    The strangeness contribution to the vector and axial form factors of the nucleon is presented for momentum transfers in the range 0.45<Q2<1.00.45<Q^2<1.0 GeV2^2. The results are obtained via a combined analysis of forward-scattering parity-violating elastic e⃗p\vec{e}p asymmetry data from the G0G^0 and HAPPEx experiments at Jefferson Lab, and elastic νp\nu p and νˉp\bar{\nu} p scattering data from Experiment 734 at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The parity-violating asymmetries measured in elastic e⃗p\vec{e}p scattering at forward angles establish a relationship between the strange vector form factors GEsG_E^s and GMsG_M^s, with little sensitivity to the strange axial form factor GAsG_A^s. On the other hand, elastic neutrino scattering at low Q2Q^2 is dominated by the axial form factor, with still some significant sensitivity to the vector form factors as well.     Background: In India, the developing economy and growing population simultaneously made a strong impact on increase in motor vehicle population. This increase in motorization has some adverse effects such as increase in road accidents with economic and functional loss. Head injury is the most common cause of mortality in road traffic accidents. The aim of this study was to know the incidence, pattern, mechanism, mode of head injury along with its distribution in relation to site of vault fracture and intracranial hemorrhage.Methods: Total 391 post-mortem cases of head injury were enrolled during study period. The information regarding age, sex, residence, marital status, date and time of time of accident and of death was gathered from police inquest report, relatives, dead body challan and clinical details from hospital records. During autopsy, detailed examination was carried out and data regarding both external and internal injuries were carefully recorded and analyzed.Results: The peak incidence of head injury was observed in the age group of 21-30 years. Most of deceased were from early age group and the male deceased were more than females. Majority victims of head injury were from road Traffic Accidents followed by fall from height, railway accidents and assault. Fissured fracture of vault was found in almost half cases. Subdural and subarachnoid hemorrhage were the most common one we encountered.Conclusions: Head injury due to RTA is well known public health problem causing death and disability. It is required from concerned government authority to take appropriate and immediate measures for reducing the incidence of head injury

    Differential cross section for neutron-proton bremsstrahlung

    The neutron-proton bremsstrahlung process (np→npγ)(np \to np\gamma) is known to be sensitive to meson exchange currents in the nucleon-nucleon interaction. The triply differential cross section for this reaction has been measured for the first time at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center, using an intense, pulsed beam of up to 700 MeV neutrons to bombard a liquid hydrogen target. Scattered neutrons were observed at six angles between 12∘^\circ and 32∘^\circ, and the recoil protons were observed in coincidence at 12∘^\circ, 20∘^\circ, and 28∘^\circ on the opposite side of the beam. Measurement of the neutron and proton energies at known angles allows full kinematic reconstruction of each event. The data are compared with predictions of two theoretical calculations, based on relativistic soft-photon and non-relativistic potential models.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

    Socio-demographic factors in mechanical asphyxial deaths in Thane region, Maharashtra, India

    Background: This study was done to analyze the various socio-demographic variables of the subjects who died of Mechanical Asphyxia and had undergone post mortem examination, over the last 10 years, at the FMT Department of Rajiv Gandhi Medical College and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, Thane, Maharashtra, India.Methods: After IEC approval, a descriptive, complete enumeration study of recorded data from PM register from 1st January 2006 to 31st December 2015 (n=5128) was carried. Of these, deaths due to mechanical asphyxial causes were segregated and analyzed.Results: Of the total 654 autopsies conducted from mechanical asphyxial deaths in the last 10 years, majority (248, 37.9%) were in age group 21 30 years. Of the different types of mechanical asphyxial deaths, maximum were cases of hanging (409, 62.5%), followed by drowning (204, 31.2%), Suffocation (32, 4.9%) and strangulation (9, 1.4%).Conclusions: Drowning and hanging were common in males whereas strangulation was common in females. A high proportion of subjects who died due to drowning were less than 10 years old (21.6%). We did not find any role of religion as a factor in asphyxial death.

    Exploring the concept of pain of Australian children with and without pain: Qualitative study

Objective A person's concept of pain can be defined as how they understand what pain actually is, what function it serves and what biological processes are thought to underpin it. This study aimed to explore the concept of pain in children with and without persistent pain. Design In-depth, face-to-face interviews with drawing tasks were conducted with 16 children (aged 8-12 years) in New South Wales, Australia. Thematic analysis was used to analyse and synthesise the data. Setting Children with persistent pain were identified from a pain clinic waiting list in Australia, and children without pain were identified through advertising flyers and email bulletins at a university and hospital. Participants Eight children had persistent pain and eight children were pain free. Results Four themes emerged from the data: â € my pain-related knowledge', â € pain in the world around me', â € pain in me' and â € communicating my concept of pain'. A conceptual framework of the potential interactions between the themes resulting from the analysis is proposed. The concept of pain of Australian children aged 8-12 years varied depending on their knowledge, experiences and literacy levels. For example, when undertaking a drawing task, children with persistent pain tended to draw emotional elements to describe pain, whereas children who were pain free did not. Conclusions Gaining an in-depth understanding of a child's previous pain-related experiences and knowledge is important to facilitate clear and meaningful pain science education. The use of age-appropriate language, in combination with appropriate assessment and education tasks such as drawing and discussing vignettes, allowed children to communicate their individual concept of pain

    A Child's Concept of Pain: An International Survey of Pediatric Pain Experts.

    A child's 'concept of pain' refers to how they understand what pain actually is, what function pain serves, and what biological processes are thought to underpin it. We aimed to determine pediatric pain experts' opinions of: (1) the importance and usefulness of assessing a child's concept of pain in clinical and/or research settings; (2) the usefulness of the content of items within currently published adult-targeted resources for assessing a child's concept of pain; and (3) important domains of a child's concept of pain to assess. Forty-nine pediatric pain experts (response rate = 75.4%) completed an online survey. Descriptive statistics and frequency of responses were analyzed. Experts from all included disciplines reported that assessing a child's concept of pain is important and useful both clinically and in a research setting (>80% reported very or extremely useful for each item). Experts considered that the content of 13 items from currently published adult-targeted resources was useful, but the wording was too complex for children aged 8-12 years. Experts considered that all seven of the proposed domains of a child's concept of pain was important to assess. The findings can be used to inform the development of an assessment tool for a child's concept of pain

    Strange form factors of the nucleon in a two-component model

    The strange form factors of the nucleon are studied in a two-component model consisting of a three-quark intrinsic structure surrounded by a meson cloud. A comparison with the available experimental world data from the SAMPLE, PVA4, HAPPEX and G0 collaborations shows a good overall agreement.
