Study of outcomes of suprapatellar approach for tibia intramedullary nailing in patients coming to rural medical college, Loni
Background: Tibia shaft fractures are most common lower limb long bone fractures. In approximately 80% of patients, tibia fracture occurs in diaphysis region. The procedure of intramedullary interlocking nailing is done by positioning the injured extremity at minimum of 90 degree of flexion in the knee joint to achieve optimal exposure of correct entry point. The tension of quadriceps tendon causes a typical apex anterior angulation of proximal fragment. Supra patellar nailing is done with knee in semi extended position, reducing the anterior angulation. The aim of this study is to study outcomes of supra patellar access of intramedullary nailing for tibia fractures.Methods: It is a descriptive longitudinal study which was carried out from October 2019 to September 2021 in Dr. Balasaheb Vikhe Patil rural medical college, Loni, Ahmednagar. In this study 60 case of closed shaft tibia fractures were treated by supra-patellar nailing technique.Results: In our study we selected, 60 patients with tibia fracture admitting in our institute. All patients underwent operative procedure in the form of intramedullary interlocking tibia nail which was done with suprapatellar approach. Out of all the 60 patients treated with suprapatellar approach, excellent results with good range of movements with excellent lower extremity functional scale score.Conclusions: Supra-patellar approach was found to provide excellent outcome for proximal 1/3rd of tibia fracture
Development of automatic and manual flight director landing systems for the XV-15 tilt rotor aircraft in helicopter mode
The objective of this effort is to determine IFR approach path and touchdown dispersions for manual and automatic XV-15 tilt rotor landings, and to develop missed approach criteria. Only helicopter mode XV-15 operation is considered. The analysis and design sections develop the automatic and flight director guidance equations for decelerating curved and straight-in approaches into a typical VTOL landing site equipped with an MLS navigation aid. These system designs satisfy all known pilot-centered, guidance and control requirements for this flying task. Performance data, obtained from nonstationary covariance propagation dispersion analysis for the system, are used to develop the approach monitoring criteria. The autoland and flight director guidance equations are programmed for the VSTOLAND 1819B digital computer. The system design dispersion data developed through analysis and the 1819B digital computer program are verified and refined using the fixed-base, man-in-the-loop XV-15 VSTOLAND simulation
Storage of fruits and vegetables in refrigerator increases their phenolic acids but decreases the total phenolics, anthocyanins and Vitamin C with subsequent loss of their antioxidant capacity
It is of paramount importance for consumers, scientists and industrialists to understand how low-temperature storage of food items affects their bioactive compounds and properties. This study evaluated the effects of cold storage on total phenolics (TP), phenolic acids profile (PA), total anthocyanins (TA), total ascorbic acid (Vit. C) and antioxidant activity (AA) of 19 fruits and vegetables, collected from local Indian markets and stored in refrigerator (4 °C) during 15 days. Content of TP was highest in dill and amaranth and decreased (up to 29.67%) with storage. Leafy vegetables (amaranth, dill, onion, fenugreek and spinach) contained higher amounts of the 12 PA revealed by UPLC-UV; ellagic, gallic, sinapic and vanillic acids levels were the highest; chlorogenic acid (ρ = 0.423), syringic acid (ρ = 0.403) and sinapic acid (ρ = 0.452) mostly correlated with TP; and the PA increased during storage. Highest contents of Vit C estimated by AOAC, DCPIP and DNP methods were found in amaranth, dill and pomegranate, and decreased with storage. Pomegranate showed highest TA levels and low-temperature storage did not significantly increase TA, which was the largest contributor of TP in fruits and vegetables (ρ = 0.661). Storage induced a drastic decrease of AA, which mostly correlated with TP (ρ = 0.808, 0.690 and 0.458 for DPPH, ABTS and FRAP assays, respectively). Spearman’s correlation confirmed by principal component analysis demonstrated that dill, pomegranate and amaranth had the highest overall antioxidant capacity, whereas orange juice and carrot showed the lowest. The results provide support for a key-role of TP, followed by Vit. C and TA in antioxidant capacity of fruits and vegetables, which could be interesting dietary sources of natural antioxidants for prevention of diseases caused by oxidative stress
A study of an operative outcome of a basitrochanteric fractures of the hip treated by dynamic hip screw and enders nail with percutaneous canulated cancellous screw
Background: Basicervical or cervicotrochanteric fracture of the femur is considered stable variety of fracture pattern. Most common incidence is seen in elderly patient and in young patient with probably high energy trauma. Appropriate Osteosynthesis confers excellent outcome when reduction is optimally achieved.Methods: 86 basitrochanteric fractures had been treated with enders nail or dynamic hip screw (DHS) at our institute by a single surgeon. Implant selection was done purely based on plain radiograph, associated co-morbidities and fracture geometry. Patients had been followed up at 1 month, 3 month and 6 month.Results: In our study there were 86 patients out of which 63 patients (73.25%) were treated with enders nail and 23 patients (26.74%) were treated with DHS. Mean age of patients was 57 years. We noted minimum follow up of 8 months while maximum follow up of 4.5 years where as mean follow up duration is 18 months. We almost noted excellent to fair results in both groups.Conclusions: Most of the implants in basitrochanteric fractures worked on control collapse principle. Both DHS and enders nail with percutaneous cc screw follow this principle and when used with a proper technique, optimal reduction usually fetch the favourable outcomes with minimalistic approach
Biochemical and Pathomorphological Study of Potassium Dichromate-induced Nephrotoxicity in Wistar Rat
An experiment was conducted to study biochemical and pathomorphological alterations induced by potassium dichromate toxicity. Forty colony bred Albino Wistar strain rats of both sexes, divided uniformly into four equal groups Group A, Group B, Group C, and Group D. Each Group contains five male and five female. Group A rats received only deionised water and served as control. Group B (low dose), Group C (mid dose) and Group D (high dose) rats were given potassium dichromate orally by gavage for 28 days at the rate of 0.625 mg/kg body weight (b.wt.), 1.25 mg/kg b.wt. and 2.5 mg/kg b.wt. respectively. A dose dependant significant rise in plasma alanine aminotransferase (ALT), plasma aspartate aminotransferase (AST), plasma alkaline phosphatase (ALP), creatinine and blood urea nitrogen was observed in treatment group, whereas, a significant decrease in total protein and albumin was observed in treatment group. Histopathological sections of kidney, liver, lung and testes revealed varying degrees of congestion, haemorrhage, degeneration and necrosis in rats of different treatment groups. Deriving research-quality phenotypes from national electronic health records to advance precision medicine: a UK Biobank case-study
High-throughput genotyping and increased
availability of electronic health records (EHR) are giving
scientists the unprecedented opportunity to exploit routinely
generated clinical data to advance precision medicine. The
extent to which national structured EHR in the United Kingdom
can be utilized in genome-wide association studies (GWAS) has
not been systematically examined. In this study, we evaluate the
performance of an EHR-derived acute myocardial infarction
phenotype (AMI) for performing GWAS in the UK Biobank
HST/NICMOS Observations of Fast Infrared Flickering in the Microquasar GRS 1915+105
We report infrared observations of the microquasar GRS 1915+105 using the
NICMOS instrument of the Hubble Space Telescope during 9 visits in April-June
2003. During epochs of high X-ray/radio activity near the beginning and end of
this period, we find that the \um infrared flux is generally low ( mJy) and relatively steady. However, during the X-ray/radio ``plateau''
state between these epochs, we find that the infrared flux is significantly
higher ( mJy), and strongly variable. In particular, we find events
with amplitudes % occurring on timescales of s
(e-folding timescales of s). These flickering timescales are several
times faster than any previously-observed infrared variability in GRS 1915+105
and the IR variations exceed corresponding X-ray variations at the same () timescale. These results suggest an entirely new type of infrared
variability from this object. Based on the properties of this flickering, we
conclude that it arises in the plateau-state jet outflow itself, at a distance
AU from the accretion disk. We discuss the implications of this work and
the potential of further flickering observations for understanding jet

A closed expression for the UV-divergent parts of one-loop tensor integrals in dimensional regularization
Starting from the general definition of a one-loop tensor N-point function,
we use its Feynman parametrization to calculate the UV-divergent part of an
arbitrary tensor coefficient in the framework of dimensional regularization. In
contrast to existing recursion schemes, we are able to present a general
analytic result in closed form that enables direct determination of the
UV-divergent part of any one-loop tensor N-point coefficient independent from
UV-divergent parts of other one-loop tensor N-point coefficients. Simplified
formulas and explicit expressions are presented for A-, B-, C-, D-, E-, and

Non cell autonomous upregulation of CDKN2 transcription linked to progression of chronic hepatitis C disease
Chronic hepatitis C virus infection (C-HC) is associated with higher mortality arising from hepatic and extrahepatic disease. This may be due to accelerated biological aging; however, studies in C-HC have thus far been based solely on telomere length as a biomarker of aging (BoA). In this study, we have evaluated CDKN2 locus transcripts as alternative BoAs in C-HC. Our results suggest that C-HC induces non-cell-autonomous senescence and accelerates biological aging. The CDKN2 locus may provide a link between C-HC and increased susceptibility to age-associated diseases and provides novel biomarkers for assessing its impact on aging processes in man
