A cv.

The WHO AWaRe (Access, Watch, Reserve) antibiotic book and prevention of antimicrobial resistance.
Guidance on the appropriate use of antibiotics for common infections is lacking in many settings. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently released The WHO AWaRe (Access, Watch, Reserve) antibiotic book which complements the WHO Model list of essential medicines and WHO Model list of essential medicines for children. The book gives specific guidance on the empiric use of antibiotics in the model lists with a strong emphasis on the AWaRe framework, which is centred around the risk of antimicrobial resistance development associated with the use of different antibiotics. Recommendations in the book cover 34 common infections in primary and hospital care both for children and adults. The book also includes a section on the use of the last-resort Reserve antibiotics, whose use should be restricted to very selected cases when an infection is confirmed or suspected to be caused by multidrug-resistant pathogens. The book highlights the use of first-line Access antibiotics or no antibiotic care if this is the safest approach for the patient. Here we present the background behind the development of the AWaRe book and the evidence behind its recommendations. We also outline how the book could be used in different settings to help reach the WHO target of increasing the proportion of global consumption of Access antibiotics to at least 60% of total consumption. The guidance in the book will also more broadly contribute to improving universal health coverage
Decoherence, the measurement problem, and interpretations of quantum mechanics
Environment-induced decoherence and superselection have been a subject of
intensive research over the past two decades, yet their implications for the
foundational problems of quantum mechanics, most notably the quantum
measurement problem, have remained a matter of great controversy. This paper is
intended to clarify key features of the decoherence program, including its more
recent results, and to investigate their application and consequences in the
context of the main interpretive approaches of quantum mechanics.Comment: 41 pages. Final published versio
Currents issues in cardiorespiratory care of patients with post-polio syndrome
Post-polio syndrome (PPS) is a condition that affects polio survivors years after recovery from an initial acute attack of the poliomyelitis virus. Most often, polio survivors experience a gradual new weakening in muscles that were previously affected by the polio infection. The actual incidence of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in individuals suffering from PPS is not known. However, there is a reason to suspect that individuals with PPS might be at increased risk. Method: A search for papers was made in the databases Bireme, Scielo and Pubmed with the following keywords: post polio syndrome, cardiorespiratory and rehabilitation in English, French and Spanish languages. Although we targeted only seek current studies on the topic in question, only the relevant (double-blind, randomized-controlled and consensus articles) were considered. Results and Discussion: Certain features of PPS such as generalized fatigue, generalized and specific muscle weakness, joint and/or muscle pain may result in physical inactivity deconditioning obesity and dyslipidemia. Respiratory difficulties are common and may result in hypoxemia. Conclusion: Only when evaluated and treated promptly, somE patients can obtain the full benefits of the use of respiratory muscles aids as far as quality of life is concerned.Ctr Univ Augusto Motta, Programa Posgrad Ciencias Reabilitacao, Rio De Janeiro, RJ, BrazilUniv Severino Sombra, Fac Med, Vassouras, RJ, BrazilUniv Fed Rio de Janeiro, Inst Psiquiatria, Lab Mapeamento Cerebral & EEG, BR-22290140 Rio De Janeiro, RJ, BrazilUniv Fed Fluminense, Hosp Univ Antonio Pedro, Niteroi, RJ, BrazilInst Fed Educ Ciencia & Tecnol Rio de Janeiro, Curso Fisioterapia, Rio De Janeiro, RJ, BrazilUniv Fed Piaui, Parnaiba, PI, BrazilUniv Fed Sao Paulo, Dept Neurol, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Fed Sao Paulo, Dept Neurol, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilWeb of Scienc
Neural processing of criticism and positive comments from relatives in individuals with schizotypal personality traits
Objectives. High negative expressed emotion by family members towards schizophrenia patients increases the risk of subsequent relapse. The study aimed to determine whether individuals with high schizotypy (HS) and low schizotypy (LS) would differ in activation of brain areas involved in cognitive control when listening to relative criticism
