Selection method by fuzzy set theory and preference matrix

Get PDF
In fuzzy decision making problems, fuzzy ranking is one of the most preferred aeras. The aim of this paper to develop a new ranking method which is reliable and doesnot need tremendous arithmetic calculations. Also it can be used for all type of fuzzy numbers which are represented as crisp form or in linguistic form. Fuzzy multi criteria decision making commonly employs methods such as ordering method,Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process [FAHP], Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution [FTOPSIS]and hybrid method. The FAHP commonly uses triangular fuzzy numbers and trapezoidal fuzzy numbers while the FTOPSIS method identifies the best alternative as the one that is nearest to the positive ideal solution and farthest to the negative ideal solution. Although both these methods have been widely used, they have their drawbacks. The accuracy of these methods decreases as the number of alternative increases i.e. the more complex the problem, less the accuracy and all the methods have many computations. In order to overcome this problem, we propose a method which is a combination of method of Blin and Whinston(1973) and method of Shimura(1973). This way the advantages of both the methods may be utilized to arrive at a decision that involves vague data. In this paper, we use the concept of preference matrix to find the membership grades and calculate the ranking. Keywords: Fuzzy set, preference matrix, multi person decision making, multi criteria decision making(MCDM), relativity function matrix

Value Dimensions Influence Perceptions Towards Immigrants

Get PDF
Abstract Researchers have turned to human values as predictors for people’s attitudes toward immigrants. Value- based studies may be effective in producing attitudinal and behavioral changes toward immigrants, as people can be receptive to universal values. The current study compared differences between human values (e.g., benevolence, universalism, power, and achievement) on people’s perceptions toward immigrants. A total sample of 250 participants was collected for the current study. Each participant was randomly assigned to one group (control group, universalism value prime, benevolence value prime, power value prime, or achievement value prime). All participants were given a demographics questionnaire, followed by a task priming value saliency, a manipulation check, and lastly a questionnaire which assessed their perceptions towards immigrants. One-way ANOVAs among the value groups (achievement, benevolence, power, and universalism), along with planned contrasts, revealed no statistically significant differences between any of the value groups, across the composite scale and subscales (realistic and symbolic threat). Post Hoc LSD tests revealed that those who identified as White were much more likely, on average, to perceive immigrants as threats compared to Blacks and Hispanics, suggesting differences in perception from an ethnic background

Background: Pain after emergency and elective caesarean section may adversely affect patient’s recovery and breastfeeding initiation. The aim of present study was to compare the analgesic efficacy of diclofenac suppository-intravenous acetaminophen (APAP) combination, tramadol suppository-intravenous APAP combination and intravenous APAP alone for postoperative pain relief after caesarean section. Methods: We designed a randomized double-blind control study. Three hundred parturient scheduled for caesarean section were randomized to receive diclofenac rectal suppository (100 mg), tramadol rectal suppository (100 mg) or glycerin rectal suppository in Group A, B and C respectively (100 parturient in each group). All the women routinely received 1000 mg acetaminophen intravenously. Assessment of pain was done using a visual analogue scale (VAS) at 0, 1, 6, 12, 18 and 24 hours. injection Pentazocine 0.3 mg/kg IV was given as rescue analgesia when VAS score > 30.Results: The mean VAS score was significantly higher in Group C as compared to Group A and Group B (p value < 0.001). This suggests better efficacy of multimodal treatment as compared to monotherapy. Group A as compared to Group B showed better efficacy in term of VAS score at 12 and 18 hours (p = 0.05, p = 0.02 respectively). Conclusions: We found that when controlling for socio-demographic characteristics, combination of either diclofenac or tramadol suppository with acetaminophen has significantly better results when compared with monotherapy of acetaminophen alone in post-operative analgesia after caesarean section. However, the combination of diclofenac suppository has proved to be superior in comparison to tramadol suppository

Implementation of Outcome Based Education for the course Digital Image Processing

Get PDF
Achieving Outcome Based Education (OBE) in engineering education is a challenging task for the instructor. The cycle starts from the process of curriculum design for the course ‘Digital Image Processing’ by incorporating the inputs from different stake holders. Program Outcomes (POs) and Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs) are attained through balanced course design and achieving the Course Outcomes by various evaluation methods. The next challenge is to improve the traditional teaching learning methods by implementation of innovative techniques for effective delivery of the course and to increase the engagement of the students. Students should be able to apply, analyze and evaluate a given problem statement and build/simulate an algorithm/system in the course. Continuous assessment is followed in the laboratory sessions and Open-ended assignments are given to the students to stimulate divergent thinking abilities about a given problem. Feedback of theory and laboratory sessions is taken from the students and its analysis is carried out based on assignments, examinations and mini projects

Simultaneous estimation of three component tablets containing Doxylamine succinate (DOX), Pyridoxine hydrochloride (PYR) and Folic acid (FA) was carried out by UV spectrophotometric assisted chemometric methods. Four chemometric methods i.e. classical least square (CLS), inverse least square (ILS), principal component regression (PCR) and partial least squares (PLS) were applied to simultaneous assay of DOX, PYR and FA in tablets without any chemical separation and any graphical treatment of the overlapping spectra of three drugs. The chemometric calculations were performed by using the Chemometrics Toolbox 3.02 software (Kramer, 1995) along with MATLAB 6. The results of four chemometric methods were statistically compared with each other. These chemometric calibrations were successfully applied to the marketed tablets without any separation procedure. Mean recoveries (percent) and relative standard deviation of ILS, CLS, PCR, PLS methods were found to be 98.77/1.76, 100.59/1.53, 97.91/1.50, 97.53/1.73 for DOX; 99.79/1.22, 100.22/0.58, 100.31/1.68 and 99.33/1.10 for PYR; 99.79/1.37, 100.57/1.56 and 98.38/0.96 for FA respectively. All of the four chemometric methods in this study can be satisfactorily used for the quantitative analysis of multi-component dosage form

The wellbeing and health of people are influenced by satisfaction about their job. The essence of job satisfaction is explained as mental gratification derived from one’s job. To know how the job satisfaction of an individual affects the other domains of an individual’s life like, psychological well-being and perceived stress in making an individual over-all healthy being. The study aims to investigate the Job satisfaction levels on psychological well-being and Perceived stress among government and private employees. Convenient sampling method was used in this study. In this study the sample consisted of 100 employees; 48 employees from the government sector and 52 employees from the private sector of the Delhi/ NCR region. For this study the behaviour tools used were job satisfaction scale, psychological well-being, and Perceived stress scale were taken for the study. These tools are used to measure government and private employee psycho social health issues. SPSS-18 software was used for data management. The results revealed significant negative correlation between Job satisfaction and Purpose in Life (r= -0.21) at p<0.05 level of significance. Perceived stress had a negative correlation between Autonomy (r= -.23) and Positive relation with others (r= -0.20) at p<0.05 level of significance. There was a significant difference between Government and Private sectors on Positive relations with others (p=0.003) at p<0.05 and Perceived stress (p=0.000) at p<0.05

The aim of this project is to eliminate the paper-based attendance with auto attendance by using student ID card. Currently, there is a card based attendance used in companies and web based attendance is used in the universities. In the paper-based attendance the paper is often lost, while in the web based attendance when all the students try to log in at the same time, the server gets down. We came up with the solution of having a Wi-Fi based attendance where there is no need of paper and login to the server. It can be done with the help of proximity card reader. When a student holds his card in front of the reader, it will read the card and send it to the database with the help of Wi-Fi module. The database will process data based on the time and date of receiving

Heating Oil Level Detection and Assistance Using Amazon Alexa

Get PDF
This work is used to bridge the gap between consumer and oil supplier by building a smart monitoring system with the help of ESP8266 (Wi-Fi module) and Alexa (Intelligent AI based Virtual Assistant). In the existing system, many oil tanks are inaccessible or buried under the ground. We came up with the solution of having a smart monitoring system where there is no longer need to read the oil level in the heating oil tank manually. It can be done with the help of an ultrasonic sensor. When the consumer requests to check the oil level, ESP8266 retrieves the oil level from the ultrasonic sensor and sends it to Alexa
