This paper describes an example problem for a course in dynamics based on the collapse of a factory chimney. The motion of the chimney is analysed and the point during collapse when the chimney breaks into two parts is predicted. The subsequent motion is calculated allowing the eventual position of bricks originally at the top of the chimney to be estimated. </jats:p
