Enhancing the Reliability and Performance of Paper Shredders (semester?), IPRO 321: Manhattan Group Product Design and Perf Eval IPRO 321 Project Plan Sp07
The objective of this team will be to improve safety, performance and evaluate/design an implementation for the reduction of noise emission from the sample of Paper Shredder Prototypes provided to us by “The Manhattan Group”, project sponsor. Another objective of this team is to evaluate the current market offerings and price points and create new industrial designs for a line of paper shredders that could be sold at retail stores such as Staples, Target, or Office Depot. Designs should focus on a new feature or style.Sponsorship: Seth Lewis, President, The Manhattan GroupDeliverables for IPRO 321: Enhancing the Reliability and Performance of Paper Shredders for the Spring 2007 semeste

Design and Economic Evaluations of Biorefinery Operations (semester?), IPRO 347: Eval of Biorefinery IPRO 347 Poster Sp06
The IPRO team was successful in designing a process that converts biomass into liquid fuels for transportation. The biomass chosen was cow manure because of two main reasons. The abundance of cows in southern Wisconsin provides an ideal place for the process to be built. Also, because most other types of potential biomasses currently have uses, manure was favorable. The process was split into three sections: gasification, gas clean-up and Fischer-Tropsch (FT) reactor.Deliverables for IPRO 347: Design and Economic Evaluations of Biorefinery Operations for the spring 2006 semeste

Chicago Sister Cities China: Fuel Cell/Geothermal Sustainable Energy USX Site (Semester Unknown) IPRO 345: Fuel CellGeothermal Sustainable Energy at USX Site IPRO 345 Brochure2 Sp08
A. Create a working software tool that assists in the capacity of planning, decision making and accessing the economic feasibility of implementing an integrated fuel cell technology and geothermal energy system. B. Through a case study approach, research and evaluate the energy needed in residential homes to use as a basis for determining the algorithms employed in the software development. C. Demonstration of the viability of the integrated fuel cell and geothermal system in a specific location through the prototype testing of the database tool. D. Connect an alternative energy source for heating and cooling to the industrial world by providing an efficient way to analyze the design and economic parameters required to implement such an integrated energy system. E. Research on all parameters needed for our project’s implementation including environmental laws and regulations, permits, funding, weather, population, and energy consumption.Deliverable
