A comparison of hydrogen photoproduction by sulfur-deprived Chlamydomonas reinhardtii under different growth conditions
Continuous photoproduction of H-2 by the green alga, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, is observed after incubating the cultures for about a day in the absence of sulfate and in the presence of acetate. Sulfur deprivation causes the partial and reversible inactivation of photosynthetic O-2 evolution in algae, resulting in the light-induced establishment of anaerobic conditions in sealed photobioreactors, expression of two [FeFe]-hydrogenases in the cells, and H-2 photoproduction for several days. We have previously demonstrated that sulfur-deprived algal cultures can produce H-2 gas in the absence of acetate, when appropriate experimental protocols were used (Tsygankov, A.A., Kosourov, S.N., Tolstygina, IN., Ghirardi, M.L., Seibert, M., 2006. Hydrogen production by sulfur-deprived Chlamydomonas reinhardtii under photoautotrophic conditions. Int. J. Hydrogen Energy 31, 1574-1584). We now report the use of an automated photobioreactor system to compare the effects of photoautotrophic, photoheterotrophic and photomixotrophic growth conditions on the kinetic parameters associated with the adaptation of the algal cells to sulfur deprivation and H-2 photoproduction. This was done under the experimental conditions outlined in the above reference, including controlled pH. From this comparison we show that both acetate and CO2 are required for the most rapid inactivation of photosystem II and the highest yield of H-2 gas production. Although, the presence of acetate in the system is not critical for the process, H-2 photoproduction under photoautotrophic conditions can be increased by optimizing the conditions for high starch accumulation. These results suggest ways of engineering algae to improve H-2 production, which in turn may have a positive impact on the economics of applied systems for H,, production. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. Problems of organization and holding of major events on the example of International Young Physicists' Tournament (IYPT) 2016
Ekaterinburg increasingly tends to stand out in the international arena. In this connection, it arranged more and more international events. However, the organization of such events is much more complicated than the events of lower value. The organizers must not only prepare the venue for the event, the necessary equipment, food and cultural program, but also take into account the features of guests from different countries and to anticipate the possibility of different problems and the possible ways of their solution. It is often necessary to solve the problems on the spot, and in this case only the rapid response of the organizers can help. This article describes some problems and emergency situations of the International Young Physicistsc Tournament (2016) in opinion of volunteers of this event.Екатеринбург все больше стремится выделиться на международной арене. В связи с этим в городе устраивается все больше мероприятий международного масштаба. Однако организация таких мероприятий на порядок сложнее, чем события меньшего значения. Организаторы должны не только подготовить место проведения события, необходимое оснащение, питание и культурную программу, но также учесть особенности гостей из разных стран и предвидеть возможность возникновения различных внештатных ситуаций и потенциальные пути их решения. При этом зачастую возникшие проблемы приходится решать на месте, и в данном случаем может помочь только оперативное реагирование организаторов. Evaluation of the state of the body on the traditional and vegetable nutrition
The article deals the influence of traditional and plant nutrition on the human body. The authors of a number of tasks, such as rejection of animal products for a certain period of time and assessment of the state of the organism after the experiment. The aim of this work is to assess the state of the organism on vegetable nutrition and its comparison with the state of the organism on a traditional diet. This article analyzes how the overall condition of the body and the results of analyses. On the basis of the study authors are given objective results on progress, proved the importance of the consumption of animal products for normal activity of organism.В данной статье рассмотрено влияние традиционного и растительного питания на организм человека. Авторами ставится ряд задач, таких как отказ от продуктов животного происхождения на определенный промежуток времени и оценка состояние организма после эксперимента. Целью данной работы является оценка состояния организма на растительном питании и сравнение его с состоянием организма на традиционном питании. В статьеанализируется как общее состояние организма, так и результаты анализов. На основе проведенного исследования авторами даются объективные результаты о проделанной работе, доказывается важность употребления продуктов животного происхождения для нормальной жизнедеятельности организма
A Novel Small Molecule Supports the Survival of Cultured Dopamine Neurons and May Restore the Dopaminergic Innervation of the Brain in the MPTP Mouse Model of Parkinson's Disease
We previously showed that monoterpenoid (1R,2R,6S)-3-methyl-6-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohex-3-ene-1,2-diol 1 alleviates motor manifestations of Parkinson's disease in animal models. In the present study, we designed and synthesized monoepoxides of (1R,2R,6S)-3-methyl-6-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohex-3-ene-1,2-diol 1 and evaluated their biological activity in the MPTP mouse model of Parkinson's disease. We also assessed the ability of these compounds to penetrate the blood-brain barrier (BBB). According to these data, we chose epoxide 4, which potently restored the locomotor activity in MPTP-treated mice and efficiently penetrated the BBB, to further explore its potential mechanism of action. Epoxide 4 was found to robustly promote the survival of cultured dopamine neurons, protect dopamine neurons against toxin-induced degeneration, and trigger the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling cascade in cells of neuronal origin. Meanwhile, neither the survival-promoting effect nor MAPK activation was observed in non-neuronal cells treated with epoxide 4. In the MPTP mouse model of Parkinson's disease, compound 4 increased the density of dopamine neuron fibers in the striatum, which can highlight its potential to stimulate striatal reinnervation and thus halt disease progression. Taken together, these data indicate that epoxide 4 can be a promising compound for further development, not only as a symptomatic but also as a neuroprotective and neurorestorative drug for Parkinson's disease.Peer reviewe
Academic Mobility in Teacher Education
Introduction. Nowadays, it is hard to consider higher education of the 21st century without the global context. The increasing globalisation opens up many opportunities for higher education development, while becoming a challenge to national systems for the training of qualified professionals, including teachers. Thus, the internationalisation of teacher education is currently becoming one of the global trends.The aim of the present research was to investigate the state of involvement of future Russian educators in the processes of academic mobility.Methodology and research methods. The research is based on the theory of internationalisation of education in the conditions of increasing globalisation. In the course of the research, the authors used a mixed toolkit: analysis and generalisation of academic publications, statistical data (the Eurostat working papers and OECD’s reports) and sociological survey. 1714 students of the universities of Siberia took part in the sociological survey.Results and scientific novelty. The analytical reviews of literature revealed the shortage of academic publications on the problems of internationalisation of pedagogical education and the lack of statistics in the Russian Federation on the academic mobility of future teachers. Based on the results of theoretical analysis, the levels of study of academic migration of students of pedagogical specialties were determined – geopolitical, organisational and personally-oriented. A questionnaire has been developed to ascertain the degree of academic mobility of students. This questionnaire includes scanning the portfolio of respondents, finding out their status and motivation to participate in the internationalisation process and academic exchange programmes. The analysis of the results demonstrates the low level of involvement of students of Siberian universities in the academic mobility programmes against the background of their high degree of readiness to study at other universities, including universities abroad. The reasons for non-involvement are identified.Practical significance. The recommendations for changing the critical situation are proposed. It is highlighted that academic mobility should take an important place in both the curriculum of Russian universalities and the individual educational routes. It is necessary to support academic mobility and form a new teacher’s professional identity in the global context.Введение. Полноценное функционирование высшего образования в XXI веке уже невозможно представить вне глобального контекста. Набирающая темпы глобализация, с одной стороны, открывает широкие возможности для развития высшей школы, с другой – является вызовом национальным системам подготовки квалифицированных специалистов, в том числе учителей. Интернационализация педагогического образования сегодня превращается в один из мировых трендов. Целью представленного в статье исследования стало изучение состояния вовлеченности будущих российских педагогических кадров в процессы академической мобильности.Методология и методы. В основу работы была положена теория интернационализации образования в условиях нарастающей глобализации. В ходе изыскания использовался смешанный инструментарий: анализ и обобщение содержания научных источников, статистических данных (документов Евростата, отчетов ОЭСР) и социологический опрос, в котором приняли участие 1714 студентов, обучающихся в университетах Сибири.Результаты и научная новизна. Аналитический обзор литературы позволил констатировать дефицит научных публикаций по проблемам интернационализации педобразования и отсутствие в Российской Федерации статистики об академической мобильности будущих учителей. С опорой на результаты теоретического анализа были определены уровни изучения академической миграции студентов педагогических специальностей – геополитический, организационный и персонально ориентированный. Разработан опросник для выяснения степени активности академической мобильности студентов, предусматривающий сканирование портфолио респондентов, выяснение их готовности и мотивации участия в процессе интернационализации и программах академического обмена. Подведение итогов анкетирования продемонстрировало весьма слабую включенность учащихся сибирских вузов в подобные программы на фоне высоких показателей их заинтересованности и желания обучаться в других вузах, в том числе за рубежом. Обозначены причины вскрытого противоречия. Практическая значимость. Предложены рекомендации по изменению обнаруженной критической ситуации. Подчеркивается, что и в куррикулуме российского университета, и в индивидуальном образовательном маршруте академическая мобильность должна занять подобающее ей важное место. Дистанционное и радиолокационное исследование ледника Левый Ирбисту (Южно-Чуйский хребет, Республика Алтай)
To determine changes of glacier No. 31 (SU5A15106031), happened in the beginning of the XXI century, satellite images, obtained from the Landsat-7, 8, 9 and Sentinel-2 satellites in different years, were analyzed. As a result, data on the glacier changes were obtained for the period from 2000 to 2022. During this time, the length of the main stream of the glacier decreased by 144 m (6.8%), and the total area of the entire glacier – by 0.089 km2 (9.7%). The rate of retreat of the glacier front varied from 2 to 15 m/year, on average – 6.5 m/year, and the glacier area decreased by on average of 0.004 km2/year. In 2022, the glacier consisted of two separate ice streams, with a total area of 0.823 km2 and a maximum length of 1.955 km. Aerial photography was carried out using a DJI Phantom 4 quadcopter. A high-resolution orthophotoplan (±5 cm), a digital terrain model, a three-dimensional model of the surface of the glacier tongue and adjacent territories, with a total area of 0.25 km2, were made. Radar sounding was performed by the Python-3 georadar in two configurations: at frequencies 50 and 100 MHz. Two cross-sections of the glacier were constructed from the radar data: one was taken at a frequency of 100 MHz, and the second at both – 50 MHz and 100 MHz. The analysis of the radiogram of these profiles made possible to reveal that the larger thickness of the glacier in the study area was measured along the left side of the glacier tongue, the maximum recorded thickness was equal to 66 mНа основе данных ДЗЗ за 2000–2022 гг. выявлено изменение малого ледника № 31 (SU5A15106031), расположенного на Южно-Чуйском хребте Центрального Алтая. Transparent carbon coatings of ultra fine diamond
115-118Low-temperature method for depositing ultra fine diamond (UFD) films by
a simple wet chemical route is presented. The UFD is produced from detonation
synthesis of explosive substances. These nano-sized diamond particles under
specific conditions formed stable suspension with analogous properties as sols.
The organic suspensions of UFD had low values of surface tension and could
easily wet different substrates to form films by dipping technique. The surface
of the substrates and the effects of the organic medium stimulated a structural
organization. The action of different forces during wetting caused the
desegregation of particles, which culminated in even distribution on the
substrate. The spectral investigation in UV-VIS-IR region showed that the films
had diamond-like optical properties. It was found that glasses became more
transparent with these UFD coatings on them. Efficiency of cutting tools was
also found to increase significantly with the use of UFD coating on them
