In the recent decades, in Haiti, a growing propensity to accept new technologies is observed. More than ever, the national market represents a potential advantage, as well as the cheapness of the labor force. Meanwhile, the country cannot take plenty advantage of its technological development potential in order to stimulate the economic growth. The paper analyzes the disadvantage factors. The conclusion show that in addition to the low level of education and the expatriation of skilled human resources, institutional characteristics may help to understand the ineffectiveness of economic development strategies implemented in Haiti in recent years. Then, we propose institutional innovation as both an analytical framework and a challenge to understand and foster economic development through technology in Haiti

Not only for economic growth, but over all for a sustainable economic development, institutions are fundamental. Furthermore, some specific institutions present the shown properties of the capital. That is why we use the institutional capital approach to analyze the importance of such institutions in economic development theories and practices. The main conclusions of this paper are explained in the promises of this notion for future researches on implemented actions and theories on economic development, mainly in developing countries. Our work in progress shows that institutional capital is determinant for success and efficiency in microfinancial actions. The conclusions of this research are also useful to deepen theories on economic growth, organizations, and overall on Institutional Economics

There are few studies of the social and economic consequences of remittances from migrant workers on poverty and inequality in their home country until recently, especially in Haiti. The known amount of remittances sent to Haiti by the Haitian diaspora has surpassed one billion U.S. dollars in 2004, and since then arouses the interest of analysts. In this paper, we provide some elements that can help understand what are the consequences of these gifts on poverty and inequality that characterize Haitian society. Although expectations about macroeconomic impacts of remittances on beneficiaries' situation are often taked positively, our analysis shows that it is better to be prudent in predicting positive potential impact of remittances on the economy and Haitian society. Our analysis also raises several questions that deserve deeper investigations

Microfinance has made and continues to do a lot of debate. In these debates, an under-documented aspect is the impacts on recipients’ behavior. Through an empirical study on a sample of 500 beneficiaries of microfinance in Haiti, we mobilize the new theoretical framework of institutional capital to analyze this under-explored socio-economic aspect, through a multiple capitals approach of economic development. The results of the study show that the contribution of microfinance organizations includes institutional capital, and this asset influences beneficiaries’ socio-economic behavior, both in terms of consumption and savings, and in the observance of the repayment agreement

The Haitian Diaspora continues to bring an important and growing financial contribution to the Haitian economy. These remittances are countercyclical, without condition, fast and anti-crisis, greater than international aid. However, the participation of the Diaspora in the economic and social development of Haiti does not seem to be possible only through remittances. Our modest proposal is that Haitian Diaspora must adopts a smarter and more efficient approach consisting of, but not necessarily stop supporting the survival of recipient families, 1) finance productive projects and entrepreneurial initiatives; 2) involve and contribute to improve haitian higher education, through a top-down scheme, either through teaching assignments or joint supervision of education and research projects, 3) as much as possible, come back to Haiti to have non erroneous analysis and provide direct participation. Finally, considering that development is related to education and the Haitian population is predominantly young, Diaspora can support, meanwhile optimizing financial resources, both Haitian youth through education and support of entrepreneurship, and Haitian government through institutional strengthening
