    The regulation of patrimony within civil law systems: from a unitary to a divisional approach in the management of patrimonial assets and its effects on private international law rules

    Private International Law (PIL) does not admit patrimony, usually considered as the totality of the property rights of a person, as an autonomous legal category. Whereas, within civil law systems influenced by Roman Law, at the domestic or internal level, patrimony is a recognised legal concept. But, actually, this unitary vision seems less and less stable owing to the adoption, within said systems, of some types of negotiable instruments that are able to realise different forms of patrimonies. This article intends to underline how civil law systems are gradually affirming a divisional approach about the regulation of patrimony, as traditionally happens at the level of PIL rules. But at the same time, it aims at highlighting how, in particular, by recourse to the use of trusts, it is possible to recover both at the PIL and internal levels a unitary vision

    In the automotive design, nowadays there are two fundamental drivers. On one hand there are the environmental problems, on the other hand there are the safety matters. Within this contest, the weight reduction has become a key driver in the design of vehicles and it is necessary to consider and to study the use of nonconventional materials taking advantage from their high potential of weight reduction and energy absorption capability. In this perspective, the aim of this work is the study of the structural behaviour of box beams by means of a series of three points bending tests. The examined cross sections are those typically used in automotive construction. Different type of materials (steel, composite) and joining technologies (adhesive, spot weld) have been examined, considering different configurations. The work put in evidence the advantages coming from the use of adhesive, which allows structures with important weight reduction and better mechanical properties than traditional joining solution

    The essay presents the personal story of Raissa Orlova as an example of a process performed by different writers, primarily women of Jewish origin in the Soviet Union at the beginning of the \ua020th century. These women no longer have any connection with their ancestors\u2019 religion and try to \ua0replace the faith in the Jewish religion with \ua0the faith in communism, whose god is Stalin. Raissa Orlova is a perfect example of homo sovieticus: she undertakes the \ua0young communist girls\u2019 cursus honorum and \ua0she is totally blind to what is happening around her. \ua0A fundamental step in her path is the attendance of the IFLI, the \ua0"communist school " in Moscow. The veil of illusion falls from her eyes \ua0after the Twentieth Party Congress and the comparison with the European reality: Orlova realizes that she has believed in an idol and begins to trace her own personal past, to contrast the unifying vision of communism . At this stage Orlova rediscovers her Jewish origins and, although not converted to her ancestors\u2019 religion, she finally becomes aware of her \ua0long ignored past.\ua

    A variety of schemas and ontologies are currently used for the machine-readable description of bibliographic entities and citations. This diversity, and the reuse of the same ontology terms with different nuances, generates inconsistencies in data. Adoption of a single data model would facilitate data integration tasks regardless of the data supplier or context application. In this paper we present the OpenCitations Data Model (OCDM), a generic data model for describing bibliographic entities and citations, developed using Semantic Web technologies. We also evaluate the effective reusability of OCDM according to ontology evaluation practices, mention existing users of OCDM, and discuss the use and impact of OCDM in the wider open science community.Comment: ISWC 2020 Conference proceeding

    New threats for pediatric respiratory health: beware of vaping

    Electronic cigarette (EC) was proposed on the market about 15 years ago as a harmless alternative to traditional combustion cigarettes (CC). Since then, EC and other electronic devices that deliver nicotine by simulating traditional smoking without combustion have achieved unexpected success, with around 80 million users worldwide by 2023. Such devices are commonly felt to be safer than CC, especially among adolescents, who are also the main target for aggressive marketing from the tobacco industry. Increasing evidence shows that e-liquids and vape contain toxicants and irritants and that acute and chronic vaping causes airway inflammation and bronchoconstriction and reduces responses to infections. Moreover, some studies have shown that second- and third-hand smoke, as well as in utero exposure, may cause detrimental effects to the airways and to health in general. Notably, the recent E-cigarette or Vaping use-Associated Lung Injury (EVALI) epidemic in the USA has shown that EC has higher acute toxicity than CC, while long-term effects are still not known. Since adolescents and children are often completely unaware of the health risks associated with vaping or of the potential presence of nicotine in e-liquids, pediatricians play a crucial role in educating them, in order to prevent vaping, as well as smoking. Pediatricians should always consider the possibility of vaping as the cause of unusual respiratory diseases, especially in adolescents.     Development of a One-Dimensional Model for the Prediction of Leakage Flows in Regenerative Pumps

    Regenerative pumps are characterized by a low specific speed that place them between rotary positive displacement pumps and purely radial centrifugal pumps. They are interesting for many industrial applications since, for a given flow rate and a specified head, they allow for a reduced size and can operate at a lower rotational speed with respect to purely radial pumps. The complexity of the flow within regenerative machines makes the theoretical performance estimation a challenging task. The prediction of the leakage flow rate between the rotating and the static disks is the one that more than others has an impact on the prediction of global performance. All the classical approaches to the disk clearance problem assume that there is no relevant circumferential pressure gradient. In the present case, the flow develops along the tangential direction and the pressure gradient is intrinsically non-zero. The aim of the present work is to develop a reliable approach for the prediction of leakage flows in regenerative pumps. The method assumes that the flow inside of the disk clearance can be decomposed into several stream-tubes. Energy balance is performed for each tube, thus generating a system that can be solved numerically. The new methodology has been tuned using data obtained from the numerical simulation of virtual prototypes of regenerative pumps where the disk clearance is part of the control volume. After that, the methodology has been integrated into an existing one-dimensional code called DART (developed at the University of Florence in cooperation with Pierburg Pump Technology Italy S.p.A.) and the new algorithm is verified using available experimental and numerical data. It is here demonstrated that an appropriate calibration of the leakage flow model allows for an improved reliability of the one-dimensional code
