TACROLIMUS INDUCED TREMORS AMONG POST RENAL TRANSPLANT PATIENTS: A CASE SERIES

    Get PDF
Triple immunosuppression in renal transplant has drastically changed the outcome of graft survival. However, concern always remains among thephysicians because of adverse effects produced due to triple immunosuppression. Calcineurin inhibitors are associated with wide range of side effects. Hence, we report a case series of tremors associated with tacrolimus among renal transplant patients in a tertiary care hospital in southern India.Â

VALGANCICLOVIR INDUCED THROMBOCYTOPENIA: A CASE REPORT

Triple immunosuppression is very pivotal in maintaining the graft in case of renal transplantation. But because of severe immunosuppression, always there is chance of severe adverse effects. Hematological toxicity is usually very common but dreaded in case of renal transplant patients. Here, we report a case of valganciclovir-induced drop in platelet counts in a postrenal transplant patient

A CASE REPORT OF NADROPARIN INDUCED HYPERKALEMIA

ABSTRACTNadroparin, a low molecular weight heparin, has prophylactic and therapeutic use in thromboembolic disorder. In a patient with carcinoma ovarystage 3 B, nadroparin was given prophylactically for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) before and after interval cytoreduction surgery. Nadroparin 0.3 mlwas given subcutaneously once daily for 1 day preoperatively and 8 days postoperatively. Rise in serum potassium was observed on the third postoperativedaysuggestiveof hyperkalemia.Intravenousfluids weregiven, and thedrug wasstoppedon the 9 post-operative day and hyperkalemiaresolved after 2 days. Monitoring of serum potassium level is essential when Nadroparin is administered prophylactically for more than 7 days forDVT. As this case illustrates a causal relationship between nadroparin and hyperkalemia, caution must be exercised with nadroparin. Keywords: Nadroparin, Hyperkalemia, Thrombosis.t

Rabeprazole induced Fixed Drug Eruption: A rare case report

    Get PDF
Among cutaneous adverse drug reactions, fixed drug eruption is the most common cutaneous drug reaction among the Indian population. The drugsmost commonly implicated in fixed drug eruption are analgesics and antibiotics. Here, we report a case of fixed drug reaction caused by rabeprazole.  Â

ACECLOFENAC-INDUCED STEVENS-JOHNSON SYNDROME AFTER ONE SINGLE DOSE: A MAIDEN CASE REPORT

    Get PDF
Drugs are known to cause various adverse drug reactions involving major organ systems. Skin-related adverse reactions are very common and range from a simple rash to life-threatening condition like Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Various drugs are known to cause skin reactions which include antiepileptics, analgesics, antibiotics, and proton-pump inhibitors. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs causing life-threatening conditions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis are very rare and only few case reports are published. Hence, we report a case of Aceclofenac-induced Stevens-Johnson syndrome after single time administration in a tertiary care hospital in India

SORAFENIB INDUCED ACNEIFORM ERUPTIONS: A CASE REPORT

    Get PDF
ABSTRACTSorafenib an oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor is used in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma, renal cell carcinoma and thyroid cancer. Sorafenib acts by inhibiting various kinases like tyrosine kinase, RET tyrosine kinase, endothelial growth factor receptor, vascular endothelial growth factor 2 and 3 inhibits angiogenesis and cell proliferation. Acneiform eruptions are known side effect of EGFR inhibitors with incidence ranging between 20 to 90 percent [3], but acneiform eruptions with Sorafenib is seldom seen. Hence, we report a case of Sorafenib induced acneiform eruptions. Keywords: Sorafenib, EGFR, acneiform eruptions, adverse drug reaction

WARFARIN-INDUCED ALOPECIA: A RARE CASE REPORT

    Get PDF
As new drugs are developed everywhere worldwide to combat many diseases, side effects due to drugs are always a matter of concern. Warfarin is indicated for the treatment of venous thromboembolism over many decades and it is always associated with many side effects ranging from bleeding complications, gastrointestinal disturbances to skin necrosis. Hair fall with oral anticoagulants had always been a matter of debate and concern and so far, only very few case reports have been published on warfarin-induced hair loss. Hence, we report a case of warfarin-induced alopecia in a 39-year-old male in a tertiary care hospital in Southern India

AUGMENTIN INDUCED THROMBOCYTOSIS: A MAIDEN CASE SERIES

    Get PDF
When an infected patient suffers from thrombocytosis, it is very difficult to identify beta-lactam antibiotic induced cases of the disease and separate those from the possibility that thrombocytosis is an acute-phase reaction in the infected patient. We present 3 cases who were treated with Augmentin for various indications and developed thrombocytosis during the treatment course. The Naranjo probability scale indicates Augmentin as the possible cause of the thrombocytosis in all our patients.  Â

ORPHAN DRUGS: THE CURRENT GLOBAL AND INDIAN SCENARIO

ABSTRACTIt was not until a few decades ago that orphan drugs, still enjoyed†the status of pharmaceutical touch-me-not entities. However, the past two decadeshave witnessed a radical shift in the approach of global pharmaceutical industry toward orphan drugs. This has stemmed from an apparent innovationcrisis in the domain of common diseases, progressively increasing stringency in the regulations, and the decline of the blockbuster business model.Further, the success stories of a few orphan drugs, for instance, eculizumab has gone a long way in breaking the myth of non-profitability associatedwith orphan drug development endeavor. This combined with the high degree of incentivization attached with orphan drug development makes it avery lucrative avenue for further investment by the pharmaceutical industry. Sadly, the Indian scenario with respect to orphan drugs is a throwbackto the dark ages.†The progress seen across the developed nations, for instance, the United States of America has not permeated into the Indianmarket. India, with its huge population base, stands to provide a hugely lucrative market for orphan drug development. However, this point seemsto have escaped the notice of the Indian authorities and the pharmaceutical sector in India. Thus, with the various patient advocacy groups and nongovernmentorganizationschampioning the cause of orphan diseased patientsin India, the time is ripe forthe concerned authoritiesand the pharmasectorin India totakecognizance of this gapinglacuna in the health-careservices and undertakemeasurestoaddressthis situation. Keywords: Pharmaceutical touch-me-not, Orphan, Indian scenario.Â

    RADIATION THERAPY-INDUCED SUBACUTE INTESTINAL OBSTRUCTION

    Get PDF
Radiation therapy is an important treatment modality for malignancies of the cervix, uterus, prostate, bladder, testes, and rectum. The incidence of clinically significant radiation-related complications is about 5-20%. Radiation insult to gastrointestinal tract includes damage to the small bowel, colon, and rectum. Predisposing risk factors such as previous surgery, hypertension, diabetes, smoking, hyperbaric oxygen increases the severity of damage as well as the use of other chemotherapeutic agents increases the sensitivity to radiation. Radiation-induced injury can be acute or chronic depending on the mitotic activity of intestinal tissue. Radiation enteritis is usually managed conservatively at the start, but surgery is indicated when complications arise. Hereby, we report a case of subacute intestinal obstruction after 3 weeks of radiotherapy
