during intra-operative ventilation. The risk for a female not to receive LTVV during surgery was double that of males. Height and ABW were the two mediators of the sex difference in use of LTVV.TRIAL REGISTRATION: The study was registered at Clinicaltrials.gov, NCT01601223

    Studiul nostru a inclus 505 de copii spitalizaţi în Spitalul Clinic de Boli Infecţioase Constanţa în 2011-2012 cu gastroenterită cu rotavirus. Am analizat fişele medicale ale pacienţilor şi am extras datele demografice, temperatura, frecvenţa vărsăturilor şi a scaunelor diareice. Am împărţit grupul de cazuri în 4 grupe: asocierea cu infecţii respiratorii (IR) – 160 cazuri, cu infecţii digestive (IDB) – 52 cazuri, boali eruptive (BE) – 11 cazuri şi un grup de infecţii cu rotavirus fără alte asociaţii – 282 de cazuri. S-au constatat diferenţe semnificative între cele patru grupuri în ceea ce priveşte numărul de scaune, numărul de vărsături, valoarea medie a temperaturii maxime, valoarea medie a zilelor de spitalizar

    Open Healing: A Minimally Invasive Protocol with Flapless Ridge Preservation in Implant Patients

    We aimed to validate the safety and efficacy of the minimally invasive “open healing” flapless technique for post-extraction socket and alveolar ridge preservation, while assessing the alveolar bone changes. The study enrolled (n = 104) patients (0.55 sex ratio), with atraumatic extraction of (N = 135) hopeless teeth, followed by either immediate placement of tissue level implants (N1 = 26), or later stage implant insertion (N2 = 109). No flap was raised in either situation. Post-extraction sockets were filled with deproteinized bovine bone granules and covered by collagen resorbable membrane—left purposely exposed during healing. This yielded an uneventful healing, with sufficient bone formation, while avoiding soft-tissue problems. The need for additional augmentation was assessed clinically and by calibrated CBCT scans at six months, before either loading (N1) or implant insertion (N2). Implant success and survival rate were evaluated at 12-, 24-, and 60-month follow-up control sessions. The inserted implants had a survival rate of 98.5% and a success rate of 94.8% at five-year follow-up. Open healing technique with flapless approach can be favorable for preserving the 3D architecture of the post-extraction socket, as well as the alveolar ridge width and height
