Study of the process e+e−→3(π+π−) in the c.m. energy range 1.5–2.0 GeV with the CMD-3 detector
AbstractThe cross section of the process e+e−→3(π+π−) has been measured using a data sample of 22 pb−1 collected with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 e+e− collider. 7956 signal events are selected in the center-of-mass energy range 1.5–2.0 GeV. The measured cross section exhibits a sharp drop near the pp¯ threshold. A first study of dynamics of six-pion production has been performed

Large area spark counter with fine time and position resolution
The key properties of spark counters include their capability of precision timing (at the sub 100 ps level) and of measuring the position of the charged particle to high accuracy. At SLAC we have undertaken a program to develop these devices for use in high energy physics experiments involving large detectors. A spark counter of size 1.2 m x 0.1 m has been constructed and has been operating continuously in our test setup for several months. Some details of its construction and its properties as a particle detector are reported. 14 references. (WHK

Timing performance of spark counters and photon feedback
It was shown experimentally that delayed signals from the spark counters (''tail problem'') could be connected with low gain avalanches. The development of these avalanches is stopped by the anode electrode but they still have a chance to produce a delayed streamer by photon feedback. Good absorption characteristics of the gas mixture at wide photon energy range (starting from a cathode work function up to the X-ray region) and a high cathode work function value reduce the tail.
