Spectroscopy of Po194
Prompt, in-beam Îł rays following the reaction Yb170 + 142 MeV Si28 were measured at the ATLAS facility using 10 Compton-suppressed Ge detectors and the Fragment Mass Analyzer. Transitions in Po194 were identified and placed using Îł-ray singles and coincidence data gated on the mass of the evaporation residues. A level spectrum up to J10 was established. The structure of Po194 is more collective than that observed in the heavier polonium isotopes and indicates that the structure has started to evolve toward the more collective nature expected for deformed nuclei
Conversion electron spectroscopy at the fragment mass analyzer focal plane: Studies of isomeric decays near the proton drip line
The decays of seniority isomers in the N=82 nuclei Er150 and Yb152 and in their respective N=81 isotopes Er149 and Yb151 were studied following mass separation by the Argonne Fragment Mass Analyzer. Conversion electrons were detected with Si p-i-n diodes operated at room temperature. The low-energy isomeric transitions in Yb151,152 have been observed for the first time in the electron spectra. Multipolarity assignments were made for many of the decay rays of the four nuclei
PION ELASTIC SCATTERING FROM POLARIZED 13C IN THE ENERGY REGION OF THE [3, 3] RESONANCE
Analyzing powers, Ay, were measured at the Clinton P. Anderson Meson Physics Facility for Ï+ and Ï- elastic scattering from polarized 13C in the energy region of the [3,3] resonance. The Ay were found to be small in general and, at small momentum transfers, q < 1 fm-1, were reproduced best by a first order optical potential description and standard nuclear wave functions. At large momentum transfer, q â1.8 fm-1, present nuclear structure and Ï-nucleus reaction models do not reproduce the data
