Study of the topological Hall effect on simple models
Recently, a chirality-driven contribution to the anomalous Hall effect has
been found that is induced by the Berry phase and does not directly involve
spin-orbit coupling. In this paper, we will investigate this effect numerically
in a two-dimensional electron gas with a simple magnetic texture model. Both
the adiabatic and non-adiabatic regimes are studied, including the effect of
disorder. By studying the transition between both regimes the discussion about
the correct adiabaticity criterium in the diffusive limit is clarified.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, revtex
Transverse voltage in high-Tc superconductors in zero magnetic fields
Longitudinal and transverse voltages have been measured in zero external
magnetic fields. In close vicinity of the superconducting transition nonzero
transverse voltage has been observed while far away from Tc, both above and
below no such voltage has been detected. The value of the transverse
resistivity depends on the value of the transport current. Several models have
been discussed taking into account also the penetration of self field due to
the applied transport current. It seems that observed results can be explained
using the Kosterlitz-Thouless model as a result of an unpairing of
vortex-antivortex pairs created below Tkt due to fluctuations. At Tkt free
vortices and antivortices are created and can contribute to a dissipation of
energy. Their movement should also be responsible for the observed nonzero

X-ray photoemission characterization of La_{0.67}(Ca_{x}Sr_{1-x})_{0.33}MnO_{3} films
The Curie temperature and x-ray photoemission spectra of thin films of
La_{0.67}(Ca_{x}Sr_{1-x})_{0.33}MnO_{3} (LCSMO) have been studied as a function
of the Ca/Sr ratio. The films were grown by off-axis cosputtering from
individual targets of La_{0.67}Ca_{0.33}MnO_{3} (LCMO) and
La_{0.67}Sr_{0.33}MnO_{3} (LSMO) onto (100) oriented NdGaO_{3} substrates. The
films grow with a (100) orientation, with no other orientations observed by
x-ray diffraction. For the alloy mixtures, the Curie temperature, T_C, varies
slowly as the Ca/Sr is decreased, remaining 300 K, while for the LCMO
and LSMO films T_C is 260 and 330 K, respectively. The Mn-O valence structure
is composed of two dominant peaks, whose positions undergo a change as the Ca
fraction is decreased. The core lines behave as linear combinations of lines

Keterkaitan New HSK dan Kurikulum Bahasa Mandarin di Perguruan Tinggi
This research is to find out the correlation between the New HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi)/International Mandarin Proficiency Test and the Mandarin Skill Curriculum in higher education in Indonesia, with case study at Chinese Department of Maranatha Christian University Bandung. Methods used in this research are survey and literature studies, with quantitative and qualitative analytic description. The results show that New HSK could be used as achievement tests for students of Chinese Department at each level of study. Besides, New HSK could also be one of measurement tools for curriculum needs analysis, which means that the change of students' achievements in New HSK would decide the adjustments of the Mandarin skill curriculum at whole
Hole and Electron Contributions to the Transport Properties of Ba(Fe_(1-x)Ru_x)_2As_2 Single Crystals
We report a systematic study of structural and transport properties in single
crystals of Ba(Fe_(1-x)Ru_x)_2As_2 for x ranging from 0 to 0.5. The isovalent
substitution of Fe by Ru leads to an increase of the a parameter and a decrease
of the c parameter, resulting in a strong increase of the AsFeAs angle and a
decrease of the As height above the Fe planes. Upon Ru substitution, the
magnetic order is progressively suppressed and superconductivity emerges for x
> 0.15, with an optimal Tc ~ 20K at x = 0.35 and coexistence of magnetism and
superconductivity between these two Ru contents. Moreover, the Hall coefficient
RH which is always negative and decreases with temperature in BaFe2As2, is
found to increase here with decreasing T and even change sign for x > 0.15. For
x_Ru = 0.35, photo-emission studies have shown that the number of holes and
electrons are similar with n_e = n_h ~ 0.11, that is twice larger than found in
BaFe2As2 [1]. Using this estimate, we find that the transport properties of
Ba(Fe_0.65Ru_0.35)_2As_2 can be accounted for by the conventional multiband
description for a compensated semi-metal. In particular, our results show that
the mobility of holes is strongly enhanced upon Ru addition and overcomes that
of electrons at low temperature when x_Ru > 0.15.Comment: new version with minor correction
Chemical aspects related to using recycled geopolymers as aggregates

A recycling scenario is examined in this study. This requires an investigation of alkali leaching potential from a geopolymeric matrix. To study the feasibility of geopolymer cement (GPC) recycling, the migration of alkalis was evaluated for the first time on a microstructural level through energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) scanning electron microscopy (SEM) elemental mapping and leaching tests. Macroscale impacts were assessed through an investigation of Portland cement (PC) mortar properties affected by alkali concentration. Leaching tests indicated that alkalis immediately become available in aqueous environments, but the majority remain chemically or physically bound in the matrix. This type of leaching accelerates the initial setting of PC paste. Elemental mapping and EDX/SEM analysis showed a complex paste-aggregate interfacial transition zone. Exchange of calcium and sodium, revealed by the maps, resulted in the migration of sodium into the PC paste and the formation of additional calcium-silicon-based phases in the geopolymeric matrix. Strength values of mortars with 25% and 50% recycled aggregates (RA) showed negligible differences compared with the reference sample. Screening tests indicated a low potential for GPC RA inducing alkali-silica reaction. Transport of GPC RA alkalis and the underlying mechanisms were observed. This transport phenomenon was found to have minor effects on the properties of the PC mortar, indicating that recycling of geopolymers is a viable reuse practice.Peer reviewedFinal Published versio
Conditional nationally determined contributions in the Paris Agreement: foothold for equity or Achilles heel?
The Paris Agreement’s success depends on parties’ implementation of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) towards the Paris Agreement’s goals. In these climate action plans, most developing countries make their mitigation and adaptation contributions conditional upon receiving international support (finance, technology transfer and/or capacity building). While provision of support for NDC implementation could enhance equity among countries, the feasibility of NDC implementation might be challenged by the large number of conditional NDCs. This paper addresses the implications of this tension based on an analysis of all 168 NDCs. We find that feasibility is challenged because conditions applied to NDCs are often not well defined. Moreover, the costs of implementing all conditional contributions are too high to be covered by existing promises of support from developed countries, even if the entire annual $100 billion of climate finance were earmarked for NDC implementation. Consistent with principles of equity and the prioritization in the Paris Agreement, a higher proportion of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) have conditional NDCs than do other countries. However, differences between the distribution of countries requesting support and those currently receiving support, in particular among middle-income countries, demonstrates potential tensions between feasibility and equity. The article concludes with recommendations on how cost estimates and updated NDCs can be strengthened to ensure support for NDC implementation is targeted more equitably and cost-effectively. Key policy insights -Support requested by developing countries to implement conditional NDCs far exceeds existing funding pledges. -Differences between existing patterns of financial assistance, and those implied by requests under conditional NDCs, mean that supporting NDCs may require a significant shift in provider countries’ priorities for allocating climate finance. This may challenge feasibility. -The Paris Agreement’s provisions on prioritizing LDCs and SIDS offer valuable guidance in making difficult choices on allocating support. -To increase the likelihood of attracting support, developing countries (assisted by capacity building as needed), should include credible cost estimates in future NDCs and formulate investment plans. -By outlining plans to mobilize support in their NDCs, developed countries can reassure developing countries that raising the ambition of NDCs is feasibl
Characterization of transport and magnetic properties in thin film La(0.67)(Ca(x)Sr(1-x))(0.33)MnO(3) mixtures
We have grown thin films of (100) oriented
La_{0.67}(Ca_{x}Sr_{1-x})_{0.33}MnO_{3} on (100) NdGaO_{3} substrates by
off-axis sputtering. We have looked at the changes in the resistivity and
magnetoresistance of the samples as the Ca/Sr ratio was varied. We find that as
the calcium fraction is decreased, the lattice match to the substrate
decreases, and the films become more disordered, as observed in transport
measurements and the variation in Curie and peak resistance temperatures. We
find a correlation between the temperature independent and T^2 terms to the low
temperature resistivity. The room temperature magnetoresistance exhibits a
maximum as the peak temperature is increased by the substitution of Sr for Ca,
and a change in the field dependence to the resistivity at room temperature is

Weak Localization Thickness Measurements of Si:P Delta-Layers
We report on our results for the characterization of Si:P delta-layers grown
by low temperature molecular beam epitaxy. Our data shows that the effective
thickness of a delta-layer can be obtained through a weak localization analysis
of electrical transport measurements performed in perpendicular and parallel
magnetic fields. An estimate of the diffusivity of phosphorous in silicon is
obtained by applying this method to several samples annealed at 850 Celsius for
intervals of zero to 15 minutes. With further refinements, this may prove to be
the most precise method of measuring delta-layer widths developed to date,
including that of Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry analysis
